Pros: Beautiful fields, friendly fans - and a helluva tailgate. Cons: No access to other scores, like other stadiums do.
There are classic college football stadiums, places where the gladiators of autumn have taken the field for time immemorial, creating legends as much as headlines. The Rose Bowl, granddaddy of them all; Notre Dame Stadium, home to ...
Pros: Tradition, great football played here Cons: Old, has some real nose-bleed seats
For these Georgia Bulldogs, whom many people picked at the outset to win the Southeastern Conference (SEC), there truly is no place like home. Sanford Stadium, located in the heart of the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia, is truly a sight...
Pros: Large jumbo-tron, over 85K seats, the new sky boxes are awesome, nothing beats the hedges... Cons: I wish there was a patio, kinda like Turner Field...
This stadium is a southern landmark. I've seen it go through so many changes and it just keeps getting bigger and better. From the sky boxes to down by the hedges, everything and anything can be heard, seen, and felt in this stadium... Know for it's...
Pros: the hedges Cons: fans, cramped, prices, seats
All I have ever heard about the Sanford is the view of the players playing between the hedges is awesome. I must disagree I went to a Clemson vs Georgia game and I had beer thrown at me, got cussed out (I was nine at the time), saw a college student try to start a fight with an eighty year old man, and saw two Georgia fans start at fight because one said that the qb sucked. I can understand why some of the fans fight because no of them went to the University of Georgia or no college at all. One of the worst experiences of my life going to Clemson away games. When I went to the restrooms, it was so crowded I waited the whole 15 minutes of halftime just to get to the toilet. Then they sold food at a high prices and expected me to buy a six dollar hotdog. The seats that Clemson gives to the away team's fans are on a few rows from the field, Georgia gives the away team's fans seats in the nosebleed section. Most be the worst stadium in the SEC
Beautiful Setting and Classy Fans by vikingman64 ,Jun 10 '04
Pros: Hedges are awesome - can walk around the field and watch the game. Cons: Too many fair-weather fans
I have had the pleasure of attending many football games here and must state I attended a rival SEC school.
On the whole, this is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had in watching a football game in an outdoor venue. While I like Neyland Stadium best for the overall atmosphere because of its size and fans, Sanford is tops in everything else from concessions, comfortable seating, and the hedges. You can also walk around the hedges by the field and watch the game - awesome!
Georgia fans are a pretty classy bunch as a rule. The students are a bunch of frat boy-type drunkards but usually their girlfriends keep them in check. The alumni have a GREAT tailgatting environment around the stadium and next to the historic graveyard by the Oconee River.
The only major criticism - too many Georgia fans give up on their team and leave the game usually by the middle of the 3rd quarter when losing. Visiting teams and fans own the stadium when the Dawgs are losing.
Sanford Stadium rocks the world! by skippyschlep ,May 24 '04
Pros: Location, fans, tradition, and of course... The Hedges! Cons: Limited restroom capacity, long concession lines, some nose-bleed seats.
If you have every been to a Georgia-Tennessee game in Athens, you know what I am talking about. For years, SEC fans (and some despicable ACC fans) have enjoyed the exciting atmosphere surrounding Georgia football on Fall Saturdays at Sanford Stadium. The stadium has undergone numerous improvements in recent years including an updated display screen and scoreboard, new entry ways and facilities, and additional seats and luxury boxes.
Sanford Stadium, with its rich tradition, beautiful campus setting, and tasteful improvements, is one of the premier venues in the country to enjoy genuine college football excitement.
