Orchard Road: The Rodeo Drive of Singapore

by Dhano923 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Aug 02 '02
Pros: Great shopping, the top entertainment spot
Cons: none
Singapore, known for its strict governmental laws and cleanliness, is a haven for shoppers. Each year, tourists, especially those from Japan (where prices are much higher) flock to this island to do their shopping and sightseeing. I visit Singapore...

by Powerslave , Mar 24 '00
Pros: Low crime rate, Very clean
Cons: Lots of fines
Ambling our way towards the Persian gulf for our little "vacation" in the sun, we were given the opportunity to stop in Singapore for a couple of days.

The first thing that everyone noticed when we stepped off the ship was the...

Shopaholic nirvana (repost)

by naturalhigh , Apr 13 '00
Pros: A different breath of air if you're comparing to NY or London, but enjoyable nevertheless. Also amazing how they managed to squeeze so many shoplots out of a meagre area.
Cons: Imports, imports and some local things. Relatively expensive as well, providing you know where to shop. Nobody wants to loan you any more money to shop there the second time.
***This is a critically edited review which was one of my earlier writings (because while re-reading the original, I realized I didn't do the product much justice so. In other words, very very bad. So I thought- unless I did something about it, I was...

When being in Singapore isn't being in Singapore

by singaporeboy , Sep 29 '00
Pros: it's fine for luxury item shopping...
Cons: ...but it isn't really Singaporean
Review Topic:  Shopping

There's something, well, just not right about life centered on Orchard Road. I've met tourists and expatriates who live there, shop there, entertain themselves there, socialize there, work out...

Haggling is a beautiful thing

by hartbrook , Apr 02 '00
Pros: Great place to hangout
Cons: The "bosses"
*This is an edited version of my last opinion, because on a recent trip back to Singapore I noticed some changes on Orchard Road, and rediscovered some very important aspects on haggling.

When I lived in Singapore years ago, Orchard Road was...

Heart of Singapore? If shopping's your thing.

by jpenrod , Oct 17 '99
Pros: Shopping, Access to Transportation (MRT, Bus, Taxi), People Watching
Cons: Shopping
For many people Orchard Road IS Singapore. It's basically mile upon mile of shopping malls and hotels, think of it as the Rodeo Drive of Singapore. You've got all the high-fashion, designer stores you could ever desire. Plus a lot restaurants of all...

Transportation a Breeze here!

by x-men , Sep 21 '00
Pros: Cheap and easy transportation method
Cons: Traffic congestion
Review Topic:  Sights & Attractions

Orchard Road is not a road which you can see from one end to another. A breeze walk will take you approximately half an hour to 45 minutes to reach the end.

You will never guess...

Pros: Beautiful
Cons: High prices
Orchard Road is perhaps the idea of "downtown" came from. Very classy and very high tech. As Singapore is well known for, it is a very clean, organized, and classy country.

Orchard Road was full of life. People crowded the...

From trinklets to designer handbags.

by hopnivla , Jun 19 '01
Pros: Shops galore! Air-conditioned relief at the heart of Singapore
Cons: It's basically shops and food. Depends on you =)
There's not much to be said about Orchard Road since it's only your basic shopping district. It's no problem getting here - buses are aplenty, and there are two MRT stations in this stretch.

Well, what is it about?
Orchard Road can...

Orchard Road seemed like another planet

by calgal , Apr 21 '00
Pros: Exciting vibrant good for people watching
Cons: Don't go if you don't like crowds
One evening, I went looking for a bite to eat and discovered a jampacked outdoor shopping extravaganza that went on for miles up and down Orchard Road. It seemed like all of Singapore had shunned the warm daytime and gone shopping in the cool evening....
