Stuck in Vegas for EIGHT HOURS by khendrickson ,Feb 02 '07
Pros: None, and thats sad. Cons: No apology, no comp and suck in an airport for 8 hrs!
Due to delays and some type of problem, I was suck in Las Vegas for eight hours. It was an American West airline but they are the same company. No comp was ever offered, not even an apology. The flight was to SFO which I could have drived there sooner.. They said if they couldnt fix the problem on the plane, we would have to rebook on a THURSDAY flight.. (it was Tuesday night!). They stated NO plane was leaving Vegas for the Bay Area (SFO, OAK, OR SJC) which I found.. a lie, since my mom found some flights online!! We finally made it to SFO at 2am, and should have arrived at 8pm. Never again America West/US Airlines!!
America West - Getting back on track by im4kcmo ,Feb 05 '05
Pros: Cheap airfares for people who don't care too much for extras such as food/headphones Cons: Their 737 seems a little outdated and small.
I recently flew on business from Denver International to Phoenix Sky Harbor. I have heard horror stories from the past about this airline but surprisingly both of my flights, in and out of Denver were 5 minutes ahead of schedule. Both ways the aircraft were only about 75% full and the flight attendants on the way back were very polite and nice. Can't say the same for the outbound flight attendants, they seemed to have a case of the morning blues... yet they weren't rude. For the price, and for how they have turned their service around with an 80% on time percentage as of 2004-2005... I will fly with them anytime.
Pros: Personable, friendly, accommodating Cons: Coach seats tend to be a little tight.
I am really surprised at the overall review on America West. We have never EVER had any issues with them.
In fact, we left Detroit Metro for Vegas back in Easter 2003 for a honeymoon. We had coach tickets, but once they found out we had just gotten married, we were upgraded at no charge to first-class. We were flattered and really...all of the staff of America West we encountered had been really friendly, personable, and helpful.
We had one delay leaving Vegas, but I am going to take a guess that happens on ANY airline for various reasons.
When we got back home, I sent email to America West headquarters explaining our experience..especially at Detroit Metro. They sent email back expressing their appreciation and told us they would put a copy of the email in each mentioned employee's personnel file. I thought THAT was great!
Does what an airline should by rsbloch ,Dec 06 '04
Pros: Ease of purchasing tickets online. Flights on-time. Personnel were helpful and friendly. Cons: Minor computer glitch when printing boarding pass during online check-in.
My recent round-trip from Monterey (CA) to Denver on America West was the best kind: uneventful and on-time. I bought my ticket directly from them, online, after comparing prices and schedules with other airlines using PriceLine and Expedia. Using America West's web purchase, flight schedule, and seat selection is convenient and easy--and the online check-in feature is great. Each leg of the flight left and arrived on-time, the planes were clean, the air crew was courteous, and the staff at the airport (where I checked my luggage) was friendly and helpful. I will definitely use America West again.
I had tickets for a business trip originating in Houston, stopping in Phoenix with a final destination of John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California and returning to Houston in the reverse way. From Houston to Phoenix I was told upon check-in that I was being transferred to Continental Airlines (the short notice of my Continental ticket may have been the reason I was sent to the special security line where the wanna-be-cops are) because the America West plane had a mechanical problem before leaving the previous city. This was standard for all flight segments. On the way back while in Phoenix coming to Houston, half of the passengers boarded the plane. I was not in that half. I was in the terminal watching mechanics work in one of the engines. The passengers already on board were not told the reason for the delay and they sat in the plane for 1.5 hours.
The plane was repaired and ready to fly at the same time another plane for available. So they deplaned the boarded passengers and we all got on another plane. Unbelievable!
This is the epitome of failure by slow329793 ,Feb 21 '06
Pros: none. Cons: the entire America West system is horrible.
I was traveling to San Francisco. I got bumped from my connector in Phoenix because my flight was too late to maket the connector - ok, this happens.
On my return, my flight from Sacramento, CA, to Phoenix got changed - they inserted a layover in Las Vegas. We were on the ground so long that we missed my connector in Phoenix again! I had to wait 8 hours this time in Phoenix airport.
I'm very worried about my final return home flight. I have to go through Phoenix again. I know I'll probably be stuck.
This airline sucks for lack of a better term. It is a horrible waste of time. It's not worth a cheaper fare.
NEVER FLY US AIRWAYS/AMERICA WEST by Kingramir ,May 04 '07
Pros: none Cons: Old planes with lots of mechanical problems, delays, no connecting flights, customer service, and rude.
Due to mechanical tail problems that could have been fixed an hour early, we had to wait one hour to depart. Then we missed out connecting flight because of this and were told the plane would wait for the 7 of us connecting. It did not! We had to wait 7 hour in Phoenix airport for our next flight. We were given first class seat which then they told us to move to coach in a rude manner. we were discriminated against since we look Hispanic (lightly tanned skin)and only the 4 Hispanics waited 7 hours while others give preferential treatment and sent to their destination on an earlier flight.
America's Worst is more like it... by onepeople ,May 04 '04
Pros: Arrived in one piece, clean planes Cons: Hope you don't have any connections or people picking you up at the airport
Hour-long delay out of Boston, almost missed our Phoenix connection. Two-hour delay out of Sacramento, DID miss our Phoenix connection, had to be put on another flight to Las Vegas, got home 2 hours late.
To the person at the desk when our flight was changed: Could you be any meaner?
The hub of this airline is Phoenix, so I do not understand the delays. Weather was not a problem.
I don't care about the lack of food service, but, gee, can I at least have a whole can of soda?
At least the plane was clean and fairly new.
Never again, live and learn.....
Rude Flight Attendant/Lost Baggage. by caelex ,Dec 09 '04
Pros: It was on time. Cons: Rude flight attendant, lost luggage, poor attitude and customer service. Miserable experience.
Our flight was not full and there was no one in First Class. We had someone sitting in our row (he wouldn't move, despite the plane being half empty) and my husband politely asked the attendant if we could sit in first class.
Now, I realize that they probably get asked this ALL THE TIME, but all she had to do was say no. Instead she starts in about how she "knows a good doctor" for him (I guess meaning he's crazy for asking) and goes on and on about how they can't choose between "all these special people". It was really, really, really rude and she kept it up throughout the whole flight. She kept talking to him about her "first class service" and it bordered on harrassment. Maybe she was trying to be funny but I didn't see the humor.
Then when we got to Las Vegas, they lost our baggage and it was a huge hassle to get it back.
America West basically ruined our vacation. I wish I could get my $1500 back. I will NEVER fly them again.
America West Needs an overhaul on customer service by yvohen ,Sep 12 '05
Pros: I cannot see any Pros at this time. Cons: All aspects of this company are Cons. They are seldom on time. And lose luggage.
This company in general should be put out of its misery. They are not customer friendly and very blatant about non help to their PAYING customers. Their representatives should ALL lose their luggage and have to deal with themselves and then they will see what a horrible bunch of people to deal with. A lost piece of luggage means nothing to them other than the fact it is a pain to them to do the paperwork. All of the people I have encountered the last five times I have flown with that company continually reminds me why there is a saying among frequent travels not America West but America Worst. I do think I believe it now. I am not sure about what a consumer can do to improve a company that continually proves it does not want business.
Pros: None. Zero. Cons: The worst airline in the United States.
Domestic air travel is generally just bad regardless of which carrier is providing it, but America West takes poor service to new levels. I don't believe this incompetent airline has ever had a flight depart on time. Despite years of service between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, they are incapable of smoothly traveling between these two cities. Every person I know, myself included, who has flown via this horrid airline from Los Angeles to Los Vegas has experienced at least an hour and a half delay. How can you have an hour and a half delay on a 45 minute flight? What's worse is that the delays are only a part of the pain. I have yet to fly on this airline without being moved from one gate to another. These aren't short moves either. They're usually half a terminal or more. Seriously, pay the extra $20. Heck, pay an extra $50. Do not use this airline.
Good Luck if you need a wheelchair by babs7262 ,Mar 03 '05
Pros: price, plenty of flights Cons: customer service
I fly a few times a year for pleasure. I traveled from Philadelphia to Las Vegas in September. First, I must admit I used the airline that previous April with no problem. Back to September...First of all, the flight was delayed in Philadelphia for almost 2 hours. Coming home was a different story. I had a connection in Phoenix. I requested wheelchair service because I have a disability and sometimes required one from time to time. I called the day before my flight, it was marked in the computer, yet when I arrived there was no wheelchair. I inquired about it and got no service. Just an "oh well, sorry" Unfortunately, I can't talk further about this because I have an attorney. Also, I asked for an upgrade and they couldn't accommodate me, even though when I got on the plane, there was an empty seat in first class. The plane arrived safely and I guess that can be good enough to some people but, I was in pain because of not getting the service I needed
Always too late, long waiting times, ZERO service by dodito ,Nov 23 '05
Pros: I wouldn't know Cons: the worst. Always late, connecting flights missed, arrival at 2:30. They lie
My Girlfriend had to fly from San Francisco to Denver through Las Vegas. They are always late, but assured us that 30 minutes time in between flights is not a problem.. they would wait... well it didn't happen. Now she has to wait hours, and there is one late flight arriving at 2:30 in the night. No service, no extras no hotel, not even a drink, they were rude and indifferent.
Something similar happened to me. They lie to you with regards to new departure times, crews did not show up, plane had to be replaced etc.
I flew on the airline in April of 2005 and will be my last. Flight was uncomfortable, late and customer service was HORRIBLE. I have allergy to peaunts, and notified airline weeks before and day before flight. They said none would be served, but when i was on flight, they were everywehre...had to breath into my shirt for 3 hours, almost had reaction. Plane was extremly cramped, attendants were rude.
Pros: Cheap, nonstops from LA/SF to BOS/NY Cons: REALLY bare bones service, bait & switch seating.
Our Flight 305 from BOS-SFO yesterday was awful. The seat assignment page on their website was set up for an Airbus 320 but they flew a 319. Consequently the mid-aircraft Row 22 seats we selected were actually the non-reclining lavoratory-adjacent back row. My wife spent the entire flight hunched over her seat with an air sickness bag in her lap. My three year old son arrived home with a neckache because the arm rest doesn't raise in the back row.
I was attracted by the good fare ($300) for non-stop service but I'll be very leery of using these guys again. In SFO they enforced the 50# weight limit on our bag ($50 surcharge) though this was not happening to anyone on the return flight. On the plus side they were on time and the dedicated security line in BOS at gates B37/B38 was much shorter than for other gates used by the main carriers.
Net: If you fly, double check your seating and make sure your bags are under 50#s. Also, bring your own meal. It'll be better and cheaper than what they sell on board.
