tiny planes, big adventures
by kmarks81 ,Mar 13 '07
Pros: quick flight, get an entire can of diet coke Cons: you have to pay for everything and the stewardess' are lazy
It was my first trip on Alaskan this past week. It went pretty well, the staff was really friendly, and gave me the WHOLE can of diet coke instead of just a glass like everyone else. They even seemed suprised when i said thank you and told them all to have a good day. Apparently i have good manners. The downfall? I had to PAY for food if I wanted to eat while I flew across the country. No in-flight movie. No free food. Didn't even offer me a tissue as a I was bawling. But I guess that wasn't in their job description.

Reasonable airline
by jason_bourne ,Nov 25 '04
Pros: Reasonably new and clean planes. Good pilot skills in bad weather conditions. Cons: No lunch provided onboard.
Flew on this airline Seattle - Las Vegas. Although the weather was windy and bad most of the time the take off, flying and landing were very smooth. There was a delay of flight to Las Vegas but it was because of the weather conditions.
Although some people complained that some aircrafts of this company are old I did not notice that. I flew 737-400 and 737-900 and those planes were reasonably new (especially 737-900). I recommend that you check what plane is used for your flight and select only flights where 737's are used. Do not select flights with MD-80's as those are old planes.

Alaska airlines is the worst
by pcostello ,Jan 06 '06
Pros: free beer on every trip Cons: always late and suspect safety
I fly fairly frequently. Alaska is almost always late. I think their customer service is sub par and be very careful when volunteering to bump for a free ticket as they are very restrictive on when these can be used but when your volunteering they'll tell you what you want to hear.

Poo on you Alaska airlines!
by stacyswinney ,Sep 03 '06
Pros: Low prices Cons: Rude, dirty, and dangerous
Alaska Airlines is in the news every other day with reports of differing problems from anything to strange smells to air pressure malfunctions. Their planes are old, due to so many cutbacks, and I believe that they put the lives of there passengers in jeopardy.
They offer low prices because that is the only reason (not a very good reason) people would risk there lives to fly this airline.
On top of the grungy atmosphere, the flight attendants are so rude. If you have a problem with the service of a flight and are so upset that you write headquarters for some answers, they write back and say that there was not a problem, it must have been you. Not kidding. They do not even have comment cards or an address in which to send your comments.
Alaska airlines keeps in business due to their low prices, not for good service of good quality.

Horrible doesn't even begin to describe it
by classicangel ,Jan 08 '08
Pros: None Cons: Overcharge, verge of monopoly in Fairbanks, low "on-time" rate
I'm a soldier in the US Army stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. In my opinion, it's unfair that I am only allowed to use Alaska Air or an affiliate of the company, because I have to go home to Florida. Why does it cost almost three times as much to get to Seattle from Fairbanks as it does to get to Tampa to Seattle? And where else can you go? If that's not some form of a monopoly, I'm not sure what is. And I'd love to know where people get courteous service from. I got to spend over $600 for a flight I missed because of Alaska Air. After about 8 hours of fighting, I got $75 refunded to me.

A Great Airline!
by woohoo12345 ,Jun 30 '05
Pros: Great service, friendly workers, no delays Cons: NOTHING!!
My husband and I recently used Alaska Airlines to fly to Southern California, and the whole process was very pleasant. Of course, we purchased our tickets through cheaptickets.com, which maybe is the safest route to go these days, if phone lines are so busy.
I have to say that check-in was easy and the in air flight was absolutely great. I have no complaints at all. Our luggage came back without any worries. Alaska was a great airline to deal with.

POOR SERVICES
by tribble23 ,Jul 07 '05
Pros: None Cons: None
I just traveled with Alaska/Horizon airline yesterday from Eugene, OR. The airline's ground staff was very impolite and not professional that she should not be placed at the ticket counter. She left the customer standing at the counter in the middle of the conversation without any explanation and did not issue a boarding pass to the person. The customer had to go to Self Check-in Kiosk to retrieve her boarding pass. The customer was not able to get the pass from the automated system because the system redirected the customer back to the counter for further assistant. This incident demonstrate unprofessional of the airline staff.
I believe her name is Chrissie (I might have misspelled her name but as far as I know she is the only Chrissie works in Alaska/Horizon base in Eugene, OR)
Besides intermittent services, repetitive delayed schedules, and rude & non-professional staff, Alaska airline shows me no services improvement over the past six months.

FLY ALASKA-BE UNFAIRLY SEARCHED
by charlie27 ,Feb 04 '04
Pros: fast check-in for special security screenings Cons: Special passenger security screenings
Alaska Airlines has travelers who buy one-way tickets and last minute purchasers singled out for special screening by TSA. That means that one is pulled aside in front of all other passengers and having to "spread your legs," and arms out and then be searched. Open belt, take off shoes. All carry on, including your medicine vials and appliances, being searched in open.
TSA told me that Alaska routinely refers for searches those flying last minute because of family deaths or funerals (compassionate travel).
Flying Alaska to me means going through the indignity of an unwarranted search. Ironically, the boarding pass is denoted with "SSSS" at the bottom right. Alaska doesn't know what "SS" means; ask Nazi survivors what the SS did for the Fatherland.
On board service is mediocre and the MD-80's are the pits. Contact with passenger services in Seattle not worth the on-hold time (15-20 minutes)to speak to unsympathetic, robotic "supervisor."

Will never fly with Alaska Airlines again
by shm_ ,Mar 12 '04
Pros: Schedules are pretty good, planes are clean Cons: The security searches are skewed and appear discriminatory.
I've flown in and out of Portland with Alaska several times
and *everytime* I'd get picked with the SSSS on the
boarding card as someone else here has written.
Have started flying with United again and will
never fly Alaska.

Alaska Airlines
by stfal20 ,May 26 '09
Pros: Not too delayed. Cons: Worst customer service I have ever experienced with an airline.
Worst customer service that I have ever experienced with an airline. People were very unfriendly and seemed bored. They definitely seem to be pinching pennies at this point. I did not have a good experience with this airline and would never recommend anyone to take flights with them.

Great customer service
by cocktailparty ,Aug 17 '09
Pros: Great customer service Cons: nothing so far.
I booked the flights thru travelocity and it said seats are assigned at a gate. I am travelling with mom and she doesn't speak english. So i called and asked if we can at least send a request to be seated together. A little later, they told me that they assigned our seats nxt to each other. What a great customer service!!! In same situation, Delta said no and they didn't even consider at all.

poor service Horizon/Alaska airlines
by annaleise ,Mar 27 '09
Pros: easy to book on line Cons: customer service doesn't meet my requirements.
Horizon airlines (Alaska) cancelled an evening flight (11 p.m.) and offered no assistance in arranging transport to the destination - Seattle to Bellingham. I suspect flight was cancelled due to poor seat sales as only about 8 people were at the counters dealing with this problem. The airlines said "mechanical difficulties" but as our first leg 14 hours earlier told us the flight no longer existed somebody knew something but didn't try to fix it.
Horizon/Alaska even balked (first clerk, then supervisor) at giving a refund for a flight they weren't providing. I won't fly them again. Other better choices available.
