Be sure to walk "off the beaten path." EXPERIENCED snorkelers with their own equipment can go on their own to the ocean side, to snorkel virgin reefs.
NCL shore excursions cost no more than if you made your own arrangements; they are excellent, and the ship waits for you. High prices of shore excursions are due to the high cost of living in Hawaii, the NCL markup.
