Pros: Scenery, variety, friendly people Cons: Security, disorganisation
I lived in Manila three years and one of the highlights of my time there was a trip to the island of Bohol.
You need to fly to Cebu first and then take a ferry. It's worth the trip.
The famous chocolate hills are one of those places...

Mactan, Cebu, Philippines

Pros: The food is terrific at the Cadillac Cafe. Cons: I wish the bands played every night
Mactan Island is the place to visit in the Philippines. There's a small hotel there called the Cadillac Cafe and Hotel. Super place, with Cd player in your room, DVD player, microwave, mini fridge, aircon, generator, and the works. It's great to have a generator at the place because nobody tells you that black outs are common in the Philippines. I've stayed at other places that had no electric for two days! Rock and Roll bands play every Friday and Saturday nights. You can even rent motorbikes there. They have pizzas with real cheese, and barbecued ribs that might be the best I ever tasted. One thing for sure, it's hard to find American Food as good as this when you're in Asia. Cadillac-cafe.com is their website. Be sure to check this place out if you are going anywhere near Cebu Philippines.
