Worst Flight Worst Staff
by henry1972 ,Apr 29 '09
Pros: no pros Cons: Bad Staff, no value for customer's time
AA is the worst flight I have ever taken, the staff is non cooperating and rude. I had an issue with my delayed baggage which included a car seat for my kid and the staff simply refused to listen, the staff at baggage claim center of AA was a contracting company which was very rude to costumers and asked me to take my infant in the car without car seat as they dont have any spare car seat or wait for next flight to arrive which might bring my baggage and was about 8 hrs from that time .... When I raised my voice and asked why should I suffer because of the mistake that AA made, they called the police and started shouting at me .... I would never never ever travel by this airline even if they give a free ticket as they dont have any respect for the customer, they dont understand the problem customer faces because of thier mistakes and have contractors who can say anything to the customer...

Customer No Service....buyer beware
by atlaslm ,Dec 28 '05
Pros: website to get seats is good Cons: false information and incredible No-customer service
Had a scheduling problem. AA said for a few hundred bucks they could get me a later flight and I could exchange the unused tickets as long as used within one year.
After many phone transfers and repeating my story, needless to say now, they are telling me they cannot exchange them and I'm out the $. The initial person who conned me into the change has no accountability and I'm out hundreds!
This is theft by anyones definition.
Their only response was that they, Refund then exchange dept.; could only forward us to the customer relations. I asked for the number to call.
Well guess what? there is no number. They only take emails, snail mail. How incredibly convenient.
Think twice, 3 times, really hard, before using them.

Bring your earplugs when flight attendants around
by paveldurak ,Jan 01 '06
Pros: It takes off and lands Cons: Company attitude toward paying customers.
My wife and I boarded a flight from LA to Dallas only to find a passenger two seats in front with a bird of some sort in a box under her seat. Every 90 seconds the poultry let out a loud screech. In addition, American hammers you with an ad for the inflight pay for view film. The speaker was right over my wife's head and the volume was enough to wake J. Edgar Tutu. When my wife attempted to ask a flight attendant if the gratuitous noise level could be reduced, the attendant replied "Everybody has something to complain about. Just learn to live with it" and walked off. The 4 passengers around noted this American Airline customer relations attitude as outstanding. Since the attendants no longer wear name tags, I asked 3 different attendants for that person's name. I was ignored each time. We no longer fly American. Staff in my company are free to fly American (about 35 flights annually) but know they will not be reimbursed. So far none have bothered with American.

The Worst Customer Service = American Airlines
by sfnewmexico ,Jun 20 '04
Pros: None Cons: AA will sell you non-refundable tickets on flights that are oversold!
I fly for business approximately 2-3 weeks a month. Recently I booked a ticket online with American Airlines. The ticket was purchased electronically yet came back with a non-confirmed seat.
I called AA to find out what this meant and was told " we can not guarantee you a seat at this time, but don't worry a seat may open up if someone cancels...". This did not work for me since I had an imporatnt meeting that could not be missed. The catch is that the ticket was non-refundable!
American Airlines will over-sell you a non-refundable on a plane does not have seats available for reservation!
When I called 2 minutes after booking online, I was told by their customer service "tough luck, you should not have bought a non-refundable ticket". Called their supervisor and told the same thing, rudely I must also say!
Now I have a $1000 ticket and no guarantee. I was able to buy a guaranteed seat, fully refundable, on a Southwest Airlines for $400. Wow!
American Airlines is the worst I have ever seen. They should lose their business license alone based on their customer "service". Rude.

No problem solvers at AA
by parker269 ,Jun 16 '06
Pros: Couldn't find any Cons: Only airline to many destinations out of DFW - Can you say Southwest?
I found the employees at AA in DFW very rude, hostile, and insulting. They cannot, or will not, problem solve. I missed a flight and was told that they had "no idea" how to get me to my destination since the rest of the flights that day were booked. I could buy a full fare ticket to a different destination, or stand by for days, since they did not see that route opening up anytime soon.

American Airlines - Really is something special in the air
by travelair024 ,Apr 22 '04
Pros: Mostly everything Cons: Occasionally late, occasional turbulence (nothing that is the airlines fault)
From my many airplane experiences American Airlines is by far the most reliable airline. The staff is very friendly and the policies are completely fair unlike other airlines (Southwest). The seats are comfortable and there is extra legroom and the airplanes as a whole are clean and classy. I have never been disappointed by this airline and I definatley recommend it to anyone that wanted a good flight. Even though you can get cheaper tickets on other airlines (Southwest) I would rather pay more and have a good quality flight and I'm sure almost everyone else would too.

they nickle and dime you!
by sbecker63 ,Jul 16 '09
Pros: Pretty much nothing. Cons: There's a fee for pretty much everything!
My husband and I are traveling overseas for our first time, and I have to say AA has already made this trip unpleasant! We booked our airline tickets on the internet about 2 weeks ago, reserved our seats (even got a confirmation with our seat numbers that we had picked) just to find out on out on our own that they kicked us out of them! When we called to see what happend, they charged us $30 for reserving new seats and they are terrible ones! This will definitely be our last time flying them!

American Robbers Airline
by dallas_bidder ,Jul 08 '09
Pros: None. Cons: Rude Staff & cabin crew, Unpforssional ticekting agents, Customer unfriendly, too expensive.
I repeatedly had the most frustating experiences with American Airline. In various experiences I realize that they leave no opportunity to exploit customers where ever they can. They issue you vouchers and then put severe restrictions on their use.
I bought an international ticket for my family on AA.COM where they guarantee the lowest fair. After 2 weeks, fair on the same site for exact same dates and sector dropped $ 200 each ticket. When I called up AA, they told me change fee on this ticket is $ 250. So if I want to get $ 200, I need to pay them $ 250 before they pay me $ 200. I ended up paying $ 1800 for an international ticket for which other sites sold the same day exact same flights of American $ 500 cheaper. On return due to emergency, we had to change the tickets and we ended up paying additional $ 750 for 2 tickets.
I compare them with Robbers who would take advantage of your situation where ever they can. They are ready to suck your blood till you die.

Terrible Customer Seervice!
by ferretzz ,Dec 19 '08
Pros: None Cons: Lack of adequate personnel for check in, customer service is terrible
As recommended, I arrived at airport more than 90 minutes before flight. Because of inadequate airline personnel and long lines, it took 40 minutes to reach the check in counter only to be told I could not check in because it was 58 minutes until the flight and cut off was one hour. Nothing on ticket or web site indicated that... only that I needed to be at airport 90 minutes before flight. Customer service was NOT helpful, they clearly did not want to be bothered. Finally after some fussing I was allowed to switch to another flight 2 days later, but was charged $50 fee. In the future I will definitely try to fly a different airline!

Airline No Longer Cares About Service
by mshsooner ,Sep 03 '09
Pros: none Cons: Run like a large government agency; not a private company. Bad corporate leadership.
Recently an American Airlines flight full of passengers sat on the ground in New York for over 7 hours due to weather delays. Passengers were not allowed to exit the plane. When Dallas/Fort Worth news crews asked a PR representaive about the incident, the representative stated "we followed our procedure and didn't do anything wrong". It's unbelievable that a private company, who supposedly cares about customer service, would not even apologize for the incident, or mention that they would review their policies.
Two of the last three times that I have flown AA this year, my flight was cancelled within 24 hours before scheduled departure.
Despite the fact that DFW is a hub for AA, I will try my best to use other airlines whenever possible.
Southwest is the last customer focused airline.

American Airlines is an Abomination to the Industry
by tonystewart ,Aug 06 '09
Pros: Offered a direct fight from Richmond VA to Dallas Ft. Worth Airport Cons: Unethical business practices, rude, unprofessional, expensive
Our first encounter with American Airlines will now become our last. We found the entire process to be full of mis quotes of air fares to extremely unprofessional behavior by the entire airport staff. The gate attendant refused entry to our daughter who was 2 minutes late and even though the flight staff indicated the pilot was waiting for her, the gate attendant refused to allow her on the plane and cursed at us as we tried to plead with him. The electronic bulletin board indicated that BOARDING was still in progress. As a result of this, we were forced to pay and additonal $150 for a rescheduled flight. Check in staff were rude, unsympathetic and appeard to only want to extort as much money from us as possible. Please consider Jet Blu or Air Tran as they are ALWAYS courteous and helpful. AA will simply take your money and take you for a ride.

Not so great
by bpsamp01 ,May 26 '09
Pros: They are generally on time for the leg I fly on a regular basis. Cons: Hidden fees. No full disclosure.
American is not up front about hidden fees. For example, there is nothing obvious after a good deal of search on their website that indicates they will cancel your reservation if you do not show up for the first leg of the trip. Doing so requires a change fee of $150.
Secondly, they are less than up front about restrictions on travel vouchers. They promise that you can use them for future travel when offering them, but just try to use them. There are many, many, many restrictions they don't bother mentioning at the gate, and they make them very difficult to use by requiring you to hold reservations and then making a trip to the airport to actually redeem the vouchers. If you try to avoid this by booking over the phone, they deduct $20 for each reservation.
Finally, their international service is horrible. Pay, pay, pay for every in-flight service. The European carriers don't do this. My advice for international is avoid all the American carriers and fly the international carriers.

by comparably ,Jul 11 '09

By far the best airline in the United States, but still nothing to write home about. Their Mileage program and customer service is so much better than United
