Pros: secluded gorgeous getaway just hours from the Eastern US Cons: Looking for a mega resort? Try another island.
Virgin Gorda is as beautiful, unique, and unspoiled today as it was in 1982 when I first vacationed there. We've gone back four times since then, most recently last summer and are still absolutely in love with the beauty of the island and the people. There are few vacation destinations so close to the eastern US that feel so far away. Immerse yourself in gorgeous coral reefs, enjoy the natural beauty of the island without interruption by mega resorts or busy thoroughfares so common on many other Caribbean islands. Visit The Bath & Turtle Pub down at the Yacht Harbor and be sure to investigate the ruins of an abandoned coal mine at the tip of the island. Although much smaller than Tortola or other Caribbean islands, there are plenty of activities including scuba diving, windsailing, waterskiing, and short ferry rides to other nearby islands (Tortola only about 30 mins./ St. Thomas about 1.5 hours).
Paperback, Virgin Islands This edition provides comprehensive coverage of both the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, including St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, Tortola, Virgin G...
