Pros: Includes every accessory needed, rechargeable batteries, eye catching and sturdy design, small size Cons: Won't play DRM licensed WMA files, mediocre earbuds
The iRiver SlimX IMP-550 CD Player/FM tuner is iRivers top of the line portable cd player, and arguably, is the top portable cd player on the market today. Though iRiver might not have the name recognition of brands like Sony, Apple or ...
Pros: Warm rich dynamic SOUND, magnesium casing, ultra-slim, upgradable, multiple MENU options Cons: Bugs in the upgrades (usually fixed in the next upgrades)
My mission is accomplished, I finally FOUND the ultimate cd/mp3/wma player : iRiver iMP-550 SlimX is THE ONE! I was restlessly searching for a cd/mp3 player that would suit my needs sound-wise as well as feature-wise. I'm quite ...
Pros: Great sound, great battery life, slim and light design, and more pros in review. Cons: Nothing you wouldn't get over.
I wrote an express iRiver iMP-550 review before and now I want to update it to a full review. Well it has been about 4-5 months with the iMP-550. Things seem to get better with every firmware upgrade that iRiver puts out. Ogg Vorbis is now supported ...
Pros: Excellent design, wonderful sound quality, functional remote, good price considering the features Cons: Price may be high for some consumers, may take some technology skills at first
This product I purchased through an online vendor a few weeks ago, and I have loved it! I was searching the market for a top-of-the-line CD player, and I decided that having the MP3 CD feature would be very useful. I stumbled upon this unit after ...
Pros: Excellent sound quality, more features than you can count on your fingers and toes. Cons: Too many wires. User-unfriendly remote control menus and maneuvering.
In my recent search for a CD player with MP3 capability, all reviews tended to lean toward the iRiver IMP550 (SlimX). Unfortunately, I could not find it in stock anywhere to "touch and feel" before buying it, so I had no choice but to buy online and ...
Pros: small, light, metal, upgradeable, grate bass, and soo much more Cons: slow when reading the cd, battery life sucks, no controls on the player
This CD player is the best CD player any one could ever buy. Everyone buys mp3 players these days, i don't know why, sure, an i-pod can hold lots of music and you dont have to lug around all cds. but the problem is, what happens when you find some ...
Pros: Really tricked out, nice and thin. Good accessories. Cons: Customer service sucks beyond belief.
Pros: It's loaded, that's for sure. And, when it's working, it's great. However, I received a faulty remote and the customer service couldn't be worse. I am going to have to return the whole thing because they were so unhelpful. Cons: To elaborate ...
Pros: Two words - Awsome quality! Compact design! Accessories galore- all included. Slick styling. Cons: Too many wires. One customer service agent needs people skills badly.

Pros: Unbelievable Sound! Skip protection is fantastic, and so is the features. Cons: Long wires, but if used correctly, it can be to your advantage.
The best portable Codec player I ever used! (I upgraded the earphones from the mx-300 to mx-400.) Durability is very good. In the last year and a half I owned the player, it traveled across the world and even survived a motorcycle accident in Africa! I ...

Pros: Handy remote and back up battery Cons: Seems delicate and everyone drops a cd player at least once.
I enjoyed this Cd player until it broke. I only had it about 3 months and honestly only dropped it about 4 times and they weren't horrible drops. It always had the case on when it fell also, but it slowly started to mess up. The player would start skipping while I was walking and then finally about last week it stopped reading any disks, but the radio works. I am going to send it to the manufacturer to see what they say but BE VERY CAREFUL WITH IT. If you're very active get a sports cd player that can take a couple bumps.
Too Tempermental With MP3 CD's by lorywiviott ,Jun 25 '04
Pros: Great Aesthetics, Terrific Remote, Firmware Upgradeable Cons: Frequent "No Disc" Errors, Skips & Stops! Avoid This Player For Use With MP3 CDR's!
I was thrilled with the terrific aesthetics and slick remote of the Iriver 550, but unfortunately my 1st unit would give "no disk errors" much of the time with disks my prior RioVolt read fine. and when it did read the discs was very prone to skips and unexpected stops. I upgraded firmware and even got a 2nd unit from IRiver ... NO BETTER.
Until they increase the compatability and reliability with CDR's burned with MP3's I would forego this player, despite the great feature set. These do me no good if it won't play my lovingly created disks!
Pros: Good Sound. Looks cool Cons: Very Flimsy, Controller a pain to use, Expensive, Does not play very loud
The thing only lasted 2 months before it broke with light use. The cover for the battery broke when I tried to put them in. Then dropped it lightly one day and the cover fell clean off! What up with that??? The anti skip is laughable if you are running unless you burn at a bit rate of 128 or less.
