Pros: Great sunsets, good booze, nice hotels. Cons: Get hassled, quite expensive, bit dull.
Barbados is one of the main tourist Islands in the Caribbean Islands being popular with Brits, Americans and Germans. It was a British Crown possession from 1663 to 1966 when it gained its independence. It is renowned for its beautiful white sandy ...
Pros: PLENTY of taxis available. CHEAP spices! BEAUTIFUL beaches! Cons: A little too developed.
"HEY! Do you want a tour?" "Here! Let me take you on a tour!" No, thanks, we just want a ride into town which can be had for $1-2. Cab drivers were almost tripping over themselves to get your attention to take you on a tour.
Pros: Weather, Beaches, Sites, Beautiful Scenery Cons: Pride of their people can be mistaken for unfriendliness
Are you longing for a tropical Caribbean paradise that has it all? Barbados is a good bet! The British atmosphere is maintained with several traditions of the colonial era. Barbados was ruled by Britain for 350 years until gaining their...
Pros: The weather, the beaches & sea, the food and everything about Carriacou. Cons: The cost of food and accommodation, although better value on Carriacou.
My boyfriend and I traveled to the Caribbean on 9th March 2004 for three weeks. The plan was to try and backpack to save cost and ensure we found accommodation we were happy with in a place we wanted to be, rather than what youd get with ...
Pros: Good mix of sand, surf, tourist attractions, and action. Cons: More crowded than other resort islands; bad traffic and confusing roads.
I have a business connection to Barbados, and have been there 2 to 4 times a year over the last ten years. So, I thought I'd write a travel review from my perspective as a frequent visitor, but not really a tourist. The ...
Pros: Lovely sea and sand. Good food Cons: Disappointing overall. Don't expect 4* unless the new changes have radically altered it.
We stayed here for 1 week in Jan 2004. It was 4* Allocation on arrival holiday with Airtours (as was before they disappeared). The chances were we could be allocated Almond beach, which looked great and we hoped we wouldn't get stuck with the 'Sea ...
Pros: Lots to do! Friendly people. A lovely, diverse island. Cons: Expensive. Bridgetown proper seems dirty to some.
For the last 13 years weve spent the North American winters in Barbados. Flying in to Grantley Adams airport one is treated with a view of paradise that awaits. Barbados has a population of almost 280,000 people. About 80% of Barbados ...
Pros: Reasonable prices, clean, well maintained and great water sports for free. Cons: Off-site, walking to attractions is a hike.
The Hilton Barbados is the place to stay if you are looking for reliable accommodations and reasonable prices. Most important, if you are a Hilton Honors Gold Member, or can become one by staying enough times at Hilton before your trip, make sure upon ...
Pros: Atmosphere, weather, price, food, activities Cons: Those damn long-distance surcharges on hotel phones
There's something about going to a foreign country where the indigenous people speak English and still like Americans. Maybe it's the novelty. Maybe it's the overwhelmingly isolationist view we have of the world ("EVERYBODY speaks English- or ...
Pros: Great beaches, nice people, low crime Cons: Expensive, rather crowded
Barbados has terrific beaches and friendly people, but it isn't a place where you can easily get away from it all. I stayed at the Sandy Beach Hotel in St. Lawrence Gap on the south coast of the island, and found that we were right on the busy main...
Pros: Beautiful, peaceful vacation spot Cons: Can get a little expensive
I went to Barbados last December, and it was the most relaxing vacation I've ever taken. It stays around 80-85 degrees in December, which is a welcome change from the 40 degrees in New York upon departure.
Pros: Great weather, reasonable prices, English speaking Cons: give me a minute, maybe I'll think of one
My goal is to visit all the islands in the tropical part of the world at least once. I've been to Barbados a couple of times, always in the December - January time frame, so my comments on prices and weather may not apply at other times of the year. ...
Pros: Lots to do, beautiful beaches, appropriate for all ages Cons: high prices
As a Bajan (I was born and raised in Barbados), I can say with certainty that Barbados is a beautiful place with much to offer. Whether you are going with your family or for a honeymoon, you won't be disappointed. If you go for a summer vacation you...
Pros: Great for relaxing, even with kids Cons: The food stunk, the bulldozers were noisy
I just returned from a 10-day stay in Barbados. The people there are wonderful, and they should be. Their Number one form of income is from tourism. The West Coast of the island that faces the Caribbean and is where all of the resorts are located is...
Now granted I haven't been to all the islands in the Caribbean yet, but it will be hard to top the beautiful island of Barbados. It was June of 1999 that I went. The weather was a comfortable 82 degrees during the day and never dipped below 70 degrees...
Let me start by saying I believe firmly in getting the word out on good resorts and hotels. I always believed that when I find excellence in the service or hotel industry it's only fair to reward it by letting others know and possibly drumming up word of...
Pros: Great landscape, great people Cons: Drinking water, boil it if not bottled...
Cricket remains the national obsession of this Caribbean country, named "Little England." You can observe all children trying to learn and play the game wherever you go on the island. From the time they can hold a stick, they get out of the...
Pros: Lobby set in colonial West Indian mansion surrounded by Flamboyant trees. Cons: Wait staff served guests like cattle on a conveyor belt.
En route our honeymoon destination of Petit St. Vincent in August 2000, we missed our connection on Barbados because of mechanical problems on our American Airlines flight. American gave us vouchers for dinner, overnight lodging and breakfast at Sam...
Pros: island, people, relaxing, good food and drinks Cons: roads, food cost, air fair a little steep with limited times - check the internet for deals
What a beautiful island - made even more beautiful by it's people. When first planning to go to Barbados - we were informed that it was a 'developing nation'. So we weren't real sure what to expect. By American standards it may be a relatively poor...
Pros: inexpensive clubs, beautiful beaches great food. Cons: taxis take forever
I arrived in Barbados July 14. We stayed at Divi southwinds on the south coast. The first night there I ate at a great restaurant (I highly recommend it) called Pisces in St. Lawrence Gap. The fresh fish and salads were amazing. After we went to this...
Alright...so Barbados might not be for everyone (it is for everyone unless you can't stand flying or cruising to get there). Barbados, formerly a protectorate of Britain is one of those special places which one will never forget. Recently, we took our...
Pros: beaches, water, weather, speak English Cons: Unfriendly people, few reef fish, expensive restaurants
It is early July, and I just returned from Barbados. The island has much to recommend it. Beautiful sand beaches, warm clear water, lush island greenery and a scenic, wave washed east coast. I went with a dive group and we dived every morning and spent...
Pros: Lots to do, wonderful Bajans, food, music! Cons: A rather large island and difficult to see without private transportation -- roads are poor
We're two-time visitors to this glorious island, both times in July during Cropover. Barbados is indeed a paradise for those of us who love tropical getaways: friendly people, beautiful beaches, interesting places to see, incredible food, fine rum,...
Pros: Larger island with more to do Cons: Poverty outside the capitol is apparent
Barbados is larger than most of the islands so there is a bit more to do than usual.
A walking tour of downtown Bridgetown makes for a wonderful adventure and you can shop at places where the islanders shop. Even if you are in for a one day...
October is not the time to go to Barbados, it rained every day, early in the morning. But the afternoons were beautiful. I stayed at the Divi Southwinds which was very nice. Ask for the Ocean view rooms on the beach. There is a set of rooms which are...
I have been lucky to have been returning to Barbados every Christmas for nearly all of my life (I’m 27)
Whilst there have been changes – much more tourism, new hotels – considering the increase in visitors it has managed to maintain an unspoilt...
Pros: A great place for a girly holiday but actually it caters for everyone Cons: Apparently drugs and violence but we didn't see any
In mid November we had the best holiday in Barbados and for £400 flight and accommodation (take a look at www.hotfootholidays.com). We stayed in Yellow Bird Hotel in St Lawrence Gap with a view of a stunning bay and just a stroll into The Gap with all ...
Pros: The weather, the hotel, the guided tours, the water, the beaches, the landscape Cons: Expensive restaurants, harassing salesmen on the beaches
We traveled May 2003 and stayed at the Blue Horizon Hotel. Another reviewer here also stayed there, but I have a different opinion than his about the hotel. We felt the staff there was quite friendly and helpful. In fact, the hotel was one of the best...
Honestly, I think just about all of the Caribbean islands are paradise. However, we had an especially great time in Barbados. Instead of arranging a tour thru our cruise ship, we hired a local dive shack to take us diving and snorkeling. These guys...
Pros: A wonderful island with many surprises. Cons: None.
The best way to see Barbados is like a native. A four hour trip from Miami, Florida, its worth the time. First you will arrive and be surprised the you will have to walk down the stairs of your plane, but you walk into a beautiful fairly new airport. ...
Pros: beautiful beaches, friendly natives, Sam Lord's Castle Cons: too far to drive there!
Barbados is one of my all-time favorite vacation spots, and I have been to Hawaii, Cancun, Aruba, Key West, so my standards for a good tropical vacation are pretty high!
Okay, it's been many many years since I've been to Barbados so please...
Pros: Great Caribbean destination, Incredibly friendly people Cons: Looong flight from Miami, can rain sometimes
We stayed at Almond Beach Village, and everyone was great to us. We got a tremendous bargain from Skyauction. The island is beautiful, and the people are very polite and courteous. We rented a car, and had a great time getting lost and seeing the...
Pros: Impeccable weather, fabulous food, culture, world's best rum Cons: Beggars, crazy drivers
Where to begin...
First and foremost - the postcards don't lie. Barbados is as stunning, both physically and culturally, as the travel brochures and TV ads depict it to be. To fully experience and enjoy bajan life, though, you have to...
Pros: Good weather, lovely breezes, neat shopping; wonderful, friendly, courteous people.
Cons: The roads narrow and not well marked (NO signs), easy to get lost
DH and I just returned from a one week stay in Barbados. We found our apartment on the internet and certainly had a few trepidations about what we might find when we arrived there. We were met at Grantley Adams by the owners of the Rosalie ...
Pros: Beautiful island Cons: Abusive people, very expensive
The Island
Gorgeous, with plenty of beaches to know and things to do. Surfing, wind surfing, snorkeling, diving, relaxing and drinking beer. Whatever you like, you can do it in Barbados, and no mater what you will find some world class scenery....
Sitting in my personal villa at the Coral Reef Club, a squeak come from a tree. I look up and, behold, I see a monkey staring at me, or rather, my breakfast and banana. I peel the banana and toss it to the ground. The monkey comes up and eats next to...
Pros: sun, sea, sand and ambience Cons: the prices of goods and services
So i finally saved enough money to go to the west indies!!>>As the plane circled over Grantley Adams International Airport my heart thumped as I saw the aquamarine ocean beneath me.........
Barbados is a beautiful island of 166sq km in the eastern...
Pros: Beaches, Fish, Climate Cons: Summer humidity, local panhandlers.
I have been to Barbados about 7 times now. We have travelled during the summer and winter months. I can honestly say, you are best to go between November and March. The summer months are brutal. The humidity is a killer. During the winter months,...
Pros: small enough to spend most of your time enjoys every hour of the day Cons: prices might be a little expensive
I has been my pleasure for almost 17 years. When i left England with my mother in 1967, I was relocated to the beautiful island of Barbados. This small island had been my life for almost 16 years before coming to the USA.
I recommend it anyone who...
Mixed Feelings about Barbados... by amybear ,Jul 03 '04
Pros: Great Beaches,,snorkeling, the flying fish is delecious! Cons: The Men are aggressive at times...Everything quite pricey down there..bring plenty of $$$
O.k..Let me preface this review by first stating for the record that I am a single, white female who visited Barbados on my own..
I will say now that I would NEVER advice a single woman to go to Barbados alone...Unless you're comfortable with the leers, the comments,,the street vendors and beach vendors harrasing you on a constant basis..
I'm really sorry to have to write this type of a review,,but I must be honest, and if it will help some other lone female traveler like myself,,,then good.
Barbados has alot of fun beaches, things to do,,and the people in general are very nice and friendly...
I would definitely suggest staying on the west coast though,,,NOT in St.Lawrence Gap(where I stayed)..There's too much "local riff raff" hanging around the area...
West coast is more expensive but you'll get better treatment...and you'll be better off..
All in all,,,Barbados was an interesting place to visit...but I doubt you'd ever get me down there again...
At least not with out an escort!!!
Pros: Beach, restaurants, people. Cons: Prices, shopping.
We just came back from Barbados and really liked it. We stayed at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion on the west coast. Very nice place. Great beach, good service, friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this resort. The downsides (which applies not just to the hotel) are: expensive food, high taxi prices, not very good shopping. Bring lots of cash for watersports guys on beach if you're into that. Also, if you want to buy liquor for use while on the island expect to pay $35 US and up for 1 bottle. Duty free prices are very good but only if you have them send the bottles to the airport to pick up when you leave. As far as restaurants go definitely try The Cliff (make reservations before you leave U.S.), Calabazza, Calambora, Tides. Average cost for two will run $130 and up U.S.
Pros: beautifu Island, beaches, people, Cons: Not enough time
On my last trip my husband and I planned on a taxi our last trip but the fare is horrendous. Imagine this for US$65.00 per person we visited Harrisons Cave, Orchid World, St Johns Church, Bathsheba, Had a great Lunch Visited the Reserve and drove through the West Coast including Holetown . In addition to this our guide from Glory Tours was wonderful and knowledgeable http://glorytours.org http://glorytours.org We fell in love with the Island so much that day we decided to rent a car from Stoutes Car Rental http://www.stoutescar.com/ http://www.stoutescar.com which also proved a wonderful decision.
My husband loves Sporting Clays on arrival my husband was very quick to discover Kendal Sporting
http://kendalsportingclaysbarbados.com
We where very fortunate to meet Richard Bradshaw one of the directors of the Club. He was a great instructor and gave me a thorough education on the correct way to handle a rifle and a pistol. Before this experience I was nervous about rifles and pistols but thanks to my new education from Kendal Sporting I am now alot more confident.
I had a fantastic lunch at the Club It was a wonderful day one of three we spent at the facility.
