South Africa , Heaven and hell.

by travelgall Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Sep 10 '03
Pros: Good Food, great countryside, and wildlife that beats your National Geographic subscription
Cons: Crime and Poverty
I flew to South Africa on KLM for a long stay in this beautiful country. It is a wonderful country in parts, whilst other bits of it aren't so good, but South Africa is definitely somewhere a passionate traveler has to go to sometime in their life. My fir ...

by gard , Jan 22 '05
Pros: Many good options for eating out, pretty cheap, nice weather

This trip report should maybe have been posted under the category Johannesburg. But I already have a trip report there from a previous trip so I have chosen to posted under South Africa general. A short summary Nikki and I went on a trip to ...

by pipw , May 15 '03
Pros: Great scenery and culture
Cons: The historical political problems
Cape Town was the first stop on my round the world trip and at this point I was completely on my own. I initially stayed at The Backpack hostel (www.backpackers.co.za) and they can arrange the backpacker bus to pick you up from the airport.

Peaceful Port Elizabeth

by wannabe_writer , Mar 18 '00
Pros: relaxed atmosphere, feeling of security
Cons: sleepy city (not necessarily bad)
For a city of over one million people, Port Elizabeth has the feel of a sleepy little town. Dubbed "The Friendly City," Port Elizabeth has a bit of "small town" charm to it and gives the impression of more security than is found in...

Pros: A very inexpensive destination. English is widely spoken. Modern conveniences.
Cons: Expensive to get to and it takes a very long flight to get there.
(Note-I will use the term "RSA" when referring to the Republic of South Africa).

South Africa.

When I first planned my trip to this wonderful country, I conjured up images of wild animals and race riots. I even had friends tell me...

by catherine_james , Aug 18 '99
Pros: An enlightening experience

I departed for South Africa's Western Cape with a distinct mission in mind; I had been hired by a well-known travel guide to co-write the first edition of their book on South Africa. Though my assignment took me to several regions of the country,...

by GOkinaka Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 23 '99
Pros: Beautiful country, great exchange rate from $, and most people speak English!
Cons: Kind of an expensive flight to get there.....
When they say that South Africa is "A World in One Country," they are definitely telling the truth! I've been to South Africa two times in the past 5 years, and I can't wait to get back. One of the best parts is that there has been a very good...

Ugh! South Africa

by Afrekete , Nov 07 '00
Pros: No problems getting toilet paper.
Cons: Racist, dangerous, non-typical of African experience
Review Topic:  Overview

I could have done without visiting Johannesburg altogether. Bloomfontein was alright, but all in all, going to South Africa was like visiting a racist Europe, with a lot more landscape. The segregation...

Pros: Fresh fruit
Cons: Racism and crime
I am a little uncomfortable writing off a whole country based on my minimal experience in Jo'burg, but i would advise people to really consider their reasons for visiting South Africa.

After only 10 minutes in Jo'burg the warnings about your...

by rtauqir , Sep 02 '00
Pros: The whole city is a wonder
