Pros: Many ways to earn miles, free perks (miles and other items). Cons: Limited seats/flights for AAdvantage, and miles expire abruptly, treacherous rules, complicated, American Airlines.
Summary: The AAdvantage program is the frequent flyer program for American Airlines. I've been a member of the AAdvantage program for decades and I have an on-line account as well (http://www.aa.com/aadvantage)

Pros: Options for keeping miles active, several choices of partner companies to earn miles. Cons: Airline itself could be better. Expensive to purchase miles if you are short.
Summary: When I lived in the Chicago area, the two primary carriers I used were United and American. After American lost my luggage a couple of times, I swore them off. After moving to South Carolina, I became a fan of Delta Airlines, which serviced ... read more

Pros: There are many ways to accumulate miles. Cons: We have always been "lower-class" citizens when using miles.
Summary: We were some of the travelers to get "ash-trapped" by the Iceland volcano in April of 2010 that stopped all Atlantic air travel. While the airlines can't control natural disasters, they can absolutely affect how they handle passengers. We used AA miles ... read more

Pros: None that I can think of. Cons: None. There are HIDDEN blackout dates that they refuse to acknowledge. FRAUD.
Summary: American Airlines AAdvantage program is designed solely so that they can take advantage of every situation and leave you with nothing. I tried to cash in 30K miles for 4 days' car rental; the redemption certificate was offered (the miles gone), and ... read more

Pros: You can earn miles through lots of activities. Cons: Miles can expire, and you need at least 25,000 for a free flight.
Summary: Overall, I found it easier to get more miles for items other than just flights than some other rewards programs, such as Northwest Airlines Worldperks, Delta Sky Miles, and United Airlines Frequent Flyer Program. By items, I mean stuff you can buy ... read more

Pros: Early boarding. Cons: Nearly impossible to get an upgrade, Y-ups cheaper on other airlines
Summary: If you are a frequent traveler that cannot plan 6 months in advance you can forget about AAdvantage now. The upgrade policy has been changed to hand out upgrades (within status level) to the first request. Sounds fair except the upgrades go to the guy ... read more

Pros: 1 free flight, elite status Cons: 50 flights to get one free flight
Summary: Well I think this is a valuable service but the facts remain that 25000 miles gets a domestic flight and 30000 gets an international flight. I got into the program because it is a win-win situation. If you do not fly American you do not get the miles ... read more

Pros: Numerous ways to earn miles Cons: limited flight schedule if not VERY flexible.

Pros: A lot of US flights and options to earn miles with non-airline partners Cons: Weak airline partners, limited international travel, very hard to find a rewards ticket.
Summary: I love to write about airlines. Flying a plane is a thrill for me and I always look forward to it. This year I flew over 80 different planes and collected Medallions from AA, Delta and will soon get one from Alaska. But one thing bothers me more and more ... read more
