  • All Negro 332nd Fighter Group

    Mar 27 '12
    Pros: Exciting dogfights.
Cons: We're never told whether the new P-51s have the Merlin engines in them.

Summary: Out of the frying pan, into the fire.  Italy, 1944. The 332nd fighter group flying "P-40s from Uncle Sam's junkyard" are doing "strafing runs and coastal patrols" ("Congratulations, kids, you killed yourself a truck.") ... read more

  • "Red Tails" - Soars in the Air, Sinks on the Ground

    Jan 25 '12
Pros: Fantastic visuals and aerial action sequences.
Cons: Cliched, derivative war story and characters. No real resolution. Predictable as could be.

Summary: When one thinks of or hears the name 'George Lucas', instantly thoughts of something 'Star Wars' or 'Indiana Jones'-related may pop into their head. And that's for very good reason: that's how Lucas has made his wealth and his name in the film ... read more

    Cons: Comic-book script; missed opportunities

Summary: The good news: George Lucas did not direct or write this "all-black action movie" about the Tuskegee Airmen. The bad news: You might not notice the difference. Going in, I knew what to expect: a shoot-em-up war movie with the tone of propaganda films of ... read more

  • "RED TAILS": EXCITING, FLAWED VIEW OF WWII HEROES

    Jan 21 '12
Pros: Great air fight scenes, good acting
Cons: "Side" stories were a little weak to me

Summary: I wanted to see this film when I first heard about it.  I saw George Lucas (the producer of the movie) on Jon Stewart's show and he pointed out that he has wanted to make this film since 1988 but nobody thought an "all-black" cast could be ... read more
