Pros: great atmosphere, history is unparalleled, tailgating meets you with a plethora of fantastic smells Cons: tickets are hard to find - they always sell out
I no longer live in Iowa, but when I was, I remember great times on Saturday afternoons.
Kinnick Stadium was built in 1929 and renamed Kinnick Stadium (after Hawkeye great and 1939 Heisman trophy winner Nile Kinnick). Kinnick has gone through...
Pros: super atmosphere around stadium
25K great seats Cons: absolutely no parking
45K lousy seats
a trip to Kinnick is not for the faint of heart.
leave early. if the game is at 1 pm, you should plan to be in the city limits of Iowa City/Coralville by 9 am. unless you have prearranged to park in someone's yard, your search will take most...
Pros: Great Atmosphere. Cons: Bad Parking, cramped seating, no beer.
As a life long Hawkeye fan, I've gone to Kinnick Stadium twice. The first I barely remember, but it was about 8 years ago when I was about 14. I remember it took about an hour to get to Cedar Rapids from Iowa City. But that's about all I remember. Then I...
Pros: Great people with a great surrounding. Can't ask for much more... Cons: Parking, parking, and parking.
Kinnick Stadium has a great crowd (usually) and you feel like you are in an atmosphere that you can have fun in. The food at Kinnick Stadium is just like any other college stadium. It's dogs and the usuals. The prices aren't bad for a Hawkeye game....
Pros: Stands right on top of the field, close to the action. Beautiful and historic. Cons: Parking and traffic.
This beautiful stadium is undergoing a major renovation. The South endzone seats (the "county fair" seats) are the first thing to go. These seats were meant to be temporary, and should be much improved next season.
Next, I've sat in every section of this stadium in my life. I have never had a bad seat in all these years, and prefer Kinnick to any other football stadium (college or pro) I've been to. My current seats are on the 35 yard line, and are next to the student section. While the students stand the entire game and do block the view when the action gets near the North endzone, all you have to do is stand up. It's a football game, not an opera.
While parking and traffic are a headache, tailgating and meeting other fans (both Iowa and visiting) more than make up for any hassles.
Tickets can usually be had out on Melrose and the stadium parking lot.
A Cathedral to Football... More Improvements Coming by stormsenior05 ,Aug 11 '04
Pros: Good Football
Good Food
Good Fun! Cons: Old Stadium, seats tight.
construction till 2006.
Parking, ask someone who knows.
While not the biggest college football stadium in the world, it may be the loudest. Get a good team to play the Hawkeyes and over 70,000 people will show up to fill up every single seat. As a 75-year old stadium, it stands as a shrine to everything good about college football. The Hawkeye Marching Band is a proud addition to the atmosphere and ambience. Tailgating is among the best in the area! If you know where to park, it's not that bad and the food is pretty good, too.
Construction and improvements are ongoing until opening day 2006.
