Pros: Nice spices to perk up your curry with Cons: Aw, I hated the rest. Maybe it's just me.
Ok, so Elsa came from Africa, and that's were she belongs. And that's were I was. Tanzania. How ridiculous of me to go from there to Zanzibar, then; I assume the reason why I decided to do so is because when I'm locked behind closed doors I have to...
Pros: Charming culture & architecture, nice beaches Cons: Agressive street vendors, rude and unhygenic european backpackers
The moment I stepped foot in Stone Town, the dust of a ten-day safari seemed to drop off me and I felt like a man renewed. The bustle of Humanity on the byzantine streets of Zanzibar's main settlement felt like something out of "1001 Arabian Nights", and ...
"Zanzibar!" The mere name conjures up visions of a place full of history, exotic culture, and romance, and boy after visiting the Indian Ocean paradise itself, dare I say it lives up to the name! Sandy, unspoilt beaches with clear turquoise...
Pros: weather, culture, food Cons: pricey to get to
The island of Zanzibar is a veritable heaven on earth. Never have I been to a place that woke my senses to much. The weather, the scenery, the people and the food were all as spectacular as the name implies. I went during the rainy season...
The beautiful island of Zanzibar was the first stop on my trip to Tanzania after an overnight stay in Dar Es Salaam. The island is breathtakingly beautiful with the colors of the Indian Ocean surrounding it.
Pros: A colorful fusion of African, Indian and Islamic cultures, decor, cuisine. Cons: Many of the people are desperately poor, and animals are badly treated
All my life, I dreamed of going to Zanzibar. The first time was so wonderful, we did it again, three years later. Second time - just as good as the first, even better. Both times, we stayed at the Zanzibar Serena in Stone Town, a lovely, friendly and ...
Ahh heady days! There is Zanzibar filling the horizon as the ferry draws closer. A week of magic awaits you. Head left out of the old town although you will probably be dragged by one of the local boys for the commission. Haggle. Say you want to play...
Zanzibar - I was speachless after leaving!! by canada2006 ,May 22 '06
Pros: Endless Beauty, good food! Cons: Agressive street vendors
This small island was a perfect setting to end a seven day safari. We stayed at the Tembo Hotel which has a perfect location centrally located on the water. The architecture and beauty of these ancient buildings is stunning and once you get used to the street vendors you'll fall in love with this town. Just learn the ever important phrase "Hapana Asante" which means in Swahili "No thank you".
One evening some people told us to visit Africa House for sunset, wow were we impressed with the view and atmosphere of this location. The food wasn't very good but the drinks and company was top notch. Mercurys is a good seafood place on the water but a bit touristy. Pagoda House was also good if you are in the mood for Chinese, the restaurant is owned and operated by a Chinese family so the food is authentic.
Zanzibar is a wonderful place to visit and a perfect vacation after a week on safari. We didn't have a chance to visit the whole island because we were here for only a few days. Next time I come back I'll stay for a week.
