Pros: Great cabin steward; attentive room service staff; great room (suite) Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE! My suitcase had a better vacation!
Now I wanted to love this cruise. I tried really hard. I kept reminding myself that it was less expensive than going on Disney again because of the cross-country airfare and the extra day of travel each way (read how great it was ...
Pros: It's cheap; not a huge monetary investment. Cons: It's cheap; as in 'tacky'.
My grandmother and I recently returned from a three day cruise aboard Monarch of the Seas. This was the fifth cruise for my grandmother, and the second for me. Our itinerary was as follows: 10/3, Depart Los Angeles, 5:30pm 10/4, Ensenada, Mexico, 8: ...
Pros: A great way to ring in the New Year! Cons: You pay a premium for all New Years Voyages.
Monarch of the Seas 2008 New Years Eve Voyage Review December 31, 2007 – January 4, 2008 Our New Years Eve cruise aboard the Monarch of the Seas was great; I went with my husband and two other couples and would not hesitate recommending the ship or ...
Pros: Good Value, Great Service, Excellent Food, Fun Activities Cons: Small Cabin, Elevators
Our vacation started on Labor Day, 5 nights at sea on this big ship. We left from Ft. Lauderdale, FL and our ports of call were Key West, FL, Cozumel & Costa Maya, Mexico. If you have never cruised before my guess is you have a lot of questions about...
Pros: Lots of Activities
Good Service
Good Food Cons: Costs add up
Not enough time to enjoy it all
My wife and I just returned from a four night cruise on the Monarch of the Seas with four other couples. We had been planning this trip for nine or ten months so it was nice to get it completed safely during the current unrest.
Pros: Great excursions, food, service, and cruise Cons: Smallish Staterooms
The Monarch of the Seas was first built in 1991. This makes the ship one of the "older" ones in the Royal Caribbean fleet of mega cruise ships like the Voyager of the Seas. Despite this unfortunate tag, the ship holds well over 2,500 passengers and is...
Pros: Great service, fun atmosphere. Cons: Food was okay.
I have sailed on the Monarch of the Seas twice. Both times were the 3-4 day jaunts to Ensenada, Mexico, San Diego, CA, and Catalina Island. The first was a 3 day with a stop only in Mexico. We went with friends and family for my husband's 30th ...
Pros: Friendly, helpful crew; great live music; efficient arrival/departure routine Cons: Too much mediocre food eaten in too great a quantity by people who shouldn't
This was a trial cruise for my wife and I - we are both experienced, independent travelers who would normally NEVER book an organized tour with planned activities, etc, who decided to try a short cruise to see what all the fuss is about. Since cruising ...
Pros: See a new country every day, convenience, service, activities, excursions Cons: So many things to do, so little time
San Juan is charming - it is definitely worth tacking an extra day on to your trip to see it. We stayed at the Wyndham Old San Juan and were very pleased.
9/2 We took a small bus tour to the El Yunque rain forest. First we...
Pros: The dining experience Cons: Crowds, crowds, crowds
It was neither the best of times nor the worst of times, but it was our first and probably last cruise. To put my comments in perspective, my wife and I are in our late sixties and have traveled frequently; Japan, New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, ...
Pros: Amazing Food, Comfortable Bed, Friendly Staff, Debarkation Cons: Embarkation, Old Trolley Tour, La Bufadora Tour
We had an amazing time on this cruise! It definitely surpassed all of our expectations!! I had cruised before on Carnival and it was good, but this was so much better!! I can't believe people would complain about this cruise! Everyone was so nice, the ...
Pros: Short duration allows cruise experience with less dollars committed. Easy trip from LA. Cons: All areas seemed congested with people. Ship needs facelift.
We recently returned from a four night stay aboard Royal Caribbean’s Monarch of the Seas, cruising from the San Pedro pier in Los Angeles to San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada. (Dec 5-9, 2005) If you’re a first time cruiser, I am going in to great ...
Pros: Value for the cost, attentive staff and great food (particularly the dinners) Cons: Room (especially bathroom) size, cruise length (we wish it would have lasted longer!)
A Christmas Cruise Review Just a note: I have read some great reviews (both good and bad) on epinions and thought I would add my experience here for those of you thinking about trying a cruise on the Monarch of the Seas. This may run a bit long, but ...

Pros: Good value for the money; food is very good overall, staff is friendly and helpful. Cons: No at-sea days; too short a cruise; ports were fun but not that exciting.
This 4-day cruse to San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada was a very good value for the money; I wouldn't say that it was great, but it was a very enjoyable cruise overall. The food was very good and had a lot of variety. Although they don't serve ...
Pros: Refurbished ship, good destinations, good for kids Cons: Small cabins, food was just ok, trip a bit too short
We were having some work done on the house and had to be out for a few days so I decided to take the family on a cruise. We live in the Los Angeles area so we decided to take the 4 day Mexico cruise on the Monarch of the Seas. Overall the trip was a ...
Pros: Great food, attentive crew, wonderful entertainment Cons: Easy to spend more than you intended and with all the good food you're sure to gain a little weight
My husband and I honeymooned on Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Sea in May of 95. Our cruise was 8 days 7 nights. We could not have dreamed of a more fabulous honeymoon, we truly were treated like royalty. The crew was helpful, personable and went out...
Pros: many ports, different tour options Cons: fly/cruise not a good deal
Thinking about a Royal Caribbean cruise? If you've never cruised before, or are taking your first trip to the Caribbean, I'd say try the Monarch of the Seas.
We had taken RCCL before on a Mexican cruise, so we trusted them to make a...
We had an uneventful trip down, we flew down from North Florida a big benefit of living here and as we approached the airport, we could see several cruise ships in the harbor. We were met at the gate by a
representative of Royal Caribbean. Soon we...
Pros: Excellent main dining food and friendly staff Cons: Overpriced and the ship is outdated - bad buffet meals
This was our first cruise - my wife and two children decided to go on Dec 24th - we booked in early August. At the time we thought we were getting competitive prices - but after talking to multiple people on the ship - we found out that we paid almost...
Pros: Plenty of activities to choose from around the clock! Cons: Service was not consistent.
We cruised out February 8th 2003. The weather was absolutely perfect the whole time. OK before I get ahead of myself, let me start by telling you, that my Mom won this cruise. She actually won a cruise for 4 people, for 7 nights, and upgraded rooms...
Pros: Great Itinerary! Great Kid's Program. Cons: Cabins are pretty small for four people
I have sailed several of the major cruise lines (including Costa, NCL, RCCL, Carnival) to nine Caribbean islands on at least 12 cruises over the past few years. For me, the 4-night Mexican Baja sailing on the Viking Serenade was a delightful change of...
Pros: Great itinerary, good service Cons: So-so food, lousy coffee!!!
I and two friends went on the Monarch Southern Caribbean trip back in September 2000. We had a great time. It was my first cruise, Dan's second, and John's umpteenth (he was 'slumming'--he usually goes on Cunard). A rundown:
Pros: A good time can be had by all! Cons: Too much to do if that's a problem!
First of all let me put in a disclaimer, I live in St. Thomas, so why would I want to go on a cruise? A high school class reunion! My on island classmates were tired of doing all the work for the past two we had so we said let the cruise line do the...
Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Relaxing, Experience of a life time. Cons: none
When I was 12, my parents took me on the trip that I would compare all other trips to. At first, I was not excited at all. I was only in eight grade and thought I would be stuck on a ship with a bunch of 80 year olds. That was no the case. In...
Pros: gourmet meals, island itinerary, shore excursions Cons: small cabin rooms
I cruised on Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas this past summer and what a wonderful experience it was! For first time cruisers, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (R.C.C.L.) is definitely the way to go. Be prepared to be pampered from the minute you set...
Pros: Great Service and Destinations Cons: Expensive
Last year, my parents had the opportunity to go on a trip over spring break (Easter). They took that chance and never regretted it again. They attended a Carnival cruise line ship and absolutely love. After this cruise, they told themselves that they...
Pros: Beautiful Ports, Incredible Food, Fun Excursions Cons: A little pricey for those on a budget.
My Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Monarch of the Sea was unforgettable. I can honestly say it was the best vacation that I have ever had. Our Ports of Call are as follows in the order that we visited the islands: St. Thomas/St. John, Martinique,...
Pros: high quality good price Cons: not long enough!
We took the cruise in March 96. It was the best vacation of my life! we were in our mid-20's, and enjoyed the age ranges on the ship. Even though it was spring break season, this is not a spring break type of cruise, so no wild crowds of drunken...
Pros: Great cruise for the price! Cons: Its not a tropical cruise.
I like to start off with saying this is not the best cruise but if you live in California and you don't want to pay to fly to Florida or Texas then this is a great cruise for the price! It isn't as big or have those cool stops like the ships that go to ...
Pros: Quality food in the formal dining room. Rock climbing wall. Cons: Ignorant, dishonest, unfriendly staff. Small rooms with less than expected service. Full-price fair for infants.
I had very high expectations about this cruise having heard how wonderful cruise meals, services, and activities are. From the rude agent in the embarking area (which gave me questions before I even got to the ship)to the ignorant and unhelpful staff I ...
Pros: Great value; clean ship; excellent staff on board. Cons: State rooms certainly small. On board photos are too expensive and not very good.
There are plenty of other reviews that really describe the atmosphere and layout of the ship. I just wanted to add a short review to say that for a relatively inexpensive cruise, we could not have asked for a better time. While I imagine that the larger ...
Pros: A nice cruise for first timers or locals. Cons: Food is just "so so", ship is a bit beat up and brassy.
I booked the 3 day Ensenada cruise on the Monarch for my boyfriend's birthday. I am currently residing in Los Angeles because of my job so this looked like something different to do that we wouldnt be able to easily do back home (Michigan). Neither of us ...

Casualness Cons: The rooms are very small.
The photo gallery employees and prices.
We had a wonderful time on the Monarch of the Seas. Our trip started on Monday Feb 26, 2007. We got to the port around 11am and went through the check in process with no problems. We were up in the Windjammer Cafe by 12pm eating lunch. Other reviews ...
Pros: excellent service, good food, plenty of onboard entertainment Cons: getting on and off at ports of call is time consuming
My daughter and I recently took a cruise to Cozumel on the Monarch of the Seas and were very pleased with all aspects of the cruise. The service and hospitality onboard were exquisite, particularly our cabin steward. I'm not sure how he managed to keep...
Pros: Great food, visiting different islands, and all out fun Cons: Why did I have to come back home?
This cruise was FANTASTIC and I didn't want even to leave when my vacation came to an end. First of all, everyday since we had left San Juan, Puerto Rico the ship had stopped to make a visit to some of the most beautiful Caribbean Islands. For a couple...
Pros: Great service, activities Cons: Poor entertainment
My wife and I had been on two other Royal Caribbean ships, and we chose the Monarch for our third cruise based on the itinerary. We were not disappointed, despite the fact that the Monarch is one of RCCL's older and smaller ships.
Pros: Large enough to not seem crowded, even on a full cruise. Cons: Cabins are small, but adequate!
We recently went on the Monarch from 12/20-12/24 2001. Our cruise experience was no less than awesome. We had a category F stateroom on the promenade deck, and although small was more than adequate. There was no refrigerator or safe in the room, but the...
Pros: spending time with family Cons: toilets, sinks, poor food quality, poor customer service
I have been on this ship 5 times now. This 3 day cruise is appealing because of its location in L.A. In 2007 did it 2 x ,once with parents and sister and kids/ was pretty good , no upgrades, service was ok, food was lacking in greatness I went ...

Pros: food, service, clean, Cons: small inside rooms
This cruise was terrific in all aspects. We went in July. My husband and I went on this trip with another couple and we range in age from 28-34. I felt the cruise had an excellent blend of age groups- young couples, honeymooners, families, and older...
Pros: Main dinner was great- good service Cons: Poor buffet, low budget shows, smelly ship
A last minute decision for my husband and I. We decided a week before our cruise to join our 4 friends on what we thought would be a blast. Not the case. The ship that was clearly outdated (built in 1991,) was overcrowded and smelled of urine. That's...
Royal Caribbean's Monarch Of The Seas provided my new wife and I with the perfect honeymoon. We sailed 8/26/01-09/02/01. The bliss began at the San Juan Airport. We never saw our baggage until it appeared outside our stateroom at 3:00pm Sun. afternoon....

Pros: Cheap, Good Destinations, Fun Atmosphere Cons: Please Read Review
This review was submitted to Royal Caribbean for review and comment when I left it in the suggestion box on my way off the ship. I have given Royal Caribbean 8 months to respond, and I have heard nothing about this review, even after requesting to speak...
Pros: Staff, food, intelligence, diversity. Cons: My shipmate, disembarkation.
I had a WONDERFUL time. From the minute I boarded to the minute I disembarked (minus the actual disembarkation), I had the best time of my life. I sailed on May 7, 2007, the cruise was given to me by my family as an early "50th" birthday present. They ...
Pros: Great weekend. Recommend for anyone who needs a quick getaway to recharge and relax. Cons: wish the trip was longer
Just returned from a wonderful weekend retreat on the Monarch of the Seas. We have gone on this cruise many times before , and were very pleasantly surprised with the excellent service that was lacking, along with the ...
Pros: Ship was nice, food was good. That really is it for this cruise. Cons: Because a smaller ship, not as many activities. Excursion was BAD, very poor customer service.
This was our third cruise with Royal Caribbean, and our worst experience. Overall the ship was nice, service was OK. But we had a VERY BAD experience on the bike excursion in Ensenada. And Royal Caribbean was NO HELP in correcting the issues. The ...

Pros: EVERYTHING from the food to the staff. Cons: The cabins were slightly small for 4 people.
My trip on Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas was one of the BEST vacations I've ever had. We took our royal 7 day journey on the Monarch shortly after she was first set out on the seas in 1991. At that time, she was the biggest cruise ship to ever...
Pros: Family times are excellent Cons: cannot think of one
Royal Carib definately gives you a family experience. With great staff and a great atmosphere, kids are more than welcome, in fact when I went this cruise a couple of years ago I was still in high school, and it is excellent, I was in the Casino a bit...
Pros: Live on board & travel to many different ports of call. Cons: The food, though very good, was not as good as another cruise line we traveled on.
Our cruise on Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas was a wonderful vacation. We went with three other couples and had a fabulous time. The shore excursions were well planned, as well as the on-ship activities.
In July, my wife and I went on the Monarch, and to begin with, they lost our luggage when we debarked. To make matters even worse, they only offer $300 for lost luggage and in order to get that you'd probably spend that much on long distance phone...
Pros: good sights, very nice staff Cons: expensive
I went on a cruise on the Monarch of The Seas a couple of years ago and I had the time of my life. First, the ship stopped at Labadee, Haitee. This is a private island owned by Royal Carribean. Next, we stopped by San Juan, Puerto Rico. This...
Pros: Excellent Service! Employees made cruise unforgettable. Great shows and activities! Cons: Tasteless Food.
My family and I chose to take a cruise on the Monarch of the Seas to celebrate my 21st birthday! Besides the bland food, we had a blast! Our ship went to Coco Cay and Nassau, Bahamas, from Port Canaveral, Florida. The service we had was impeccable. ...
Pros: None Cons: Royal Caribbean is a filthy low-life company who doesn't give a rats @$$ about you
We waited with excitement for 2 months to go on our first cruise. Royal Caribbean was recommended by a friend so we were ready for a good time, right? Well after being on the boat three hours a message had been left in our room that our luggage had been ...
Pros: NOTHUING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING Cons: Everything, they lost my precious bag (a gift from my mother)
I scheduled the tour in Venice, Italy for 10 days for 8 people, 8 people !!! That's a lot of business. Somehow, my luggage was the only one that disappeared. They lost my luggage in venice, Italy, and then told me they were ...
Pros: The dinner steward that warmed our coffe up for us & the room stewards. Cons: This is not the way to vacation, the best way is an ALL ENCLUSIVE resort
This was our FIRST CRUISE and if my husband has anything to say OUR LAST!!! We were on this cruise with quite a large group from work, and everyone kept telling us how much you will love a cruise, its great, best vacation ever etc. WRONG...Not sure about ...
These guys are criminals! I booked a cruise directly through Royal Caribbean online - was charged a deposit - went back online a few days later to fill out all of my cruise documents - and my reservation was GONE! Called customer service and was told that my room had been sold to someone else because my reservation was not paid in full. There were no other rooms available, no problem... just give me my money back. Guess what? Their policy is NO REFUNDS - even though they received full fare for the room! I will NEVER SAIL WITH THIS CRUISE LINE - they are criminals and morally bankrupt.
Pros: The service was great. Cons: The food wasn't good.
My best friend asked me if I wanted to go with her and a couple other friends on a cruise right after graduation. Be it that I have never been on a cruise I jumped right in on the Idea. When she told me how much it was going cost I couldn't get over the price! The first day of the cruise was great, until I had a taste of their food, It wasn't that bad but I had good expectations. The cabin that my friends and I got was pretty small for four people but we lived with it. Even though the food wasn't the greatest and the cabin small. I have to say the service was very good. Our house keeping guy couldn't stop starring at my friend, we all thought it was pretty funny. When we went to our cabin at night our room was clean. The Dining service was great one of the waiters remembered each of our drinks and the other our names. Over all I thought the experience of the cruise was good.
Nice ship, but the food... by heighthog ,Mar 14 '05
Pros: Great ship, extremely friendly crew, just long enough for an inexpensive vacation. Cons: The food is not what I have come to expect from cruising.
We just got back from our four night cruise, had a great time, but the food left little to be desired. The desserts were fantastic, and the only thing I can say that I enjoyed other than the desserts, was the onion tart that was served as an appetizer one night. Aside from that, the food was bland, extremely forgettable. Everybody that I spoke with prior to this cruise, said that Royal Caribbean has the best food, sadly we did not experience that.
One of the best nicest parts of cruising is getting to know the staff of the ship, especially those that take care of you directly. The dining room staff were wonderful. However, I could not even tell you who take care of our stateroom. Unfortunately, you feel obligated to leave tips to everybody who helps, even if they do not deserve it. But the nice thing about that, is you can leave as little or as much of a tip as you want at the end of the cruise.
Negative experience-lost luggage by vwrt ,Sep 29 '04
Pros: Great cabin attendant. Cons: Pressure for tipping.
Lousy Customer Service.
Lost luggage.
Chaotic boarding and leaving ship.
I totally agree with previous negative comments. I would never sail with Royal Caribbean again.
I especially got tired with their bid for money. I especially felt pressured about tipping.
Boarding and leaving the ship was total chaos and took forever.
They lost my grandsons' luggage and made no effort whatsoever to find it.
When I returned home I called, wrote, and e-mailed regarding their luggage and when (rarely) I received an answer it was always to say they would get back to me (never happened). After more than 4 months I received a check in the mail for $70 with the notation that by endorsing the check I relieved them of all responsibility.
Monarch of the Seas looks fantastic by funcruises ,Oct 12 '04
Pros: Food and sushi bar were awesome. Entertainment great as usual. Cons: Cabins are still small. Ensenada no big deal.
I just came back from my third cruise on the Monarch of the Seas and I have to tell you it was awesome. I have been on that ship twice before when it was cruising out of San Juan, but now that it's in LA I wanted to do a Mexican Baja cruise. I was a little concerned because it was over 10 years old, but my travel agent at www.cruisecheap.com said it had just had a $35 million dollar upfit and looked brand new. He wasn't kidding. It looked great. Nothing like that new ship smell. :-)
Would highly recommend this cruise for anyone looking for a quicky trip out of LA. We may do it again next spring.
