Pros: Unique Culture, Exotic, Fascinating History, Beautiful Cons: Isolated & Remote, Very Expensive
When I was a boy, my family lived in a small drab industrial town on the east central Indiana prairie. I hated the flat featureless landscape, especially during the long, dark, dreary, frigid, winters. I read every boys adventure book about the tropics...

Pros: Relaxing and a neat cultural experience Cons: Can't do it every day
A must for any trip to Japan is a visit to a bathhouse, preferably one that boasts an onsen or hotspring.
The Japanese government runs various resorts, called JAs, with discounted entrance fees and other subsidized costs. During my two...

Pros: Has tourist destinations for anyone, many things to offer Cons: expensive as it is part of Japan, somewhat isolated from mainland
pretext- If you read my airline reviews, you will keep seeing my frequent flights to Japan. My parents are Japanese. I was born in Canada, but my parents always sent me back so that I was not to lose my heritage. My dad's birthplace is on the 4th main ...

Pros: It can happen. Cons: venues can be hard to find
Review Topic: Practical Information
In Japan, uncovering the non-stop kitsch and the local cultural/tourist offerings are fairly easy to do on one’s own. You can reference a book, take the word-of-mouth, or read epinions for...

Pros: fabulous visiting sites Cons: difficult to travel by car
If you have never been to Japan before and only have time to visit Japan for one or two weeks, I outline below a way to see the main historical sites (what I also consider the best after living in Japan for approximately 7 or 8 years and visiting many ...

Pros: Study tours can make you independent. School is fun! (Your grade doesn't matter!) Cons: School hours are long, but fun. You need time; have to adjust to Japanese accommodation.
Japan is the kind of place you need time to visit. The language and culture are so "otherly" that you need a spell to hang around and just be there before going off and seeing the sights. One very comfortable - and comparatively cheap - way to do ...

Pros: Everything in walking distance. Cons: When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING, some people may not like that.
It has long been my dream to go to Japan. I remember back in elementary school, we had an assignment where we had to write about which country we most wanted to visit. I said Japan. I was really into technology, and at the time there were countless...

Pros: Scenery, cool temperatures in summer, sense of history and spirituality Cons: A bit hard to get to, may be too expensive for budget travelers
On my eighth trip to Japan, I finally made it to the mountaintop temple complex of Koya-san, the headquarters of Shingon Buddhism. Before leaving the U.S., I sent a fax to the number listed in the Rough Guide to Japan, asking them to reserve me a room ...

Pros: Getting to hear your friends make fools of themselves. Cons: Having to hear your friends make fools of themselves.
Asia. The very word conjures up a host of images: silk, temples, thousand-year old cultures, Jackie Chan...and karaoke. Even the casual visitor to Japan notices the karaoke bars on the corner, in the middle of the block, at the next corner. I...

Pros: Cool things to see... Cons: Looks are deceiving!
When you enter a department store in Japan, get ready because the Japanese love to have foreigners taste their wares!
Upon entering a typical Japanese store, someone will greet you at the door with..."e-da-shai-ma-sei"...which in...

Pros: Beautiful beaches, rich natural environment, and something distinctly exotic. Cons: None.
This review is about a very small but wonderful place to visit in Japan that many tourists can miss because it is a small area that is not well-known to the public. Kume Island (Kumejima) is an isolated island in Okinawa Prefecture of Japan. Okinawa ...

Pros: truly an adventure Cons: afraid I would get lost and never find my way home!
A month before our son was born, my husband learned that his naval ship, the USS Kitty Hawk, would be re-homeported to Yokosuka, Japan. I had 4 more units to complete before I received my bachelor's degree from UCLA, and already had plans to begin...

Pros: Surface limits injuries. Cons: Games designed to take longest possible amount of time.
I'm a huge basketball fan.
Huge in reference the size of my love of the game...not my own size. Although I am slowly becoming a bigger fan.
So, while for others, finding a pick up game of basketball in the Far East might not be on...

Pros: Better than wearing a diaper out! Cons: Everything from start to finish!!!(excuse the pun)
Work was slow this afternoon, so my mind wandered, as it often does to my years in Japan. Today, I was thinking about my first real outing in Fussa City...
There was a little shopping center just outside the gates of Yokota Air Base. I took...
