Great Sub for the price
by gjman ,Nov 17 '04
Pros: Good distinct non-booming base. Great Value. Cons: The movie/music button that doesn't seem to do much.
Like most things in life you get what you pay for. But in the $150 range this is the most potent 8" sub you can find. It has phase settings, cross over settings and standby settings.
The crossover run from 50-150 hz and so based on your front speaker's lowest freq you can pretty much set up your HT to have all Low Freq Effects (LFE) going to the sub. You do need to set all other speakers to 'small' on your A/V receiver for you to optimize LFE signals.
Also puhleeeeez invest in a good/decent dedicated sub-woofer cable if you want to really see the standby setting work. You don't need to invest in some super-duper monster sub-woofer cables, I bought $15 Philips/Magnovox cable and they work just fine.
Great LFE sub for a small/medium size room. Set the volume knob to about 2-3 'o' clock position to get a pretty decent response.

A lot of bang for the buck!
by darkness750 ,Feb 21 '05
Pros: VERY INEXPENSIVE. Distortion free. Automatic shutoff. Cons: NOTHING.
I purchased this subwoofer last week and I don't know how I lived without it! The sound from my dvd's and cd's have been dramatically improved. I have it hooked up to my Kenwood VR-806 receiver(see review) and my basement has never sounded better. The bass is clear and distortion free. For a $100.00 subwoofer you simply can't beat it.

Can't beat it for the price
by kkdm ,Aug 25 '05
Pros: *Inexpensive
*Small
*Good sound for the price Cons: *I can't complain about anything for the price I paid
I was searching for the least expensive sub I could find that promised decent sound. I didn't want to rattle the windows since I usually use the home theater system after the kiddies are in bed, so I didn't need much. I was getting more bass from my monster center channel (EC-35) that I was from my front speakers, so I just wanted to add a little bit to the low end. So I purchased the SW215 from Best Buy, figuring I'd just return it if I didn't like the sound.
Well, I still have it. So far, the SW215 had been exactly what I was looking for. It's certainly not the most impressive sub I've heard - but it does the job. I can definitely tell a difference when I turn it on - even in my relatively large family room. It's also nice and small, so it doesn't stand out and wreck the decor (my wife is pleased by this).
All in all, it's probably just a so-so subwoofer, but c'mon - it's only got an 8" driver to work with. And it was $100. So I'm thrilled.

by serge9193 ,Oct 27 '04
Pros: great price, powerful bass, many adjusting features. Cons: dont have any negative points on this YAMAHA subwoofer.
excellent performance! this sub delivers a very solid bass even at high volumes, dont let it's small size full you with 120w of output power at about $100.00 is a great investment for your home theatre system.
