Opinion on Freestyle Cruising

by rkwyatt , Oct 25 '07
Pros: Ports of Call
Cons: Freestyle Dining
NCL has been sold by the Norwegians to an Indonesian shipping company, who implemented and heavily promote "Freestyle Cruising." Actually, it is a cost cutting plan that reduces the number of waiters by extending the restaurant operating hours with the ...

The Week From HELL!!!

by kbs4 , Apr 25 '02
Pros: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!!
Cons: EVERYTHING!!!!!!!
Norwegian cruiseline is possibly in the top five of being rated one of the worst cruiselines! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone out there. When I first got off of the plane I couldn't even find a representative from Norwegian cruiseline to assist me...

Classic Mediterranean

by kkspahn , Nov 24 '00
Pros: A very economical trip jammed pack with exciting things to visit and do.
Cons: Must be high energy to keep up with all of the activities.
My husband and I cruised the Mediterranean from Istanbul to Barcelona on the Dream. The service was excellent! This was one of the best cruises we have taken. Everything was perfect. The tours (pre, during and post)were exceptional. The guides were...

Pros: a must to trip to take
Cons: none
One of the most nicest cruises my husband an I traveled on was on this cruise line to Bermuda. Besides having the most delicious food it had a great staff of waiters, room service and excellent cruise entertainment employees. We have traveled on many...

Dream Cruise

by linda4241 , Dec 13 '99
Pros: cuisine, cleanliness, staff, ambiance, entertainment, service,
Cons: cost of a single traveler
I cruised on the Dream last February to the Southern Caribbean from San Juan to Aruba, Curacao, Tortola, St. Thomas. Traveling as a single I feel all cruise lines should make some concessions as far as the cost factors are concerned. This trip cost me...

Bye Bye to a Great Gal

by theawesome1 , Nov 24 '08
Pros: A great ship, small in size to what we cruise now.
Cons: After collision with the run away Japanese vessel, she lost.
For many that may not know Dream was sold to Louis Cruises.  She right now is docked in Boston for her new owner to come & get her.  She is painted solid white with her name in black print on the rear.We saw her as we docked in ...

The Norwegian Nightmare!
by jlv985 ,Feb 10 '07
Pros: NONE
Cons: We should have stayed home.
This was our 1st and last cruise. The NCL experience was by far a vacation from hell. Our room shook and vibrated non stop as well as most of the ship. We immediately became ill (either a cruise ship virus, seasickness, or the disgusting food)and were not offered any help or assistance. We disembarked at the first stop and flew home from Cancun, costing us thousands. We were not refunded any money or even offered an apology, we were told "We hope to see you in the future on NCL." Beware of the NIGHTMARE!

Norwegian nightmare
by l1011 ,Jan 01 '08
Pros: Good itinerary
Cons: Poorly run cruise
9 December 2007 South america cruise
We have cruised on over a dozen ships in recent years. Never have we been on a ship as poorly run as this one.
Very overcrowded for a ship this size. People wait or stand in line for nearly everything.
Food was the worst we have ever encountered.Saw a lot of people send their food back.
Specialty restaurant definitely not worth the money.
Little or no info on ports of call. Small library had no info.
Terrible beds. Grubby looking bedspread.
Dining service was marginal. So many tables crowded into small room wait staff could hardly get around.
Buffet dining was a zoo!
Embarkation and debarkation was horrible. People yelling and pounding on the wall to get off, so they would not miss their flights home. No announcements as to why we were late getting off. It appeared they let people off first going to local hotels for after cruise activities.
Compensation for the missed ports of call was certainly very fair.
However, in 14 days, we did not find any one who would ever cruise with NCL again

TIPPING WITH NCL
by terryandmarion ,Aug 01 '05
Pros: Being treated very special
Cons: Onboard tipping but we found a way round it
People are under the impression tipping is compulsory..I have to tell you IT IS NOT!We sailed on the Norwegian Dream, and we didnt approve of this method of tipping so we went to reception and opted out of the $10 per day tipping. At the end of the cruise the $10 per day is taken off your onboard account. The only down side to the cruise was the entertainment, esp the singer..UGH thought he was like like Dean Martin (I dont think)otherwise the food was 1st class and the crew were very helpful and polite

Great first cruise
by ladyleo40 ,Dec 10 '05
Pros: Spacious rooms Excellent service Friendly Staff/Crew Great food Freestyle Cruising
Cons: I didn't win a million dollars in the casino...ha ha.
We had a great time, no hassles at all and the staff/crew were fantastic. We missed Cancun, but that was because of Hurricane Wilma; certainly not anything NCL could control. Our Oceanview room was spacious, plenty of space for our clothes, and the seating area was a definite plus. We found plenty of activities to keep us busy and the shows were varied and the performances good. I loved the "Free Style" schedules and casual dress code, I was on vacation and didn't want to 'have' to do anything (and I never felt as if I did). I will be sailing with NCL again.

Norwegian Dream (and sister ship Norwegian Wind)
by williambo ,Aug 13 '05
Pros: The cabins were great. Plenty of room, very comfortable. Lot's of room with good service.
Cons: Too many people...too little public areas.
Everything was up to speed on the Norwegian Dream except the ship had been lengthened to add a lot of cabins. Unfortunately, the restaurants and public lounging areas are not up to the crush of all the additional passengers. Too many times we went to a buffet and found that there was no place to sit! Also, it was difficult to find a place in the lounges to spend some leisure time. The crush of extra passengers, caused lines in the dining rooms to be too long. The extra length provided more revenue for the ship but at the passenger's expense. No more cruising on the Dream or any of it's sister ships...
