Pros: Great ports, good food, good service Cons: Some small cons - read review
We took a Celebrity Cruise to Alaska the last week in August 2006. Our ship was the Mercury and our itinerary included Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan in Alaska. We also cruised by the Hubbard Glacier and down the Inside Passage. THE SHIP OVERALL ...
Pros: A wonderful vacation, enjoyable ports of call. Cons: No dinner buffet on the Coastal Cruise, Butler service wasn't.
For most middle-class working families, the thought of an affordable first class trip indulgence sounds wonderful on paper. Booking: We used Cruises Only to book our California Coastal trip on Celebrity's Mercury. This agency ...
Pros: A great introduction to the inside passage. Cons: None
I have come to the conclusion that there are two types of cruisers out there; people who book cruises more for the ship and cruise experience than the ports of call, and those who primarily base their decision less on the ship and MORE on which ports of ...
Pros: Unbelieveable Service, Good Entertainment and Food Cons: Lack of Activities and Squeaky Ship
My wife and I took a late June 7-day cruise on the Celebrity Mercury to Alaska, leaving through Vancouver. This was our fifth cruise, so I have something to compare to, when giving some of my opinions. I'll give a rundown on, what I consider, the most...
Pros: Outstanding food and service, friendly staff, attention to detail! Cons: Our stomachs were not big enough, it was too short!
Overview
This was my third voyage on a Celebrity ship (I had been on the Meridian and Horizon about 10 years ago), but my husband's first (he had only been on Carnival ships before). I had high expectations, as my two previous cruises with...
Pros: Wonderful, relaxing, pampered vacation. Highly recommended. Cons: It costs money to drink soda.
My husband and I took our first cruise on the Celebrity Mercury. My parents are frequent cruisers and were recommending a cruise vacation to us for a while now. My husband and I were a little skeptical. We had the usual apprehensions about cruising...
Pros: Food and Sky Suite and our cabin deck Cons: not enough time at ports, exursions highly priced & paying for alcohol sucks
My husband and I took our honeymoon on the Royal Caribbean "Rhapsody of the Seas" several years ago. We decided to go on a cruise again, but this time to a colder climate...Alaska. We chose Celebrity because of it's high rating and it's outstanding ...
Pros: The staff & the food Cons: Three formal dinners, similarity in shore activities, closet "stateroom."
This, our third cruise in fifteen years, was our first aboard a Celebrity ship. The other two (Holland America and Royal Caribbean) had been what you might call "eye-openers." I'd always resisted cruises on the basis that they go nowhere and ...
M/V MERCURY: THE DEFINITIVE REVIEW Note: Ratings assigned as follows for services listed at end of review… POOR – Far below expectations and not acceptable BELOW AVERAGE – Did not meet expectations AVERAGE – Meets expectations, but not out of the ...
Pros: Marvelous service, beautiful ship, mostly good food Cons: As usual -- we had to go home.
My wife and I took the Celebrity Mercury round trip from San Francisco on May 17, 2004. We cruise fairly often and had previously taken two cruises on Celebrity (Millinneum and Constellation), but this was our first time on a Century-class ship. We had ...
Pros: The ports of call and the overall cleanliness of the ship. Cons: The food! not as advertised. And being overrun with children.
I booked a outside stateroom (8220) on the Celebrity Mercury on the 8th deck, Panorama. It was the last outside cabin available, the ship was 110% booked, hence the title of my article. There were 460 children aboard (!). This cruise looked good because ...
Pros: Pampering, good food, spectacular shows, and AWESOME scenery! Cons: Daily activities were, well, uninteresting, felt we were nickel & dimed to death.
We went on the Mercury in the last week of May, 2001 for an Alaska cruise.
Perhaps I just expected too much after reading all the other e-pinions, but I was a little disappointed. It was still great, mind you, but I was surprised the first...
Pros: Great shower. Plenty of deck room. The comfort of the Celebrity theater. Elevators take no more than 30 seconds to arrive. No blaring announcements. No theme nights. No waiters dancing with food on their heads. Cons: The pools and hot tubs close every night at 7:00pm. Shipboard shops are boring. There was only one half hour each day in which NO FOOD was served anywhere!
The Mercury is beautiful, but not glitzy and overstated. It does not feel like you are on a megaship, and rarely did we experience crowds. The staff and crew were warm, cordial and very helpful throughout the cruise. Our stateroom was very well...
Pros: Magnificent food, great crew, scenery, drinks, ALASKA, shuffleboard Cons: price (sometimes), small room, TOO SHORT OF A TIME!!!
We began looking for a vacation to take with our family to celebrate me and my wife's 25th Anniversary. We wanted something special and something we could remember. I was consulting with a woman in our Corporate Travel office at work and she said when ...
Pros: The food and service was excellent Cons: It was a bit pricy
During the 1999 Spring Break, I went on the Celebrity Mercury cruise ship. We were scheduled for two days at sea, and to stop at the Grand Caymans, Calica, Cozumel, and Key West. We departed From Ft. Lauderdale.
Pros: the food, the food, and the food Cons: excursions
We took the Celebrity Mercury in October 1998 on a Western Caribbean itinerary (Key West, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Grand Cayman). With airfare it was around $1100 per person.
This was our first cruise and it exceeded our expectations!...
Pros: service Cons: children not monitored in discotheque

Pros: Friendly staff, beautiful ship Cons: lack of pampering, lack of dining options, lack of transportation to the advertised ports.
My husband and I cruised on the Mercury for the Oct . 31 sailing date along with two of our friends. We are frequent cruisers and have taken advantage of several lines including Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Lines. We...
I went on the M/V Mercury for a southbound Alaskan cruise from Seward to Vancouver in July of 2000. This was the first time that I've been on a cruise along with six other family members. To sum it up, it was great.
Pros: cuisine, ship's decor Cons: port stops too short
This was my second cruise, taken a year after cruising on Celebrity's Galaxy. While it was still a nice time, it really didn't compare to our experience on Galaxy, in terms of the ship or the ports.
Pros: Great destinations, something for everyone Cons: Upfront price, but in the long run it is worth it
My mom and I went on a cruise recently aboard the Mercury, leaving from Ft. Lauderdale Florida. We had been on one cruise years before through Royal Caribbean, which is hard to beat. And although Celebrity didn't quite beat them, they are a very close...
Pros: food in formal dining room, cleanliness Cons: food elsewhere, customer service, children under 3
We paid an extra $500 to bring our 1 year old. They were only to provide a crib and high chair (no food, no bedding, no diapers). The crib presented to us did not meet any US safety standards. My son's head could fit through the bars. We opted to...
My husband and I have cruised approximately 5 times and we can honestly say that this was one of our most enjoyable cruises that we have taken. We had to fly into San Diego from the East Coast but Celebrity arranged our flights and transfers. They met us ...
Pros: Great personalized service, fantastic food, good shows, good excursions, great value for money! Cons: Ports cut short by cruiseline, drinks expensive!
Our trip started in Kentucky and we flew into Seattle. We (my husband and I) arrived in Seattle around 11AM local and took a cab to the pier. Celebrity's pier 66 is wonderfully located right in the downtown area. The cab fare with tip was $35. ...
Pros: overall amenities, excursions, concierge class stateroom, stateroom attendant, and service at dinner. Cons: pictures are ridiculously expensive, service at open seatings and buffets is less attentive
We just returned from our honeymoon to Alaska on the Celebrity Mercury. It was in a word - fabulous! Our stateroom was "Concierge Class" and included a veranda. The "Concierge Class" status let us skip the entire line for embarkation. Our room ...
Pros: Classy and great service. Cons: Spa classes and seminars were a bit lame.
This was our first cruise and we didn't expect much. We were very pleasantly surprised. Check-in was a breeze. We got there about 2:15 and were in our stateroom (after having to get assigned our "Guaranteed Oceanview Stateroom", and giving up our ...
Pros: Food in the formal dinning room was excellent, but the buffet was only average. Cons: Sleeping accommodations were extremely poor, customer service was non-existent and activities were poorly organized.
The following is a letter I mailed to the President of Celebrity Cruise Line, Rick Sasso. To date no satisfactory response has issued by Celebrity. What you can't see are the photographs I sent. They show a room with two standard beds and a cot in...
Pros: Everything was great. Cons: Bring your own hairdryer; their's is weak. that's it.
My family of 5 just returned from the Anchorage to Vancouver leg (7 nights) from the July 27 cruise date. Previous comments I had read were problems with embark. and disemb; so I was ready for the worst. Was pleasantly surprised that with how many...
The Mercury, by the Celebrity is one of the more casual ships in the carribean. It also has its finer points, though. I was on it as a teen and had a very enthralling time. I made many friends, a handfull of whom I'm still in contact with today. This...
Pros: service, food, ambiance of public spaces Cons: cramped feel of staterooms
Took cruise on the Mercury in December of 1999. The cruise from Fort
Lauderdale made calls at Key West, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman. This is not
a cruise for dedicated shoppers except for Grand Cayman which is an outlet
for luxury goods....
Pros: Large, Great food and service Cons: not good for young children
Last Christmas I traveled on this magnificent ship. The ship has great entertainment, food, and service. If you have a lot of young children this probably wouldn't be the right cruise for you but teenagers love it. This was my 12 cruise and possibly...
Great time cruising with friends on the Celebrity Mercury in January 2000. We have cruised Celebrity before; twice on the Century, and once on the Zenith.
The ship is beautiful - fabulously clean, as all Celebrity ships seem to be. One major...
Pros: Great staff, food, and amenities Cons: Smoking still allowed on port side through out ship except dining rooms.
My husband and I took the Alaskan cruise on the Mercury and it was a great trip. The ship is beautiful and the staff was excellent. The amenities the ship had to offer were first class and the food was fantastic and the presentation wonderful. The...
Pros: service staff excellent. waiters were professional in their job. Cons: ship in dismal repair.too many things gone wrong.bad decisions made
My husband and I cruised aboard the Mercury from Sydney to Honolulu for a total of 29 days. The carpet was split in many places - the food the first 2 weeks was mediocre at best - there were 2 ports of call that they were unable to get us to, then ...
Pros: Excellent food and service. Good ports of call. Cons: Some tours are very overpriced. Too many days at sea on Australian/New Zealand cruise.
I just returned from a wonderful cruise on the Mercury that started out in Sydney and ended in Auckland. One thing I was concerned about and would like others to know (who may not)is about the tipping. I noticed that on the last night in the dining ...
Pros: We did not even have a chance to enjoy the vacation Cons: Exorbitant fees, not being told of the NO re-embarkation policy, overblown medical diagnosis
My parents, husband and I took the 7-day Celebrity Mercury cruise from San Francisco. What was meant to be a celebration of my mom's birthday turned into a nightmare due to an overblown diagnosis and being dumped off the boat. The first morning the ...
Pros: childrens daycare Cons: cheap food extra charges dirty mexico
sailing date 13 oct 2004 I sailed with my wife and 3 yr old daughter. stateroom fare 5022.75 plus extras shore trips, alcohol and gratuites. About 800 bucks more. The food on this tired ship was disappointing even in the pretentious MANHATTAN restaurant. ...
Pros: Food, service, atmosphere, space Cons: rough feeling to pilled bedspreads; overpriced excursions
We've cruised twice on the Mercury in April 1999 and April 2000. My wife and I cruised the first time, and were joined by our daughter and son-in-law the second time. Our second cruise was a two week repositioning cruise via the Panama Canal from Ft....
My cruise with Mercury was the third cruise line I have been with. Let me just start by saying that it was not quite at the same level as another cruise line I took, but the price was also a lot less expensive, and what I got was definitely worth price....
Pros: Alaska is incredible Cons: poor navigation skills
Sailed on the Mercury Aug. 26/00 to Alaska - Alaska is all
everyone says it is and more. I have not been a fan of
Celebrity - this is my 4th cruise with them. On the second
last day the ship made a sharpe right turn to avoid a ...
Pros: Great Entertainment, Great Shows, Great Food, Great Disco, Great Staff Cons: None

Pros: wonderful attention to detail and comfort Cons: Not enough information about shore excursions
We recently returned from a seven day Caribbean cruise on the Mercury( departure from Ft. Lauderdale on January 9th). It was wonderful, and we enjoyed every minute, but now we are faced with a severe restriction involving Red Cross blood donation. Due to...
From the moment you first come in contact with the staff of a Celebrity cruise ship, you know you're going to have a fabulous time.
My daughter and I went on a cruise to Alaska a year ago, and I can honestly say I've never experienced such a...
Don't sail on Mercury until after the Spring 2009 refit by rpyc203 ,Mar 21 '08
Pros: Good food, excellent service Cons: Poorly maintained, severe engine vibration in aft cabins
The Mercury is old and poorly maintained. We had an aft cabin subject to severe vibration when entering/leaving port, including most of the panels in the cabin. At 5am this was not creating a relaxing cruise environment!! We also experienced nauseating smells through the air conditioning system at 2am on one night, balcony ceiling panels falling down, repeated failures of the toilet flushing system.
The plus side is the good quality of the food and excellent service by the restaurant staff.
If you have a cruise booked on Mercury in 2008/2009 I would advise you to investigate changing to another ship.
Charged for theft of items by scrappygirl ,Oct 08 '08
Pros:
None (other cruise lines are as good or better)
Cons: Suspect security, unfair customer service practices
After my cruise my credit card was charged an additional $177.00 because it was reported that 2 bathrobes, 2 umbrellas, a pair of binoculars, and a notepad was missing after I departed the ship.
It took seven calls to customer service to find out what the charges were for, my final bill when I left the ship did not include these items. My final discussion with the executive office of coporate customer service was unsatisfactory. I was told that the ship inventory showed those items missing and the charges would not be refunded. Jackie suggested I check my luggage, perhaps I took the items home.
I felt I was accused of stealing. I will never cruise Celebrity again. If my cabin isn't secure when I leave the ship, how secure is it when I an in it?
