Pros: Shakes. 24 hours. Cons: Small burgers with a big price, tipping your server and skinny tasteless french fries.
NOTE: Steak N Shake has 380 locations in eighteen states throughout the south and Midwest of the United States. This Steak n Shake is one of the biggest scams ever when it comes to their burgers. They want you to believe that their burgers are not ...
Pros: Quick service, Good Shakes Cons: Burgers are not what you expect; Prices are High for what you get.

Pros: Good shakes and fries, china, flatware, wait staff. Cons: Low quality food, way overcooked burgers.
As Ive said before I pretty much loathe fast food aside from the occasional drive-thru breakfast when were in a hurry and need food on the run. Beyond a breakfast sandwich there is absolutely nothing appealing to industrial grade beef ...
It was Saturday night. Both Hunny and I were tired, hungry and cranky. Actually, it wasnt me who was cranky, but lets not get into that right now. Anyhow, we were in desperate need of food, and as usual, had nothing at home we could prepare. ...
Pros: Open 24 hours. Cute decor. OK food. Cons: High priced for what you get. Slow service.
I was really expecting some kind of sirloin steak like the Fosters low-price steak house here in town or, at the very least, steak-um type thin sliced steak on a bun when I went to Steak n Shake. From the outside, I had gathered that Steak ...
Pros: Some good menu items, open late Cons: Food quality is inconsistent, lack of personality, bland atmosphere, everything costs extra
Hubby and I stopped at Steak n Shake on the way home from work tonight. It wasnt that it was bad, but it was the same as it always is generally unexciting. While there are a few yummy menu items, Im going to give Steak n ...
A few years back there was an excited buzz on the street - a Steak n Shake restaurant was coming to town. I was one of the few people who had never eaten at, or even heard of, this restaurant. Ill admit it, my curiosity was ...
Pros: Good tasting burgers and chili. Cons: High prices = poor value. Many menu items of dubious quality.
What??? The "In Sight..." tag line means that because you can see the cooking area, the quality of the food must be better because the cooks won't serve a burger that's been dropped or worse yet, with boogers. (Don't laugh - I've seen it happen.) So ...
Pros: The best shakes ever. Cons: The rest is exceedingly ordinary.
Growing up I have extremely vague memories of eating at Steak 'n Shake with my siblings. I think I must have been only five at the time. When I moved away from home I stopped seeing Steak 'n Shake restaurants and I quickly forgot that they even ...
Pros: Clean, well lit, great diner motif, lots of staff that gets orders out quickly Cons: Too thick shakes&burgers, so many staff that they are bumping into each other
Shhh, if you will not tell...I will tell you my dark secret about Steak 'n Shake. I was a mystery shopper at our local Steak 'n Shake for years! Bad for them but free food for our family! Bad for them because I did not care for this restaurant at all! I ...
Pros: Open 24 hours, Great Strawberry Shortcake, Real Fountain cherry cokes! Cons: A bit steep price wise.
You know you are addicted to Epinions when you base your decision of “where to eat” on which restaurants you haven’t reviewed yet. I’m addicted, I’ll admit it. I turned down some friends for the movies because I’ve already written an epinion on it. So...
Pros: Retro decor, open all night Cons: Questionable cleanliness
I used to live close to a Steak & Shake and I remember visiting it at least a couple of times. My friend found a hair in her cheese fries while we were eating there once. Other than that, the visits weren't very memorable. Recently I visited Steak & ...
Pros: Cooked to order, high-quality ingredients, great milk shakes, nice family atmosphere Cons: Inconsistent service
First, let me warn you - this review is probably biased. I worked in various management capacities for Steak 'n Shake for almost 11 years, until last November. I left the restaurant chain to pursue other things, and I have pretty positive feelings ...
Pros: Good burgers and excellent shakes. Cons: Not as upscale as it claims to be.
Steak And Shake is not a steakhouse, despite what the name may lead some people to believe. So don't go into one expecting to order fillet mignon with a wine on the side. Steak And Shake takes its name from its famous BURGERS which it calls Steak...
Pros: Expanded menu, great tasting food, tasty fries, superb shakes and sundaes, prompt and courteous staff Cons: Drink extra with kids menu. Locations are not nationwide, limited to mid-west generally.
A Miserable Spring Break in Saint Louis, Missouri We planned a 7-day vacation to Saint Louis in May 2005 (Spring Break). St. Louis offered some cool places to visit, among them Magic House (highly recommended for kids, and a couple Fridays a ...
A long, long time ago in a city far, far away, there was this place called Steak n Shake. It was good, but it was, as I said, far away. When my brother would come back from college, we’d get some friends together and go. As you might imagine, they ...
Pros: Good steaks, and shakes as the name would imply. Cons: Sadly, it's a place in which you can really gain weight.
My Personals-
A few months ago, I visited a Steak & Shake, which are hard to find here where I live. Id forgotten I had tried it until I ate a very, very greasy burger at a carnival cook-off. The truth of it all is that, Steak & Shake is a...
Pros: 1950s Art Deco-style restaurant. Tasty burgers. Great shakes. Affordable. Cons: My experience: a couple missteps in orders (not too serious). Regional locations.
Steak 'n' Shake -- a restaurant chain founded by Gus Belt in 1934 Normal, Illinois -- is a diner showcasing a 1950s-style menu of sandwiches like burgers and chicken, fries, and shakes. Steak burgers and shakes are, as part of its name suggests, the ...
Pros: Family-friendly, open 24 hrs, unique shakes Cons: Slow service, some problems with food or orders
I've eaten at Steak n Shake since I was a kid (I'm now a young adult woman) and have always considered it good, but have a few gripes about the restaurant. Now I usually only go there if I have coupons or just want a shake. The Food Steak n ...
Pros: Open 24 hours, steakburgers and milkshakes are awesome! Cons: Service and small waiting area.
A brand-new Steak ‘n Shake just opened up in my area. My girlfriend and I went to this restaurant after church on Sunday and decided to give this new place a try. The parking lot was packed and we had to wait for someone to leave because there...
Pros: great place for a family to go. Cons: name misleading-really not a steak place at all.
My family and I go to Steak and Shake every few months in various towns. When we're out visiting and see one we usually swing by. It is a neat place for a family to eat. Mom and Dad can sit and be waited on, but kids can get neat desserts and treats. ...
Pros: Clean, sit down style with home-made taste. Made to order. Cons: Rather spendy, small portions
I love the old-fashioned “Burger and Malt” places....and that is what I hoped “Steak and Shake” would be. I had heard that they had been around for a great number of years and hoped they would have the same quality burgers as one could...
Pros: great deals, good kids meals, shakes, steakburgers, great fries Cons: service is iffy
Steak n Shake is a great restaurant with some amazing deals, although the service isnt the best! Steak n Shake is home to their world famous steakburgers. These burgers are very good! Plus, your meal comes with some delicious fries and ...
I've always lived in a small town in Mississippi, and the last 5 years we've seen a lot of growth in our county.Steak houses and food chains have been popping up every where,so I've had the chance to try food chains I've never even heard of lately. ...
Pros: Excellent Food, and Friendly service! Cons: The wait may be a little bit but nothing too bad!
I first heard about this place when I was about 8 years old, I never realized how popular the place was until I started going with my family on Friday and Saturday nights. The Steak n Shake on the U of I campus used to have old cars on Friday and...
Pros: good food, great prices, friendly service Cons: no real non-smoking section if lots of people light up
"More cheese" is what my 20-month old says when we eat at Steak N Shake. And she's not even talking about the cheeseburgers- she's taking about the salad. I always intend to order a sandwich when I come here, but somehow I end up ordering the...
Pros: Food is okay; about a "6" on a scale of 1-10. Cons: Service has to be the WORST I've EVER seen in my LIFE!
Recently, a Steak and Shake opened here in Mobile, AL. My wife and I decided to give it a try about a month ago. When we walked in, it seemed pleasant enough; it had kind of a "diner" atmosphere. We stood by the "Wait to be...
Pros: Babies are welcome Cons: Maybe good food, maybe not
We tend to eat at this restraunt occasionally. There are those times when you crave those cheesy, cheddar fries or that chili mac. But on the other hand with the type of service you may get there, you have to ask will it be worth it? Don't get me wrong...
Pros: Was trusted to retrieve cash to pay bill Cons: long wait, warm food
Before leaving the Gulf Coast area and exploring the southeast area of Florida I traveled to my soon to be new home. During my travel I saw many Steak and Shake restaurants along the way. Naturally when you see much of the same restaurant you think that...
Pros: Good food, fast service Cons: Not so fast drive through service
The thing I like about Steak 'N Shake is that it's a fast food hamburger place but the food is more like what you would get at a fifties 'sit down and order' restaurant. The hamburgers are high quality, more like high grade ground chuck or chopped steak....
Pros: Great food, available 24 hours a day, waiters/waitresses, and of course the double steakburger with cheese platter with fries and chili. Cons: A bit more pricey than fast food places.
Commercials are supposed to bring customers, right? Maybe Steak 'n Shake is a bit mixed up. Having a couple of the uniformed waiters walk onto your T.V. screen telling you that Steak 'n Shake cuts their pickles the long way is probably not the best...
Pros: open 24 hours Cons: slowest in restaurant history
I'm a sucker for Steak-n-Shake because it's open 24 hours and I'm tired of Denny's. They have a decent selection, even if it's priced a bit high for fast food. Maybe that's why they are so darn slow. Excruciatingly slow. It's slow food.
My review of...
Pros: fun, great staff Cons: food is often denny's quality
I have recently become a regular at the local Steak ‘N Shake. When friends and I were looking for somewhere to go in the middle of the night to hang out, we usually opted for Denny’s. However, since the Denny’s here in Tampa is barely above acceptable...
Steak & Shake is great for when I want a break from the usual rotation of Wendy's, Mcdonalds, Taco Bell, etc. It also makes for a good road stop meal. It is not as economical as the aforementioned restaurants, so I only go every once in a...
Pros: open 24 hours Cons: rude service, slow, over priced
I have only been to one Steak n' Shake, located in Indiana. I have eaten there 3 times, twice dine-in, once drive-thru. Both of my dine-in experiences were acts of desperation. They were both around 3 in the morning and me and my husband had been eating...
Pros: Bean crock, bean crock, I can't believe it's true. If you eat at Stake N Shake the Sea Hag will get you too. The atmosphere of the local Steak N Shake inspired that ditty. We always seem to have fun there. Cons: The food will guarantee that you toilet won't get lonely for at least a few days.
This review will not use any subliminal messaging....bean crock....to sway you in any way shape...bean crock...or form.
I work in a movie theater. In fact I work in a major cineplex that is quickly strangling the life out of the independent...
Pros: Great chicken, great shakes, great vanilla Diet Coke, great service Cons: A little pricey
My friend and I were craving a milkshake last night. We started out for our usual United Dairy Farmer's strawberry milkshakes, which are wonderful by the way, but then we realized that we were also hungry. You can't get food at UDF (unless you count a...
Pros: Great Food and Wide Selection For Fast Food Cons: Takes a little longer than some going through the drive through
I have to tell you that Steak N Shake is still my favorite fast food hamburger place to eat. I will not tell you how many years ago it was that I worked there. I was sweet 16 at the time and my addiction to their food started then.
Pros: Good Food; Big Menu; Fast; Made to Order; Clean; Smoking Allowed; Carry-Out Cons: Price; Cash Only; Smoking Allowed; Fries get cold.
I have been a fan of Steak 'n Shake restaurants ever since they built one in my suburban hometown several years ago. Ever since then I've been going there whenever I crave a spicy bowl of Chili Mac or a big chocolate malt. Now I usually go there once...
Pros: Open 24 hours! Cons: Absolutely everything else about this place is a con
This place is unclean, the people are rude and the service is slower than a turtle racing the hare. I've waited as long as an hour for just a burger and fries and the food tasted like cardboard.
Yes, perhaps one for each chamber of the heart! I enjoy going to Steak and Shake. I can feed all of my nasty habits... I can eat a big greasy burger have a bowl of thick chili and slurp down a rich shake while smoking cigarettes the whole time....
Steak 'n Shake has several locations within 10 miles of where I live, so I manage to get to one of them every couple of weeks or so. I also stop in one every now and then when I'm on the road in Indiana, Illinois, or Ohio, so I have more than a...
Pros: Nice atmosphere, Great food Cons: A little extreme for a cheeseburger
Steak 'n Shake has been a part of America for a good 70 years. Since the Stock Market Crash, they have been serving America faithfully and over time become a humongous chain of restaraunts. Nowadays the menu has grown greatly and the service has...
Pros: better alternative than McDonalds, Burger King, and other fast food restaurant, en all. Cons: Few locations
Recently I got to check out Steak and Shake for the first time (Clearwater, Florida location) and in comparison directly to the big boys of fast food (Mickey D's, Burger King, Wendy's, Checker'sRally's, etc -- I don't count Subway or Blimpies because...
Pros: Great food. Cons: S-L-O-W and variable drive-thru service.
Steak & Shake, the name says it all.
While Steak & Shake sports excellent shakes, very tasty burgers, and a cook-to-order method of delivery, there's a great deal of variability in the level of service one receives.
Pros: Open 24 hours, high quality fast food Cons: Steak patties are thin (get a double!)
Late night food is a necessity in my hectic life, so I was happy to learn that a Steak 'n' Shake would be coming to town. I appreciate being able to choose between dining in and the drive up service 24 hours a day.
The last three times we went there, the service was terrible. We thought after the two bad episodes we would try it one more time. Same results! We were seated at a table and there were tables...
Back in 1999 when I went down to the state track meet I had one of the best eating experiences for a cheap price. It was the second day that I was down there our relay team didn't make it to the second day but one of our runners did. Since we were on a...
Pros: great food, fresh, tasty, good variety Cons: None where I live now!
I remember eatting at these when I was in college, then I thought they went out of business, but apparently not! We saw them again when we were moving from MI to TX in 98, and decided to try them again--what a treat!
Pros: Family atmosphere, or friends get-together place Cons: not much choice once you get out of the burgers and sundaes
We were having a particularly rough time with Angelica, aged 2. A very precocious child, too old for her years and very opinionated, she was making us earn our keep as grandparents. She needed a wallop across her butt, but we all know that you can't do...
Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive Cons: We dont have them in Maryland :(
I have only been to a Steak n Shake twice, while on vacation in Missouri. I wish we had this chain on the east coast, Id be in there all the time, and would probably gain 50lbs too!
I love the atmosphere in this restaurant. Its set up like a...
I love Steak 'N Shake, mainly because of the atmosphere. The food is good, and especially their chocolate shakes! But the atmosphere just drew me in. Maybe it was because it reminded me of a 1950's diner, which I thought was neat, or maybe it was just...
Pros: 24 hrs open Cons: lousy service. Food quality nothing special
Steak and Shake
My brother and I arrived in Steak&Shake at Orange Avenue in the city of Orlando at 1:30 am. The place was clean and just two tables were occupied. After waiting for 5 minutes, the waiter approaches our table and takes our...
There have been times when I have literally wanted to jump in the back in front of the grill and just make my own burger! As many have already said, this place should be called "Steak and Wait!" Their whole motto of food made fresh is just...
Pros: real service at a fast food restaurant Cons: I agree it is a bit too Pricey
Here is an inside view of Steak'n'Shake. I am an employee at the S'n'S in Peru. I have always thought the food was great, even before I worked there. That's probably why I had applied for the job in the first place. I understand that it seems to...
Pros: clean, friendly, good food Cons: little cold in the dining room - temperature wise
We eat out at least twice a week and when ever we are near Scottsdale
Mall in South Bend, Indiana we eat at Steak n Shake.
I had given up that I would ever find any restaurant that was capable
of making and serving a malted milk shake...
Pros: I didn't die Cons: Cash only? What's up with that?
Recently, when I went to pay for a meal I was informed that credit cards and debit cards were not accepted as payment - cash only. At no time before or after the meal did we see any indication that this was the payment policy at this restaurant. The lack...
Pros: Great food, good service, clean dining room. Cons: A little pricey, slower than McDonalds (but so what?)
If your purpose is not finding GOOD food but rather finding FAST food, avoid Steak 'n Shake. This is not to say you'll wait an unreasonable amount of time for service. This is one of those situations that prove that time is relative. While it may...
Pros: None that I can think of. Cons: Over priced food of inferior quality.
Barf Burger and Shake by rainbowswan Today I was invited to lunch by a friend who had wanted to try our local Steak and Shake Restaurant. Neither of us had ever been there and after seeing all the commercials on TV we thought it would be a nice change ...
Pros: No customers for breakfast so the bad food gets to you quickly. Cons: See my comments below
Here are my experiences with Steak 'N Shake (Steak N Shake). I usually eat breakfast out almost every day. Steak 'N Shake makes breakfast to order and is the freshest breakfast around. (White Castle also makes fresh to order Breakfast)Steak ' n Shake ...
Pros: Good shakes, fries not bad (but too much salt) Cons: It's not steak, it's a hamburger and they are too heavy handed with salt
Despite the name, Steak 'N Shake does not offer steak but hamburgers that they claim are "steak burgers". I've eaten at several locations in south Missouri where I live and some locations are slightly better than others. Overall, though, eating at ...
I grew up on Steak and Shake. It's an institution where I come from. I spent many nights there in college. Therefore, I probably view this restaurant with rose colored glasses: it can do no wrong, in my opinion.
Do not go by a sign(we did)THE SIGN OUT SIDE READ: NEW DINING ROOM NOW OPEN! Boy did we get fooled. As we walked into the place on your left was a big green bucket, collecting water in it from the top of the roof. We walked on into the bath room it was a...
Pros: Waitress was polite Cons: Food tasted like cardboard!
Currently, I went up to Central Illinois to visit family and everyone was raving about this place. I was there for two months and did not go to eat at Steak 'n Shake until the night before I left. I figured that since everyone kept saying that it...
Pros: I loved my Frisco burger. Tasty and was my favorite Cons: Don't eat here
Hi everyone. I have been asleep from the epinion world but decided to reamerge by doing a review on my last place of employment. Tada we get to read about Steak N Shake. I decided to work there because it was a twenty four hour restaurant and my...
I go to Steak 'n Shake for one reason and one reason only - their shakes. Strawberry is my favorite. I love the delicious flavor of the handmade shake with the whipped cream and cherry on top. Yup! I've been know to go out for one in the wee hours of...
Pros: Lots of selection for a burger place, open 24 hours Cons: POOR service, low quantity of food for price
Steak and Shake is the place for you! The restaurants are almost always filthy in the dining room - so I bet you can only guess what the kitchen looks like.
You are more than welcome to seat yourself but 9 times out of 10 there will be many...
Pros: Open 24 hours a day Cons: the wait to get it "right"
Steak 'n Shake wasn't on the top of my list of places to grab a late night snack, but my little sister insisted. Besides, how many other place are open for sit down at 11:30 p.m.? There was four of us, and we sat down in a booth. Fairly comfortable, I...
Pros: Close to home Cons: Milkshakes that are a mix
We have a Steak'n Shake about 10 minutes down the road from our home. It is in a very convenient location. It is close to the new Stadium 16 movie theatre.
We eat there enough to know that the milkshakes are made from a powder mix. The reason I...
Pros: location, fast service Cons: cold, soggy food
I live quite a ways from town so when I go it is a treat to stop and eat out. A new Steak and Shake just opened right beside our super Walmart. I thought this was great!! Two of my friends even went to work there and underwent long hours of training...
Pros: Family friendly and great shakes Cons: Pricey burgers, slow service
I think the main reason we keep going back to Steak N' Shake despite the slow service is the shakes. The burgers are tasty but the price is a little steep. The meat in the burgers is much better than McDonalds or Burger King. I wrote a complaint to...
Pros: Steakburgers, shakes, freshly-made food. Cons: You're in for a wait.
Ever since I visited my first Steak n Shake, when I was about eight, I've felt that they were one of the absolute best fast food chains out there. And while I've always thought their advertising was great ("bean crock"), I like Steak n Shake...
Pros: Great Shakes Cons: Maybe a little high for the shakes
Steak and shake has the best milk shakes around. Not only do you get that nostalgic feeling when you visit there but the food is good too.Don't make the mistake of asking for a hamburger there though. They are steak burgers and good too.I like mine all the...
Pros: Efficient service, good taste, wonderful shakes Cons: have to wait a little bit longer than fast food joints, sometimes over-seasoned
We have a brand new Steak-N-Shake restaurant just up the block. It's a sleek new building.
It's set up in an extremely efficient way. They have a very nice salad bar, but the menu hasn't really changed. The best item enjoy there is a double...
Pros: fast service, hot food Cons: sandwiches seem to be getting smaller
Ok, Steak and Shake is fairly new in my area, (about a year), and they serve good burgers. The onion rings are very good,as is the chili. The one problem that I have seen, is that during the past year that we have patronized Steak and Shake, the size of...
The first time I went to Steak n Shake was on my brothers birthday last year because he want to. So, of course, wile we were shopping my parents gave in to his whimpering. At the moment I really did not care because I was hungry for some good food ...
Pros: open 24 hours a day, those wonderful thin fries, real milkshakes, great atmosphere Cons: fast service is sort of hard to get
Steak 'n Shake would have to be my all time favorite restaurant. I would say i go there at least twice a week if not more. First off, it's one of the only places that i know that stays open 24 hours around here in St. Louis and that's very important to...
Pros: Steak 'n Shake isn't just a restaurant- it's a tradition. Cons: They only take cash. Grr...
Steak 'n Shake is a great place to go for cheap food at any time of the day or night. If they'd take credit cards or checks, I'd be there any time of the day or night.
For breakfast, you can get an egg and sausage sandwich at McDonalds that...
Pros: The steak burger was good. Cons: The fries were filthy.
My husband and I just got dinner from Steak N Shake today, thinking that we wouldn't have any trouble. We were sadly mistaken, unfortunately. They rang the order up wrong, and then argued with my husband about it. After he brought the food home, we...
I have been eating at Steak and Shake restaurants for many years now, and I still cannot find anyone that can beat their shakes! (not to mention their food!) The Cookies and Cream shake just makes me go wild!!! It is a huge shake and comes with a big...
Pros: open 24 hours Cons: very slow inside and in drive thru and they hire some strange people to work 3rd shift
I don't go to Steak and Shake very often and there is a reason for this. The place is entirely too slow! Every time I do go I have to wait forever and if you are a busy person,(like me!)then the less time spent waiting in the drive thru line the better...
Pros: Open 24 hours!! Need I say more? Cons: Nothing and Everything... you'll see what I mean
The food at Steak-N-Shake is greasy and not all that fabulous. The servers are inept and sweat is usually dripping off their faces right onto your food. The building is clean enough as long as you don't look too closely. The kitchen is open so you...
Pros: Great Chicken Sandwich and Shakes Cons: Not close to any location
I was a little hesitant at first to try a place that called itself “Steak 'n Shake”. But I found out it was a good to visit after all. The restaurant was clean and had friendly service. Their appearance is of the 50’s style diner on the inside, bright...
Pros: grill cooked burgers Cons: service inconsistent
I love Steak n' Shake hamburgers. I grew up in the state where they were started and I would drive a long way to find one. We don't have any in our state, but we always look for one when traveling. We love the old fashioned look. The interior looks...
Pros: Great food Cons: Overpriced, small portions leave you wanting more
Steak N Shake is a diner setting type restaurant.....when you walk in you feel like you have stepped into the 1950's. This restaurant is famous for their 'steakburgers' and shakes.
While the food is delicious, there just isn't enough of it....
I had my first run in of steak and shake when I was a junior in high school on my way down to Alabama for Spring Break. I instantly fell in love with the shakes and fries. I could not wait until the trip back until I could have more. Unfornatly there...
Ok. Theres not too much to say about good ol' Steak N' Shake. Its pure entertainment, one of the best teenager hang outs ever. The food is good, for kids, adults may wish to go somewhere else. So many memories I have from Steak N Shake. This place is...
Pros: Great, fresh food Cons: A little pricey, but worth it.
I lived most of my life in the Midwest, and Steak and Shake was my favorite "fast" food restaurant. Their french fries are better than any I've ever had and the only way to describe their burgers is delectable. I've now moved to the Southwest...
Pros: Great Place to work and Excellent Food Cons: Shoe string fries arent making the cut.....
I love Steak n Shake but just can't stand their commercials. Ugh, how annoying!!! And their "fries" oh my goodness you better eat them as soon as they are brought to you. Steak n Shake fries are just too nasty if eaten cold. Other than that...
I go to Steak 'n Shake restaurants whenever I can. There are none within an hour drive, but if I have to go to an area where there is one - that's where I'll stop to eat. Everything I have eaten there has been excellent. The shakes are the best. We...
Pros: choice of fast food besides just burgers Cons: a little pricey
My first job was at a Steak 'n Shake drive in in the mid 60's. I worked as a "curby". Which meant a waiter who came to your car, took your order and then delivered it back on a tray which attached to your car window. Yes, sounds just like...
Pros: nice if you want to sit around and chat all night Cons: poor service
The food is decent the shakes are good but every time I have ever gone to a steak 'n shake restaurant the service has been terrible.
The first time it happened I thought "ok..bad nite"....but that could not possibly be the case in my...
There are many things I like about this restaurant. First of all, I love their strawberry pancakes, which are served with whipped cream, for breakfast. These are a great deal at $3 for 3 large pancakes topped with strawberries and whipped...
Steak 'n' Shake produces a good (not great) hamburger, and the side items are tasty. I enjoy the chili, the baked beans, the cole slaw, the garden salad, and the fries. All of these I would rate above average.
When you go to Steak 'n Shake, do yourself a HUGE favor and order an Orange Freeze. It is like a giant Dreamsicle, and if I could live on these things...believe me, I sure would!
Steak 'n Shake is open 24 hours, which is great for college...
Let me start off by stating, I like Steak n Shake, I've always liked Steak n Shake, but location matters. I can only comment on the restaurants in the St. Louis area. I have been to SnSs in other areas and wasn't impressed. Steak n Shake is like many...
Pros: Quick, tasty Cons: Grease, grease, and more grease
I was a bit surprised how Epinions listed Steak 'n Shake as a Steakhouse. It's far from it. In fact, it's a simple 50's diner/burger joint. But it's fun!
Seat yourself, pull out the menu, and wait for a perky server to be at your side. Be...
Pros: Good greasy burger Cons: Long wait, poor service
My experience's with Steak and Shake vary. When I was young I remember going there with my parents. The food was tasty and the service was fair. About the same as you get a regular inexpensive diner. That has changed in recent years.
Pros: better than average food Cons: slow drive-thru windows
I don't go to Steak 'n Shake that often, but find it better than your average burger joint. For one thing, you can get a real breakfast, with eggs, bacon or sausage, home fries and toast, not a rubbery omelet on a tough biscuit. There are a variety of...
Pros: Neat decor, good milkshakes Cons: High on prices, low on quantity of food
I was surprised when I walked into the Nashville area Steak and Shake restaurants, Their decor was really nice, but the price of food was a little high. They mostly serve your usual French fries and burgers cooked to the way you want them, but when I...
Pros: clean and nice Cons: no unchopped steak only ground steak
We were going out to a movie and to eat. We don't go out a bunch I like to cook and my fam likes to eat. We check out new places from time to time. We saw a new steak and shake and said ok. The place was clean and the shakes were very big and the food...
Pros: Clean, bright pleasant atmosphere, great ice cream and desserts. Cons: Mediocre food, poor service.
When Steak 'n Shake opened here in Topeka, KS, I was thrilled. I had heard good things about the restaurant from a friend of mine in Kansas City, and Topeka needed some variety in its restaurants.
Pros: Most Steak and Shakes are close what you see on TV. Cons: This Truck Stop Shake and Shake was like the old burger joints in the 60's.
On 6 Nov 2005 we had a very bad experience at your restaurant located in the Pilot truck stop in Tifton Georgia. We entered your restaurant at about 1530 and were seated very quickly. In order to expedite our stay I informed my wife what I wanted to ...
Pros: DEPENDABLE TASTE - GREAT SHAKES Cons: None - all prices go up. At least its worth it here.
After residing out West for several years It was with great anticipation that I pulled into the first Steak & Shake I saw after driving back to relocate in Illinois. This was in Missouri. That anticipation of the great taste of a Steakburger was ...
Pros: Awesome milkshakes (Mocha, Vanilla, and Banana were among my favs)
Open 24 hours Cons: Not a good value for your money.
Burgers are small
Ah, good times. It was my first job and I worked with friends. Any who, If you do decide to go there your typical visit will be like this: Obviously, you walk through the doors. You will notice that the restaurant is kind of on the small side. ...
Steak N Shake is a great restaurant for the entire family. The menu is very large and diverse and includes several choices of appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks. They have the best fries around! The atmosphere feels like a 50's diner. The service ...
Pros: Great food & prices. And they now take credit cards. Cons: Only in mid-west & south ; but moving east - now in PA
I love SnS! and have for years ever since the first time I had one of their burger and a shake in the 1980s. Unfortunately, they are only in mid-west and south and not in CT where I live. I flew to St Louis in Feb 2003 and my first stop after leaving...
Pros: very good shakes Cons: hamburger not as good as advertised, products not worth high prices charged.
After a long night of Christmas shopping my family and I were ready for a good meal so we went to our local Steak'n Shake in Daytona Beach FL. We were very dissatisfied with our poor service, quality of food and overall experience. The advertising is...
Pros: Open 24 hours. Great shakes! Cons: Skinny fries, high prices, poor quality, dirty facilities
Steak n' Shake is quite a drive from where I live and so I don't frequent this restaurant very often. It's just not worth the drive. To me, it seems like an upscale checkers. Their prices are more expensive, and the quality is not that much better than ...
Pros: 24hrs Service, Fast Service, 1960's Atmosphere Cons: There are few Steak and Shakes and are all located in the suburbs!!!!
Steak and Shake is a kind of fast food restarant you would like to eat there instead ordering it to go. I would always choose S and S instead of IHOP or Denny's if it was 2am in the morning. If you want better quality food and be gurantee that you'll be...
We recently got a Steak N Shake near campus. This was quite a nice addition for "after bar hunger" :). But, I have heard more bad than good. I have eaten there probably 3 or 4 times. The wait staff is nice and courteous, but the food isn't...
And I thought friendly's was the best when it came to burgers. I was wrong , very wrong. When I took a vacation down to florida, just a week ago, and thats where S&S dwell everywhere [how much i wish S&S was in N.J or N.Y]. I went in and sat...
Pros: great food, delicious shakes and a good time Cons: slow drive thrus
i recommend steak and shake to everyone! this is a great fast food place with lots to choose from and the best shakes you've ever had. i go there at least three times per week after work when i just don't feel like cooking. and it's a really great place...
Pros: Great burgers, cheese fries & wonderful shakes! Cons: Attached to a nasty truck stop with nasty truck stop bathrooms!
This is one of our favorite places to eat. Sure, the service is slower than typical fast food, but that's because this isn't typical fast food. It's all cooked to order, so you must be patient. For that reason alone, i'd avoid the drive thru for a to...
Pros: Shake was good Cons: Portions small, Price too high
A new Steak&Shake opened in my town recently and I went there expecting a lot more than I got. I ordered the basic burger and fries platter with a shake. The waiter obviously was new and needed more training. When the food arrived I was disappointed...
Pros: Great food, quick service--what more could you want? Cons: a little pricey
Steak and shake is a little expensive-I will say that right off. You'll pay about seven dollars for a steakburger and fries, which is expensive around here. BUT, I would say it's worth it. The atmosphere is great in this restaurant..very diner-ish and...
Although a little pricier than other fast food burger chains, it is well worth the extra money. We have been waiting for years for one to open in our area. The food is fresh and hot. Because they are actually made from chopped steak, the burgers are...
Pros: inexpensive, great shakes, open 24 hours Cons: long wait, we had poor drive in service
I Live in NYC where there is no Steak n' Shake, alas. When I visit my family in Florida it is a big treat for me.
It sort of reminds me of the 'Friendly's chain.
A main reason is the price. For just over $2 I get a huge milkshake topped...
Maybe I complain too much, I do not know, but when you ask for NO onion, and only ketchup, lettuce, cheese, and pickle, isn't that what you are supposed to get? I waited in the drive thru of our local steak n shake for not 5, not, not 15, but 35 minutes...
ok, I have only been to Steak and Shake a few times but I wish I lived there. I love their food. Their milk shakes are to die for and their chicken tenders are sooo good. McDonalds, eat your heart out.
Pros: If you like Sugar this place is for you. Cons: Fat, Prostate Cancer, Diabetic
A great day @ Steak n Shake? Before they smash the burger take a good look. When they smash the burger take a big whiff. Then go home open a can of Alpo dog food and do the same. Notice the resemblance? Ask the manager if you can go back to see ...
Pros: a nice quick sit down meal Cons: wait to be seated
I must say that Steak and Shake is becoming one of my Favorite eating places. You dont have to get a burger and fries any more. They have a wonderful Turkey Melt that really makes your mouth water. You can order a salad, soup, or onion rings with your...
Pros: cleanliness, cheese fries Cons: everything else...excluding other food choices
Let me just say that if you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you. Steak and Shake just opened up a store here in Montgomery and though the atmosphere is great, the service stinks...and I say that in the nicest possible way. Not only does it...
These must be the skinniest fries in the world. They get cold very fast and they don't have much flavor either. And every time I go there they mess up my order somehow. I would rather eat just about anywhere but here. The prices are good but the quality...
Pros: Great food Cons: Long wait, abominable service, management couldn't care less about the customer
Of all the restaurants I've been to, I have to admit that Steak 'n Shake tried the hardest of all of them to turn me off. Every time I have tried them in the last year and a half, the service was abominable, and the wait was over an hour. Worse yet,...
Pros: excellent food, friendly service, great atmosphere Cons: none
I have learned lots of criticism about Steak n Shakes' service the past few years. Being a waiter at my local Steak n Shake, obviously makes me a upset that people feel this way. Maybe I just work at a very efficient Steak n Shake, but so far our staff...
Pros: the food is great Cons: they are always busy
I have been eating at steak in shake for many years. In my opinion it is one of the best hamburgers for being in the fast food chains. Everyone of the restaurant's I have been in have been clean. The service was excellent, they were very friendly and...
Pros: flavored sodas and great sandwiches Cons: higher prices then most fast food
I often bring home food from Stead N Shake and rarely eat there. The atmosphere inside is very much like most fast food restaurants. The difference here is the service. A waiter or waitress comes to your table to take your order and bring your...
Pros: Very good food, Great Shakes Cons: Service was not very good, Small Portions
I very much enjoyed eating at the "Steak and Shake", after hearing so much about this place we finally decided to seek and find...I was on a mission, and I wouldn't be happy unless I tried them out. When we walked in, the atmosphere was high tech 50's,...
Steak and Shake has been around a little while and is pretty close to my house. Even though it is very close to my house, I don't go there all the time. The reason why I don't go there all the time is that their burgers are not that filling and they ...
Pros: Shakes Cons: Burgers, salad, size and price.
We had been driving for 13 hours. We were tired and hungry. Hubby had been seeing the signs for 'Steak and Shake' and wanted to try it if we found one close to a motel. At Springfield, Illinois, we got off the interstate and there was a combo right beside each other so we could just park at motel and walk to it. The decor was nice. We were expecting a much better burger than we received. I had the salad and fries. He chose the fries and slaw. My salad was half brown. The ranch dressing was in the little container, which was fine if it had been kept refrigerated. It was room temperature. My hubby said the slaw had a taste like it had been left uncovered and absorbed other odors. Then the little burgers came. Not much more meat that a Krystal. He got a shake. That was the only good thing about the meal. That was the first and last visit for us.
STEAK N' SHAKE RESTAURANT REVIEW by tasterschoice ,Apr 07 '07
Pros: MILKSHAKES are the best, great flavor...old fashioned taste, the only thing that's worth going for. Cons: nasty burgers, nasty cooks, nasty overall appearance. Employees are in denial that everything is wrong.
On March 30th 2007, my husband and I went to a Steak N' Shake in Fairview Heights Illinois on Lincoln Trail street...let me tell you, it was the worst experience of my life. It wasn't the cleanest place; except the bathroom, ironically.
The cook was a big old mess and he had the nerve to ask how the meal was afterward. When we told him how overcooked and burned the burgers and mushrooms were and the club sandwich smashed to to a razor thin edge...he had the nerve to say that's the way they train them to cook, needless to say, we will never, ever, ever go back there and strongly discourage anyone else from eating there.
The food was atrocious and the personnel was just as bad. Run from steak 'n shake in fairview heights illinois!
The Best, Juiciest, Tastiest Cheeseburgers Ever can be found at all locations. by cheesyc ,May 12 '05
Pros: The burgers, condiments, and buns are always fresh and served in a timely manner. Cons: The lettuce and tomatoes are sometimes icy cold and cool down the burger.
I am happy to be living in the mid-west where Steak and Shake Restaurants are available. It is great to be able to have a cheeseburger where you can taste the quality of the meat and where it doesn't taste like paper. Having one with bacon is even yummier! And we've found the service to be very prompt and courteous. Prices are in line with the quality of the product.
Brand has gone to hell by classicist73 ,Dec 08 '07
Pros: Retro decor, open 24hrs Cons: Terrible value,Food quality and portion size have fallen off a cliff, screwing up orders.
This used to be a decent place open 24 hrs where you could get a Steakburger which genuinely tasted like it might have something steaklike in it and a milkshake that was pretty good. Now I can barely tell the difference between a Steakburger and a McDonald's hamburger. And I feel like the same people that supply McDonald's shakes are supplying Steak n Shakes.
Well even if I can't tell the difference between Steak n Shake and McDonald's my WALLET sure can! After having another order totally screwed up today and my last two experiences have been less than satisfying, I have to say I am done with Steak n Shake.I hope the bean counters who are responsible get fired soon or else Steak n Shakes days are numbered.
Pros: Food always fresh and high-quality, extensive menu, excellent shakes, delicious steakburgers, great fries Cons: Prices are somewhat high for people who just want quick fast food
I've grown up eating at Steak 'N Shake, and it is an amazing alternative to fast food! The burgers are delicious and made to order (some people may not like the fact that they are thin, but I enjoy that), the fries are always crispy and fresh, and the shakes are hand-dipped and made to order, as well. The shakes are always amazing (I recommend dark chocolate or cheesecake shakes!). The beef vegetable soup is incredible for those interested in a lower calorie option. In fact, I've never had a bad meal at Steak 'N Shake. For a restaurant with a sit-down option, the prices are low (although still high than fast food) and the service is generally very quick.
Pros: nothing Cons: waiters, food, prices, everything SEE ABOVE
I thought i'd go and get a nice burger and a decent shake. since those are both hard to come by these days and since i had never tried sns i figured id give it a try-NEVER again will i go there-the waitress was terrible and the food was well below average and way too expensive. Two people can not eat there with out spending over $15.00 (not including gratuity-which they don't deserve anyways) if they want to eat a burger fries and a shake. This place sucks. You can go to Braums or Wendy's and get 10x better food and 10x the amount of food. I am suprised this place stays in business.
Pros: did like the hash browns but how can you screw up eggs and bacon? Cons: the service was beyond terrible
The service at Austin,Tex. location is the worst I have ever gotten in a restaurant.I could not even get a spoon for my coffee until my food was served. One person in our group did not even get her food until we were all finished, and there was a total of 12 people in this place. First and last time to visit this establishment.
Food o.k. but so are a lot of other places that put the customer first! We were in there about 2:30 on a Saturday morning and the lack of cars in the parking lot should have been the first clue. In Austin, Texas we party and then go eat. We are all senior citizens and know how to behave ourselves in public places so there was absolutely no excuse for the poor service
Pros: Good food, good shakes, fast service. Cons: High price, small burgers.
I live in Indianapolis where Steak 'n Shake is headquartered, so as you can imagine, there are plenty to choose from. I eat here quite often and love the food. I think their burgers are small but have great flavor. The chili is awesome and thier chicken strips are to die for. I also like the french fires. I guess I like skinny, wimpy fries. I also think the deserts and shakes are great.
A lot of people have been quite harsh to Steak 'n Shake. I am not sure why. Yes, the price is somewhat high, and the service is not the best but the food is good.
The burgers are a bit small but I love the flavor and moistness. The chili is thick and rich and the chicken strips are so tender and just melt in your mouth. Their shakes are wonderful. 2% milk fat and hand dipped. Sure beats most milk shakes.
The biggest downfall of Steak n Shake is the price. The food is more expensive than it is worth. Overall, I will still pay the high price because I do not feel you can get this kind of food anywhere else.
Soggy BUNS, Yuckyuckyuck by nissan370zx ,Aug 27 '09
Pros: The food is better when you go inside & get table service. Cons: Cold food & awful bad soggy buns, when you go through the "drive thru".
We live real close to a Steak 'n Shake & most times will just go through the "drive thru". When we get home, everything is always cold. Also really bad soggy buns. If you ask the order taker to keep the steakburger separate from the bun, you will be lucky if they have listened & done just that. Needs alot of improvement. Also you should use foil bags, etc.
Pros: Great Fries
Super milkshakes
Unique tasting hamburgers Cons: Quality control needs improvement
i like shake n bake
some restaurants have a problem with quality control (ie cold soggy fries or grease dripping from hamburgers) but when cooked right their fries and burgers are excellent and habit forming.
