Cat Island is one of the 100's of "Out Islands" of the Bahamas. While not for everyone, it is a special place for those that want to get away and back to the Bahamas of years ago.
If you are looking for luxury high-rise hotels, resort...
Pros: Relaxing, soft sand beaches, comfortable house, quiet pace, friendly locals, great fishing, exploring, etc. Cons: No casinos, shopping, activities (if you like them!). A little hard to get to.
My husband and I, with another couple, recently spent a wonderful week on Cat Island. We rented a private home on Fernandez Bay. This is a calm, beautiful beach, with the softest sand I've ever walked on. There is no coral reef on this particular ...
Pros: secluded, hospitable, laid back, good value for money Cons: secluded, no night life
A friend and I just took a four day, three night midweek trip from Nassau to Cat Island. Neither of us had ever been there before, and we have been to several Family islands in the Bahamas. We wanted to relax and hang out, and we got to do exactly...
Pros: Secluded quiet beach, private house, no hustle or bustle. Good scubadiving sites Cons: meal costs a bit high, but it is a remote island.
We recently rented Hibuscus House from Lyn & Bill Barry, located on Fernandez Bay Cat Island BI. Along with another couple we had a most relaxing time. The mile long beach was perfect for walking, the small rock protrusions excellent for snorkelling, and ...
Pros: beautiful beaches, rustic and remote Cons: transportation to, from, and on
where to begin...
four of us just returned from our annual "women on a beach" trip after having taken much time to choose a rental house on cat island as our destination. first I will update the three other members' reports:

Pros: relaxed naturist resort Cons: mostly bad food
Want to lie naked on a white, crescent shaped ocean beach, turquoise waves lapping at your toes? How about a more private alcove, hidden in the rock formations on the bay side, amid trees and dunes and tiny birds sitting on powder blue eggs in their...
Pros: Fantastic beaches, VERY friendly people, great food, peaceful, small resorts, restful Cons: island is not developed(but that's ok by me), off the beaten path, no tourists
After 20 plus years of exploring the caribbean we've finally found our place.FBV is the most tranquil, quiet, and peaceful place. About 10-12 villas and apartments are spread across a fantastic 3/4 mile beach(the best I've ever been on).FBV is a "resort "...
Pros: Beautiful beaches, wonderfully equipped house rental, unspoiled island experience Cons: Commercial air service, FBV no longer serving meals to those not staying there
The Barry's have a wonderful home that they were kind enough to let us use. Situated on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it had all the comforts of home. The games came in really handy when we had several days of rainy weather. The truck was great to run errands and explore the island in search of the perfect conch fritter. A fully equipped kitchen was a great asset allowing us to prepare family meals at the house. We have two small children and the prospect of entertaining them for an hour(or two) while dinner was being prepared at a restaurant was not appealing. Our television was the envy of friends staying at FBV.
The island itself is off the beaten tourist path, which may make it difficult to get to. This is a good thing. It has kept the island relatively unchanged. Nothing much to do. A little shopping, a little exploring and chance to meet the wonderful local people. The perfect place to vacation.
After a 10 days stay in san-salvador (club med, great!!!), we recently stayed in Cat Island for 5 days.
The hotel chosen was the hawks nest, located at the extreme south west of the island.
The island is definitely a great place if you're looking for tremendous virgin white/pink sand beach, but just be informed that the standard picture you could expect may be false if you don't make the right choice.
Hawks nest is comfortable and very well equipped, but the beach is small and artificial. The pool is nice but they probably forgot that cleaning is sometimes necessary.
The price is very high compared to the level of service offered, and you should be careful to the invoice before paying (3 mistakes for ours ...).
Finally, after making a little comparison, the Greenwood beach resort (south east) is much more prettier, the beach is wonderful, and the prices are more reasonable.
