Pros: Beautiful beach, private, quiet, all-inclusive Cons: Dull and lifeless
Club Fortuna Beach is an all-inclusive beach resort near Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. The resort is fairly secluded, located about 5 or 10 miles from the town. There are no other resorts of any consequence nearby, making it at once more private than...
Pros: all-inclusive. Beach Front. Lots of activities Cons: What is with these rooms? Food gets old rather quickly...
In the tradition of the honeymoon, my new husband and I decided to escape the rain torrents of Ohio and run to the sun. Bahamas. That sounds good. That sounds really good.
We had a vacation voucher for Viva Club Fortuna, which is an...
Pros: Port Lucaya Marketplace is wonderful (although they don't haggle at the straw market) Cons: nothing else of note, mostly generic forests, Freeport very run down and economically depressed
To my extreme disappointment, all but one Freeport shore excursion was cancelled at the last minute during my recent Bahamas cruise. The tour operators decided that at a mere 80 degrees out, it wasn't warm enough for any water activities be they boating ...
Pros: Beautiful beaches, wonderful hospitality, entertainment, gambling (which could be a CON!) Cons: Venders could be quite persistent.
My husband and I never really got a honeymoon after we were married, so on Valentines of 1998 he surprised me with a planned vacation to the Grand Bahamas. We had never been anywhere tropical before, so this long awaited trip could not approach us...
Pros: The Staff Cons: Rooms; restaurant on site; the bathroom
My husband I went to the Bahamas in March 2002 as a weekend get-away for my birthday. Unfortunately for us, we stayed at the Port Lucaya Resort and Yacht Club. First of all, there are many resorts that have "Lucaya" in the title, so I want to make sure...
Pros: Beautiful beaches, low $$ available Cons: Can get a little boring if you don't know where to go for fun
Last April I went with my girlfriends to all-inclusive Club Fortuna on Grand Bahama Island. We happened to fall upon what we thought was a really good deal ($600/person included everything, flight from Boston, transfers, hotel, food & drinks for 4...
Pros: good prices, loads of fun, go with the flow Cons: plan ahead
Grand Bahama Island is great if you do not expect to much. We have been 5 times and stayed at various properties. Favorite is the Port Lucaya Yacht club. Pretty much clean and decent service. Close to things to do, and close to the beach. Here are...
Pros: Tons of things to see and do, very friendly people, clean environment Cons: getting on and off the ship takes forever! Watch out crossing the streets - they drive on the LEFT over there!
I just returned from one of the best vacations I've ever had. I would even venture to say it might rank number one. Definitely in the top three!
Our adventure began at 6:45 Friday morning, as our group gathered at the Discovery Cruise line in...
Pros: Wonderful island hospitality Cons: My trip was too short!
Hey now, Mon... your boss may not suddenly announce that your company is treating the staff to a three-day getaway cruise to the Bahamas... like mine did! But even if you have to pay your own way, this place is definitely worth your visit....
Pros: none Cons: too much money for very little in return
Freeport is a place that looks like someone started something about 20 years ago, forgot what they were doing and never finished it. We visited last year and were happy to leave. This is not a place to go and relax. The hotel properties are tired and...
I love to travel and Freeport Bahamas was one of my first Caribbean vacations. If you ever want to visit a tropical desert then Freeport is for you; or if you are stressed and want to get away from people this is also the vacation for you.
Pros: relaxing, almost empty beach during off season Cons: boring night life
My husband and I just recently took our first trip to Grand Bahama Island and all I can say is that it was a nice relaxing getaway, but if you are looking for fun and excitement, you might want to look elsewhere. We took a direct flight out of...
Pros: Very friendly people, beautiful beaches and resorts, lots of daytime activity Cons: A lot more expensive than many other islands near/in the Caribbean, also lacking in nightlife
We arrived at Grand Bahama International airport early afternoon after a very long morning. It was very hot and muggy out, all we wanted to do was check into the hotel and go take a swim in one of the resorts four pools. And then we saw the lines for...
Pros: Very reasonable cost for what we got Cons: Need better directional signs onboard
===singing=== Sailing, sailing, over the bounding waves... Planning a Bahamas vacation? You might want to seriously consider flying into Fort Lauderdale (unless you are fortunate enough to live here) and booking a cruise on Discovery! Just last...
Here a smile, there a smile... everywhere a smile-smile... this was my impression of the Lucayan Resort in Freeport, Grand Bahama. These people have tourism down to a fine art, and I told many of them so! This time last weekend I was there!!! ...
Pros: Flight and all-inclusive packages available Cons: Flat soda!

Pros: Beautiful Beaches, clear blue waters, friendly natives, and a great hotel for the price! Cons: The downtown area was a bit run down but far away from our new hotel.

Pros: Great value, Very nice resort Cons: Pushy vendors, average cleanliness

Pros: Great weather, nice people Cons: Closed on Sunday

Pros: Very relaxing and worry free Cons: Hard sell on the vacation club

Pros: relaxed Cons: not a lot of nightlife or non-beach related activities
Though it's a very touristy destination, it's worth the trip. The major attraction there, is of course the beach. So if you're looking for fun in the sun, this may be the place to go. The weather is always perfect, the natives are SO friendly, and the...
Pros: wonderful beaches, great weather Cons: poor service, expensive
Back in the summer of 1998, I "won" a trip for two to Freeport/Port Lucaya. Now I am writing this article because this trip seemed to be very popular as a "prize" for trying out timeshares or shopping services. Anyway, this is a...

Pros: Very few interesting places. Cons: Boring, unsafe, ugly.
I went to Freeport back in 1992, and have never wanted to go back. There was simply nothing to do there. It is the most boring place I have ever been to, and I would not recommend anyone to go there. If you think it's okay that there's nothing to do,...
Pros: Crystal Clear Water & Beautiful White Beaches Cons: Dirty with litter and run down homes or half built homes

Pros: So friendly, fun, safe, and accomodating:) Cons: can't think of any.
We just returned from a one week trip to Grand Bahamas and the best part of our trip was scuba diving with Grand Bahamas Scuba. Fred and Melinda are absolutely fantastic and are super laid back yet safe dive masters which is the best of both worlds. We actually did theo's wreck and a shark dive for the same price as a regular two tank dive and Melinda emailed us pictures of our week for free too. They were so friendly and fun that we just had the best time with them. We went with them because we heard some suspect things about UNEXSCO, and we have never been happier with a dive operation and we've dove in Cozumel, Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba, Cancun, and Maui. I would highly recommend them.

The entertainment was wonderful as well. My friends and I dance the night away over at the Port Lucaya. Very social and safe atmosphere.
getting around was not a problem, because everything was in reach. I really loved the people over there they was very, very, very nice to us. even when we went out to dinner the services was really great and our food was hot.
My friends and I will definitely return there again.
I guess everyone experiences are different. So those of you who are reading this and haven't visited Freeport,Grand Bahama as yet don't base your decision on our comments go and experience it for yourself, because what I might enjoy you might not and vise-versa. You really won't know how a place is until you go and experience it for yourself.
