Poor luggage service
by pinepine ,Nov 02 '05
Pros: I arrived safely at my destination. Cons: My luggage did not.
Long story short, they mis-tagged my bag at check-in due to the incompetence of the check-in counter person so it went to the wrong destination. Then they never communicated regarding efforts to get it to me, I had to chase after them. Granted, it's their business decision to make on whether to hire cheap help at the expense of quality and service. Whoever has low rates will always have customers. I'm just saying be prepared to be separated from your luggage and make sure you carry on everything you'll need for the first few days after landing.

World Perks is Broken; Northwest Losing Customers
by vernalpool ,Mar 30 '09
Pros: Convenience (geographically based) Phone agents are often pleasant Cons: Redeeming WorldPerks miles Toll-free phone line for WorldPerks Website
It's convenient for me to fly Northwest, so I have accumulated some miles in the rewards system. I have had nothing but irritation trying to redeem the miles. The website has serious flaws (I was glad to see other reviewers had trouble with it, and not just me) and the phone system is a special kind of hell. It's very disappointing to go through the process of speaking into the robot phone, identifying yourself, your number, your needs, then the "busy high call volume" message comes on and they will not take your call, but advise you to call later. This is the kind of customer service situation that drives away paying customers. I will be trying to sign up for any physical prize or award gift they can send me; I will not be wasting my time trying to redeem flight miles again in the future. I may fly NWA again because it's convenient, but I will certainly not choose them out of "loyalty." Ironically, these awards programs were designed to increase customer loyalty, not to annoy and mistreat the current customer base.

Northwest has always been good
by nwafan20 ,Jun 17 '06
Pros: Great service, Detroit terminal nice, good planes Cons: a senior flight crew can be cranky, no TV's on domestic flights.
I have never had a problem with Northwest Airlines. They have always had friendly service and get you to your destination on time. The World Gateway terminal at Detroit is AWESOME! It is fancy and Northwest paid for almost all of it by themselves.

the customer should have known
by xymn ,Dec 09 '04
Pros: none Cons: lips service to customer relation.
NWA charged a $50 fee for changing an upgrade, something that the NWA ticketing agent did not remind me. US customs broke the lock on my luggage. NWA check-in agent did not advise me to leave my luggage unlocked. In both instances, NWA claimed that it has no obligation to remind or advise. NWA argues that I should have known. I argue that NWA should have advised and reminded.

HAVING CANCER ISN'T BAD ENOUGH
by notpatricia ,Jun 15 '06
Pros: Left/arrived at a decent hour; only one stop. Cons: Cancelled due to health; Northwest wouldn't credit my $100. rebooking fee.
After a recent health diagnosis, I had to cancel trips with two airlines - Northwest and United. United easily and promptly gave me a $100. certificate to cover the rebooking fee. Northwest refused, citing its need to treat all customers equitably and protect its fare structure. Northwest knows a lot about equitable treatment, as that is exactly what it is not getting under its bankruptcy claim. It gets to put aside all debt and make money, unlike airlines that are not in bankruptcy, who actually have to pay their debts. Northwest again? HAH. And this is after protracted correspondence, which Northwest ended by hoping I'll show confidence in them in the future.

Northworst Airlines lives up to its reputation
by audress ,Mar 08 '07
Pros: Not much.. Cons: Flight cancellations
I just returned from a weekend trip and have experienced my first and last flight with Northwest Airlines. On the day of my trip, I checked my flight and learned that it was canceled. I received no prior notification of this, despite their having my contact information. I spoke with a Northwest ticket agent who was of little help. I hung up and called Expedia. They were able to resolve the issue and proceeded to inform my that my return flight on Northwest was canceled as well. Good thing I had extra vacation time that I could devote to flying on this pathetic excuse for an airline. I never thought that I would pay to be held hostage...

Would Rather Walk
by oregon_bill ,Dec 30 '03
Pros: None Cons: Would rather stick a fork in my eye than fly NWA
I have flown Northwest numerous times. While I am not impressed with the lackluster service provided by other large carriers (especially United) I can safely say that I would rather spend twice the money and/or fly for up to 5 hours more than take this sorry excuse for an airline again. Their employees are rude, and seem to take pleasure in screwing their customers in every way imaginable. If it weren't for their monopolistic hold on the MSP region's airport, there is no way these folks would ever be in business,

Unauthorized Charging to My Credit Card
by jjf619 ,Feb 23 '09
Pros: There is something good to say about Northwest Airlines?????? Cons: Unauthorized charging to credit card Delays
I will never ever fly Northwest Airlines again! They made unauthorized charges to my credit card of $80 and $165 and won't refund them. The $80 was a $20 per ticket fee they charged me without telling me for making my reservations over the phone. I had to do it that way because I had a voucher and also was flying with 2 young children and needed to make sure we were all sitting together. I was NEVER informed of a fee for this. Then, they charged me $165 that I did not find out about until I got my credit card statement. It had to do with luggage. The most I should have been charged per their terms and conditions was $70. They will not even explain why I was charged $165. They only responded (in a letter, as you can't reach the department that handles baggage over the phone) that luggage issues needed to be handled at the airport. I had NO IDEA I was going to be charged $165 when I checked my luggage in or I would have handled it there. I used the kiosk and authorized a $15 charge. BEWARE!

Terrible customer service
by lovetotravel73 ,May 12 '09
Pros: Non Cons: Customer service
On our flight to Honolulu, our connecting flight was late. NWA knew we were a little late but closed the gate door on us 10 minutes before the flight time. We arrived 9 minutes before and could see them close the door. They refused to let us on. They told us to take it up with Alaska because their flight was late and it was their problem.
On the return flight, they did not book us in seats together despite having empty rows that they were trying to sell just before the flight.
After sending in a complaint letter, they offered a pathetic $50 voucher.
