Pros: Awesome travel documentary series, takes you around the world to the places you are unlikely to visit on your own, entertaining, educational, interesting, exciting (and about a dozen other adjectives). Cons: Wishing I was there.
“In 1980, (actually, much earlier) an Australian bricklayer Alby Mangels walked away from his job into a life of adventure. Every weeknight the Travel Channel brings you the true story of one man’s quest to see the world. Break away with wild man...
Pros: funny host, covers entire USA, beautiful homes Cons: you need to be independently wealthy to rent one of the homes!
I thoroughly enjoy the TV show Great Vacation Homes, hosted by Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel. I found it by accident about a year ago while I was channel surfing one lazy Sunday morning. I was caught by the most magnificent home with incredible...
Pros: Travel tips, and exotic destinations Cons: Same commercials over and over again

Ever wonder what there is do in Australia, Africa or maybe even the Middle East. Want to go to a Dude Ranch someday but want to see what they have to offer before you go. This is what the travel channel is all about.
Pros: Interesting shows, knowledgeable and personable hosts Cons: Too many re-runs sometimes
I have been a Travel Channel subscriber for about six months now and I feel like I personally know the hosts of Lonely Planet. Ian, the funny British character, is the adventure seeker. He takes me to faraway places where the accommodations are...
Pros: Refreshing opposite from the rest of ordinary evening TV Cons: Somewhat too snappy - but always attractively filmed
Tired of sapping?
Now, the Travel Channel is one of the channels where you get stuck every second time sapping over it. Either you get caught by one of the funny aussie vocabs or some great views of some landscape you always thought "that must...
I love the travel channel.I will probably never get a chance to actually visit all of the places they show. But i do learn alot about them from this channel. This channel takes you anywhere from the sands of australia to the high class french society of...
It’s 4:00 in the afternoon on a rainy Tuesday. You called in sick from work … you feel as if a bus has hit you. As you flip through stations on the TV, something catches your eye. Unlike the useless garbage being chewed up and spit out at you on other...
Pros: The hosts have the best job in the world! Cons: We're not the hosts.
Am I getting old?
Nah...this isn't PBS. Well, its kinda PBS meets MTV. I'll admit it. Insomnia has been a lot more tolerable ever since my cable service added Discover Channel, the Learning Channel, and Animal Planet. But the newest...
Pros: Excellent Programing and hosts Cons: Some silly "extreme" style shows
Where else but on the Travel Channel can you, in just a few hours, discover the native delicacies of Japan, see the world's most exclusive hotel, and then see every attraction in Edmunton? For someone who loves travel but not the funds to do so, this is...
Pros: Travel anywhere from your couch Cons: can't afford most destinations
Have you ever dreamed of just dropping everything, packing your bags and taking off to explore exotic lands and diverse cultures? Only to wake up and realize that you don't have the time or the money. Well now thanks to the Travel Channel you can set...
Pros: Great variety of programming, from fantasy trips to places to go on your next vacation. Cons: Some shows are repeated a little too much
One of my favorite things in life is to travel. Of course, we don't have the money or the flexibility to travel wherever we want whenever we want, but I find the Travel Channel is a great way to escape to various destinations, and even help you plan...
Pros: culture, diversity, high quality shows, good travel deals, great hosts Cons: none
The Travel Channel is awesome. My mother and I could sit and watch it for hours a stretch, in fact we do. The Travel Channel has some high quality shows with very entertaining, interesting hosts.
Pros: Informative, entertaining, suitable for all ages, the ultimate in budget travel (it's free!), great source of ideas for personal vacations Cons: The infomercials in the middle of the night
I am a self-described travel junkie. I was bitten by that bug several years ago, and I don't apologize. However, my husband and I don't have the money to travel as much as we'd like, so I am completely in love with the Travel Channel. It is the...
Pros: Alby Mangells, Other People Willing To Eat Bugs and Tell About It Cons: Not enough Alby!
Professional traveller Alby Mangells is a womanizer, a drunk, a lunatic, an Australian, and an excellent travel guide. This man alone is reason to watch the Travel Channel nightly.
Here's a guy who went around the world on many voyages, back...
Pros: Good Selection of Shows Cons: Too Many Repeats
The Travel Channel is one of the best places on TV to go look for information about travel destinations. Several different show hosts take the viewer to destinations around the world. Not only can you see the destinations, you can learn about the best...
Pros: A Traveler's Dreams Realized Cons: Many of the pit falls left off of the camera
I am an avid traveler and a 21 year old female. I have completely fallen in love with one of the stars on the Travel Channel, Ian Wright. But that is completely irrelevant...
Ian Wright and his show, Lonely Planet (of travel book fame), are...
Pros: Weekly themes, informative Cons: Must have cable, occasional reruns
Planning a trip? Looking to go on a vacation? Simply need a getaway? Just want to see some exotic locations you may never get to, or even have already been to? The Travel Channel is for you!
Name a place, and the TC has done shows about it....
Pros: Variety, scenic shots Cons: routine after a few hrs.
Willie Nelson said it best, but this channel has it beat when all others fail. Sufi in depth coverage, tea 'n scones, and everything from your European vacation w/o Chevy Chase to a safari all at half hour intervals.
Pros: the concept of the network Cons: lack of variety
I am so incredibly frustrated by the lack of variety of travel shows on this network. If you are under 25, want to see ALL the beaches in the world, all the jungles, every mountain to climb, then this is the network for you. I think this coverage...
Pros: Exciting as well as Educational Cons: It' s only an hour long
If you are like me, and absolutely love to travel, than I recommend that you tune into Lonely Planet on the Travel Channel. I love to see the world, and have been blessed to see different countries. I wish I could be out there roaming around everyday,...
Pros: Occasionally, something of interest to travelers Cons: Too many "bikini" shows and too many repeats
Several months ago our cable company announced the addition of some new channels. The Travel Channel was one of them. My husband recently retired, and we love to travel. I envisioned programs that would show us destinations at home and abroad that...
Pros: The hosts don't just go to the tourist attractions; they take the off-beaten path. Cons: Not for the wealthy who want vacations where they will be pampered every step of the way.
Lonely Planet is a one hour program where you follow one of the Lonely Planet's hosts around at destinations all around the world. Lonely Planet is geared for you backpackers and other travellers out there who want to travel on a budget. So, the hosts...
Pros: Great Vacation Homes and Samantha Brown Cons: only know about two other shows on the channel
Where am I everday at 12:30 (eastern time)?? Well, I could be in the midwest United States, or on the beach in Mexico or lost in the woods. But wherever I am, you can count on these two things: 1. I've got a great tour guide, Samantha Brown and 2. I am...
Pros: Almost always interesting when you turn it on. Cons: Many shows are old, and some don't relate to real life.
The travel channel is really fun to watch sometimes. They've got a lot of great shows that follow people around living out adventures that most of us only dream of. I was watching a show the other day about these guys who just decided to kayak 2000...
This is my first attempt at writing an opinion,so don't be to hard on me. I call the Travel Channel, the rich folks network. Why? Cause I and all the people I know can only afford to watch it.********* My favorite programs to watch on the Travel Channel...
Pros: Funny, charismatic travel pal who'll try anything Cons: He's as cute and ugly as a bulldog. Ian only appears in one third of the shows and Justine is a bore
The show is called lonely planet and my favorite host is Ian. The guy is a total hoot and I can't imagine someone who'd be more fun on an adventure.
He's goofy, but knowledgeable and respectful of cultures. The people he visits seem to respect...
Pros: Great information Cons: Hosts can be annoying
Experience different vacation homes around the world. See foreign lands. Visit places you have always dreamed of. You can do all of this just by watching the Travel Channel. Turn on the channel, sit back and discover where you might end up...
Pros: Kind of interesting for awhile. Some of the ladies are nice, but they're usually quiet and it annoys me they like him. Cons: Alby and his huge ego, Not as educational as old nature shows. Alby emphasizes adventure and of course, himself
My first review of this character was more like a comment than a review. It was accurate, but on the request of another reader I will add a few thoughts.
First off. I kind of like Alby. He's got a new twist on the adventure, wildlife host....
Pros: Great interesting destinations covered. Cons: NONE!!!
If you love travel the cable channel is sure to become a favorite to you just as it is to me. The Travel channel contains programs dedicated to everything to do with travel.
Probably the best show is Lonley Planet where they showcase single...
Boring, uninspired programming by mllelarisa ,Oct 26 '03
Pros: Occasionally has useful information. Cons: Dumped quality, exciting shows like AdventureBound and LonelyPlanet for poker games & cooking shows.
Years ago I watched the Travel Channel all the time. I haven't been able to find anything interesting on the channel in ages. I can't figure out why on earth gambling and cooking shows are on a channel devoted to travel??? What crackhead thought to put poker tournaments on this channel???
Also, real people can relate to budget travel better than to "Travels of the Rich and Famous"... I much more enjoyed LONELY PLANET (with the fantastic Ian Wright) and ADVENTURE BOUND (with ultra cool Alby Mangels) than I ever do watching the booooooooring specials the channel makes itself ("World's Most Whatever Whatever")... the narrator's voice alone on all these shows annoys me.
I'm noticing that Discovery-owned channels tend to rerun rerun rerun ad nauseum. I would not mind as much if the endless repeats were at least interesting.
I enjoy a wee dose now and then of glamourous places but I'd really like to see practical travel information more often.
