Pros: Unusual European backdrop with mainly Asian population. Architecture, beaches, open markets. Cons: Very humid, poor sanitation standards (smelly streets), greasy food.
As a newly graduated student of Theology, it was socially expected of me to select a location of the world that appealed to me the least and spend at least a summer being "uncomfortable" while teaching or helping out the less fortunate.

Pros: cut down the price Cons: many imitation
Macau is a beautiful city which has the combination between Portuguese building and Chinese tradition culture; however, there is still a balance remain. I have been to different countries and cities due to my job. I have worked in the travel agency ...

Pros: Colonial architecture, great food, decent nightlife. Cons: Not too many.
Visitors to Hong Kong will probably feel somewhat oppressed by the atmosphere and general unfriendliness of the population. Why not take a couple of days of your trip to Hong Kong and make a small excursion to Macau? You’ll notice that althought only 65...

Pros: Close to Hong Kong Cons: Not as interesting as Hong Kong
First, head for Macau's most famous site, the Ruins of St. Paul's. You will only see the facade, staircase, and a few of the walls because it burned in 1835. There is also a religious museum that opened in 1996 that contains the bones of Japanese and...

Pros: Food, Culture, Sights Cons: None
Definitely not a destination by itself, you still wouldn't want to miss Macau if you are in Hong Kong. We took an organized day trip, but I think it is better to just take the hydrofoil there on your own and wander around freely as you please, maybe...

Pros: Quaint, interesting mix of cultures Cons: More and more heavily developed
One of my first adventures abroad was in the territory of Macau. I lived here for a year and had a wonderful time getting to know the place.
Macau is a Chinese territory that is currently still under Portuguese administration. Just like Hong...

Pros: Less expensive than Hong Kong Cons: Probably could use some improvements. Some hotels are a bit old.
You will find that hotel rooms in Macau are quite a bit cheaper than in Hong Kong. That said, the service levels are not necessarily as high as they are in the finer hotels in Hong Kong.
Keep in mind that most hotels are busier over the...

Pros: You don't have to stay Cons: Barely Portugese, dirty, dangerous and the beaches and gambling suck
For any number of reasons, Macau sounds like it would be a fun place for a weekend. Brochures and reviews make the tiny island west of Hong Kong sound like an exotic combination of Portugese culture, gambling, and beautiful beaches. In truth, I found...

Pros: cheap things every where Cons: the weather
Macau, is known as Macao in Portuguese, is a small place and is taking off these years. I studied in this small place for at least ten years. If someone asked me that was Macau a fun place when I was in Macau, I would say it had no fun at all. ...

Pros: convenient Cons: nothing
I went to Macau through bus in Guangzhou, so I would get off at the border of Zhuhai. At Zhuhai there is a huge custom area with a mall inside. So if you have time you can shop there and eat there. The food is great. Then you would walk across the ...

Macau...quite an adventure. Having a choice of Chinese, Portuguese or Macanese food was wonderful. With the casinos being opened most of the time you could go dining at almost anytime day or night.
The people are very friendly and the...

Pros: quiet and peaceful in day time; but it's nightlife is very exciting also! Cons: the city area is small
In Macau, there will be a lot of new casinos and holiday resorts a few years later. There will become the Eastern Las Vegas. It is highly recommanded that you should come to Macau for a trip after being in Hong Kong. Airlines from Taiwan, China,...

Pros: Cheap food and interesting sights Cons: Crowded at all times
If you have never been to Macao, visualize a late 70s Hong Kong made movie. The roads are small, the shops are quaint, and the architecture sometimes larger than life. This is Macao. It is located about 40 minutes from Hong Kong (by ferry). The...

Pros: many different culture combine together. Cons: Unfair things occur.
Macao, which is my hometown, is a charming city indeed. Before she had been returned to China, she was a colony of Portugal. Why she would become a colony? Here are some of the colonial history of Macao. In the sixteenth century, some Portuguese ...
