Wonderful Trip!!

by jd102042 , Mar 11 '04
Pros: Great for singles, informal, unique itineraries, sailing!
Cons: Bunk beds
This was my first trip on a Windjammer ship. I have been on 2 "foo foo" ships, so I was a little concerned about the possible comparison. It all depends on what you're looking for. I chose Windjammer mainly for 2 reasons--the itinerary of the ship and ...

February 2002 Poly Review

by pugger , Mar 28 '02
Pros: Relaxed,Fun,Tours,Food,Islands,Boat,Great Experience
Cons: Cabins,Age 50+,Not much night life & onboard activities
I looked into Windjammer Barefoot Cruises because of the television show "Love Cruise", this show aired during the fall of 2001. Watching the television show I was interested in going on a cruise like this rather than a big cruise line. I tried to...

Windjammer Polynesia: Barefooting in the Caribbean

by jdhauer Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Mar 30 '01
Pros: Casual atmosphere, visiting less crowded smaller islands, other passengers, no shoes!
Cons: bathrooms, low ceilings for tall people
My husband and I decided to take a Windjammer cruise to celebrate our first anniversary. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a cruise on our actual anniversary so we celebrated a month early. I looked into Windjammer when we were planning our ...

If you want a fun adventure...

by dwanders , May 06 '01
Pros: An out-of-the-ordinary adventure with people who like to have fun, great ship and crew.
Cons: Not a luxury liner. Had to go back to reality. ;(
Twenty years ago I heard about Windjammer Barefoot Cruises. My boss said it was a blast. Since then I've always wanted to go. In April 2001, when low airfare coupled with Windjammer's half-price Cybersailor fares, I couldn't resist, and it was one of...

Singles' Cruise

by uofo-mo , Jan 08 '03
Pros: Beautiful ship, beautiful islands, friendly passengers!
Cons: Sleeping bunks on the C Deck.
My trip on the SV Polynesia was wonderful.
I got a little seasick the first night, I suggest you go for the prescription derma-patch, but once I got a patch from another passenger, it was smooooooth sailing. :)

The island stops are...

Pirates and sex and community--oh my!

by nbaltz , Dec 08 '03
Pros: Unmatched sailing experience
Cons: Not for the glitterati
Aargh Matey! If you be 8 or 80, the Polynesia ("the Poly", as Jammers call it) is a magical sea experience. When the sails go up, to the strains of Amazing Grace (in memory of the ship Fantome and its crew, that sunk in a hurricane several years ago), ...

Down-hill from the get-go.

by amcooke , Jul 25 '01
Pros: Great destinations
Cons: Everything else.
Our Windjammer cruise started off on the worst possible foot! After several hours of plane transfers and air travel, we arrived late in the evening very excited to find out that the best rooms, for which we had paid extra were over booked and we would be...

Relax in the Caribean sun

by fmfcorpsman , Feb 27 '01
Pros: Fun, relaxation and non foo foo sailing at its best
Cons: occasional toilet trouble. Too little sailing more motoring.
I had one of the best vacations of my life aboard windjammers polynesia. It was my honeymoon, and I can't think of a better way to relax after months of planning and listening to my wife worry about last minute items. My cruise began from St. Martin....

Millenium aboard Polynesia

by ckaspia , Jan 11 '00
Pros: Great relaxed and fun experience
Cons: Low quality of food and service
My family and I just came back from doing the Millenium cruise aboard Polynesia. It was our first experience of this kind and we loved it. With only 100 passengers aboard we had the opportunity to meet and share with almost everyone. Enjoyed the...

relaxed fun!
by estapler ,Dec 31 '05
Pros: Informality, great crew, great value, super ports of call.
Cons: NONE
My wife and I took our second Windjammer cruise on the Polynesia in May 2005. What a great trip! A different island each day, great crew, sensible food. Casual dress all the time; go barefoot. The cabins, while adequate, are not as nice as on the S.V. Legacy. Standard cabins do not have portholes and the bathrooms are rough; hot water not always a given. But you are usually out on deck anyway so it wasn't a big disappointment. Food quality had been upgraded since our first trip and I had no complaints. Quite extensive appetizer spread on deck with complimentary rum swizzles in the afternoon. Captain was friendly, accessible, and very focused on safety. Can't wait until our next cruise on Windjammer!

Windjammer Polynesia: Not So Great
by jmre ,Feb 16 '06
Pros: Grand and romantic sailing experience; itinerary
Cons: Mediocre service, mediocre food, an incredibly uncomfortable ship if you like to sit down
This Caribbean cruise (February '06) was a decidedly mixed blessing. In general a wonderful grand old sailing ship with a great itinerary and OK side trips on this particular cruise (St. Martin and nearby islands). But the devil lurks in the details... Mostly (not all) indifferent crew, mediocre food, very casual (great) and also crude and offensive at times (not so good). But, worst of all, there is no one single spot on the Polynesia where you can sit in comfort - after a few days, this becomes a major annoyance. Most passengers shared this complaint and it is absolutely amazing that the management has not addressed this problem - surely, getting lounge chairs and cushions and ripping out those absurd dining room benches can't be that expensive! Maybe it is as the saying goes: you get what you pay for. We will travel back to the Caribbean again, but not on this ship!

royal sovereign portable air conditioner
by dacarr ,Jun 03 '07
Pros: easy setup/installation,remote control operation
Cons: does not cool well,noise
if you are thinking of purchasing the Royal Sovereign arp-1000es portable air conditioner from Sears-reconsider.
I bought it because we have casement/slider type windows and it is designed to fit this type window with ease. It does, and this is the only good thing I can say about it.
It is a 10,000 btu rated model and maybe I expected too much, but after running it for 2 hours on a day when the temp was 82 degrees, it only cooled the room temp by 2 degrees. (and this may have been because it was evening and outside temp normally drops?)I tried it the next night in a smaller room -100sq ft-same outcome.Guess I should have been warned when as I was purchasing it, the sales lady reminded me about the 15% return fee they have at Sears. It is also noisy-enough that we couldnt sleep, and had to turn up volume on tv when a/c was on.
