Panera, quality food fast
by candyloverz ,Nov 06 '04
Pros: Panera is conveniently located and It has great food that I love.
Cons: Sometimes the service can be slow and I have had my order mixed up before.
I was introduced to Panera by my friend who absolutely loves the place. Now we stop into Panara often to pick up the cinnamon crunch bagels, I believe that these are the best bagels I have ever had and I buy many at a time and take them to school. I also love to order the "U pick 2" deal and I order the grilled chicken caesar salad with chicken noodle soup. I really enjoy the bread you get with each meal. Panera has a great selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches along with bagels and many other treats. I can always rely on getting a good meal at Panera bread. Panera is conveniently located close to were I live and it is no trouble stopping in to get a good meal, that I always enjoy.

mixed feelings about this chain
by raejgar ,Jun 08 '06
Pros: bread samples, variety of sandwiches, cleanliness of restaurant
Cons: extremely overpriced kid's meals, declining quality
I think they were better when they were new. Although we are pretty loyal customers, I have to say the quality has been dropping of late. The bread is always pretty good, but
sandwiches are getting skimpier on the meat. The sandwiches seem to be mostly bread. The kid's meals, which are only $1
less than a regular sandwich are ridiculously tiny. Probably
not enough food for anyone over 5. Wouldn't be too bad and they'd be making a profit on these at $2.50, at $4.50 they are definitely a scam. My daughter also claims the pickles
could be a lot better.

Panera's is classy
by claire9715 ,Feb 20 '07
Pros: "Pick Two" is best deal.Turkey Bravo Sandwich, Greek Salad, Breakfast Souffles, Coffees, & Bagels.
Cons: Constantly run out of breakfast souffles Sunday mornings. Flatbread pizzas are very "skimpy".
My wife and I love Panera's...quality food at fair prices...excellent coffee..classical music..free wi-fi..great atmosphere...try the breakfast souffles (they can be very habit-forming). Our Panera's in Glastonbury CT seems to attract ALL ages and is family-friendly. Teens even use it as a date place at night. Has a fireplace going on chilly days.

Fantastic!
by holcombmom ,Mar 15 '05
Pros: Comfortable space and quiet atmosphere
Cons: Not enough chocolate on the menu!
I am at Panera Bread on Airport Boulevard in Mobile, Alabama every Tuesday night for a ladies get together. They have always been so kind and never rush us out. Not only that, their menu provides a little something for everyone. Thank you Panera!

Way Over Priced (And terrible pizza)
by sukhoi27ru ,Jan 10 '07
Pros: Really cannot think of a Pro.
Cons: Over priced, under valued, and not very tasty.
Stopped by a nearby Panera Bread store with a "free loaf" coupon in my sweaty hands. I chose the sesame seed and noticed that the regular price was $2.99. Went home, ate 2 slices with my dinner and realized that Central Market has better bread, more variety, and a lot cheaper. In addtition the size of the Panera bread was about 2/3's of a Central Market loaf.

Also had a coupon for a "free Crispino Pizza". Ordered the pepperoni and was totally disappointed. I have eaten frozen pizzas that were a better value and tastier. Several years ago I was in Irkutsk, Russia (Eastern Siberia) and was given a cheese pizza with mayonaise! The Russian pizza was better! Never again will I darken the doors of a Panera Bread Store. They are way, way overpriced for what they serve. My pizza had 2 small pieces of pepperoni on it.

I am somewhat of a frugal person and demand value for my money. No way does this place offer any value for your buck.

I don't get it.
by rwinpgh ,Oct 09 '06
Pros: Free wireless. Many locations.
Cons: An odd feeling of sameness in taste regardless what's ordered.
Panera is OK. And some we've been to have fabulous customer service. But as others here have mentioned, things tend to taste the same, regardless of what we were eating - turkey tasted like tuna tasted like ham... maybe it was the bread, maybe it was having the same sides on each visit. Or maybe it's all in our head. Regardless it's a very weird sensation that we can't say we experience anywhere else.

We would not go so far as to say the bread is fabulous. It's not really artisan quality - it's good, but the rustic breads are missing a toothiness quality we like from local bakers and we find the crumb on the baguettes too tight. But the bread we've order for sandwiches has been far better than Subway's "in store baked" and certainly bread from Quiznos.

So bread is good. Coffee not so much... then again no chain gets espresso or cappuccinos right.

All in all, when we're traveling, we prefer to try local places, not chains, so we don't search out Panera. But it's nice to know they're around when we need free wireless and a fresh muffin.

New Style, New Face, Great Taste
by spidey5991 ,Apr 12 '05
Pros: great soup, salad, sandwiches:calm atmosphere: Wonderful bakery with coffee of all sorts: friendly environment
Cons: Panera's are usually filled to the brim with people.
Panera Bread has always been a great place to eat. There salads aren't just your typical salad, they went all out. I love eating their Greek salads. I went to a Greek festival and had a salad. Panera's is much better, and they're American. There sandwiches are also very good. The Turkey Artichoke is my favorite sandwich. One bite and I'm in heaven. It just seems to have all the right flavors that fill your mouth with a vast number of pleasureful tastes. Panera is a great place to work on a college essay or homework. A great place to take the family, or even a great place to cut that business deal. I've never had a bad experience in Panera Bread and that is why I speak so highly of them.

Panera Bread Franchise...lets me down
by kman33 ,Sep 13 '05
Pros: I do like that get a quick cup of coffee thing.
Cons: Give me a small mom and pop coffee shop with homemade pastries anytime.
If you can get by the long line while waiting for your number to be read after you first waited at the order desk, you might enjoy Paneras'. Or once you are waited upon and have your order, finding that illusive place to sit may give you pause. Then you might notice how expensive your meal was and wonder why you didn't go to that small neighborhood restaurant that would have actually sent a waiter or waitress to your table.

On top of everything else, check out the number of calories in that so called healthy meal you just purchased. You might think it was good for you and you would be wrong.

The one bright spot of Paneras' is the freshly baked bread, but you're going to have to eat a lot of it to make up for the wait, bland atmosphere and expense.

Sorry Mom-Your Chicken Noodle Has nothing on them!!
by dd3311 ,Nov 09 '03
Pros: Chicken Soup at it's best-Bread to die for!!!Simply Divine!
Cons: May be hard to find a seat-but well worth the wait!
I could just wish this place was closer to work! But it is worth the drive just for the soup and bread. This place is an untapped goldmine for those of you who have not indulged! I thought it was just a bakery, but how wrong I was. The sandwiches are great and made to order-pair it with one of their soups and bliss begins! I listen to people rave, but until you try it you have no idea how wonderful this place is. The prices are a little high, but compared to what you pay for fast food-this is WORTH IT!! The soup and half-sandwich meal is filling, and yes, great tasting!! You just can't go wrong here whether you are alone or with a group,it's all good.Food and atmosphere get the big thumbs up!Try it once and you'll be back!

Good, cheap and sometimes healthy lunch option
by dipo ,Feb 01 '05
Pros: Cheap, fast, healthy options available.
Cons: Some items pricey (but you can avoid them), pastries nauseatingly sweet, service can be rude.
I tend to prefer independent restaurants, but i must say that at lunchtime Panera hits the spot. While not all the options are super healthy (but you can check their nutritional values online), it is up to you to pick the low-fat salad dressing over the greasy yummy sandwich. A bagel with low fat cream cheese is a lunch I'd pick over McDonald any time. I do not especially like their pastries, tho: they are way too sweet. Also, at the Pittsburgh, Oakland store they have the annoying habit of mixing the cream cheese scoops. The result is that sometimes your honey walnut cream cheese has an unwelcome oniony flavor. Service is sometimes friendly and sometimes downright rude, but that I can live with.

Panera so so
by eagle47 ,Mar 05 '06
Pros: Taste is okay, convenience is okay. People are nice.
Cons: Price is too high especially since there is no table service.
Panera is okay. I was not terribly impressed with it. The restaurant I ate in was clean and the food was okay. The bread is good but I can get similar products elsewhere for lower prices. If one only wants a loaf or two of bread or pastries to go it is better than if one wants a sandwich or something in the restaurant itself. Either way it is over priced by about a buck per product. Serving oneself is okay if the price is low but Panera is not low priced and so table service would be better. I give it 2 stars.

First Time Was Awesome!
by staciaclark ,May 08 '05
Pros: Great variety in salads, sandwiches, desserts, and drinks.
Cons: Need more low card offerings.
This was my first time at Panera and that only by accident. My mom and I were rushed for time and had to pick someplace close and quick. When we walked in and saw the line almost to the door, we almost walked out! But the line moved so quickly, it was my turn to order before I had even made up my mind!
Boy, were we glad we ended up at Panera! I had the Greek salad and Asiago Roast Beef sandwich. It was the best I've had in a long time. The salad was fresh and crisp. They even had low carb bread for me, a LC eater. My mom had the chicken Ceasar salad (of course, I had to have a bite.) I didn't know of half a sandwich and half a salad would be enough but I definitely got my fill.
I can't wait to go again!

Overpriced, underfed
by dantelman ,Sep 06 '09
Pros: Food tastes good.
Cons: Overpriced, small portions
When Panera bread first came on the scene a few years ago, they served good food and it was a good value. More recently though, they have raised their prices to the point to where its too expensive for what you get.  Their pick 2 (soup and sandwich) with a soda came to $9.50 with tax!  And the sandwich is relatively small and contains very little meat. The soups are delicious, but again the portion size is not that good. Like most restaurants, you pay $1.60 for 5 cents worth of soda.
I can go to any number of sub shops near me and get a 7" or 8" sub, with WAY MORE meat and fixings on it, for way less than what Panera charges!  The other day we got 3 Turkey subs plus drinks for $19.  The same meal at Panera would have been close to $30.

Sloppy, dirty food service
by enon09 ,Feb 14 '07
Pros: Nicely set-up restaurant, lots of bread products
Cons: Slow service, unclean eating area, slimy, filthy serving trays.
My wife and I visited the new Panera Bread bakery as part of our Valentine's Day celebration, but it was not a pleasant dining experience.

Although the line was short and there were two employees at the register, the service was very slow. Much slower than I would have expected, given the conditions.

Our orders were not correct; we both ordered soup in the bread bowls, but both were served in regular bowls. The staff quickly fixed this error, though.

We were not impressed by the condition of the seating area, as there was a lot of debris on the floor and few tables were clean. Perhaps it was a busy day, we could forgive this.

Finally, when I was bussing the materials from our table, I discovered that the trays on which our food had been served were filthy. Underneath the paper liner there was slimy goop, and chunks of the previous diner's meal. Needless to say we were both disgusted, we will never eat there again, and we will warn our friends away too.

Yuck.
