In the middle of March 2002, I visited the British Virgin Islands with a total of five other family members. We left from JFK airport in New York, traveling through San Juan, Puerto Rico, onwards to Beef Island airport in Tortola. We left New York ...
Pros: If you want to relax and unwind on vacation, you will not find better. Cons: None
ScubaMom has already written an extensive review of Guana Island and I see no reason to duplicate that excellent effort. However, my wife and I spent a week on Guana recently, and we had a wonderful time. It was really quite an exceptional vacation....
Pros: Freedom and sunshine Cons: Rain can screw up your vacation
One of the nicest ways to see the British Virgin Islands is from the deck of a sailboat. Sailing here is pleasant. The wind is usually good, and I haven't experienced choppy water. I have seen dolphin and giant turtles while sailing from island to...
Pros: Unspoiled beautiful peaceful islands of love. Cons: You may have to leave one day.

I moved to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands in 1978, and for the next 20 years was a permanent resident. Now that I have moved back to the States, I often feel a twinge of pain, deep in my soul,...
Pros: Excellent for snorkeling and scuba. Cons: Locals seem "envious" of tourists, 50% warm-n-fuzzy; 50% not so WNF.
I spent a week with my husband who was on business, trying out the local tourist scene on my own during the day. We stayed at the Prospect Reef Resort on Tortola, BVI. The resort has multiple buildings, some of the older buildings are located in a...
Pros: very good restaurants, beaches, and people. good ferry service to other islands Cons: a bit expensive, driving is not for the meek
Over the years, we've been the the BVI's a total of five times. My wife and i have had extended have had extended stays on Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and Anegada. While all three islands are very much different in pyhsical charateristics, they all have one...
Pros: Beautiful, still "natural," tons to do Cons: none that I can think of
The British Virgin Islands are some of the most beautiful Islands in the world. They are a whole bunch of little islands and cays spread over a large area, which provides for some great Scuba diving/snorkeling, and other water activities. The Virgin...
Pros: Beautiful, excellent snorkeling Cons: non existant
My family and I are sailors born and raised. We own our own thirty seven foot Tartan sailboat in New England, so we decided to charter a boat in the Caribbean.
Since then, we have been there approximately 8 times, and every year it gets...
Pros: Beautiful beaches. Friendly people. Excellent food. Very safe. Wonderful villas. Cons: Are there any? Not too much night life. A little pricey - but worth it!
My husband and I rented a villa on Tortola for our Honeymoon in early May 2000. We couldn't have picked a more perfect spot. We stayed at Villa Laguna in Apple Bay on the North West end of the island (villalaguna.com or cvillas.com). It was beautiful...
Pros: Strong drinks, live music Cons: Mushrooms and mushroom tea are fake, expensive, commercialized
Our anticipation of the Bomba shack full moon party was that you could drink free psychodelic mushroom tea (which is legal to consume in the BVI), and trip through the night. What we found was quite different, I will detail our visit.
It started by...
Pros: GGGreat snorkeling, Unique island experiences Cons: I don't live there
I went in April a few years ago for a four day weekend and loved it. We rented a villa on a hill overlooking a beach on Tortola. Many say the BVI is the best place for snorkeling in the Caribbean. We saw all sorts of colorful tropical fish, coral, and a...

For two weeks in July of 2002 me, my brother, my grandparents, and my aunt and uncle lived off of a 52 foot Beneteau sailboat in the British Virgin Islands (the BVI). This was a trip I'll never forget.
We chartered the boat through Conch...

I recently took my second trip to the British Virgin Islands in October of 2000. Prior to going, I scoured the tour books for ideas on unique things to do while there. One of them was to visit the island...
Pros: Adventure when you want it, relaxing anytime Cons: Can be expensive
Want to get away from it all? Sail the British Virgin Islands by chartering a sailboat or catamaran and let the fun and relaxing begin.
I recently have returned from a trip sailing the BVI. A 44ft Catamaran was the choice of 4 of us for this...
Pros: Best way to see the islands Cons: Summers can be warm
I have sailed twice in the BVI and feel it is truly a sailor's paradise. The sailing is done by visual navigation and as the islands are roughly arranged in a ring, the channel inside is fairly well protected. Winds tend to be heavier in the winter...
Pros: beauty, charm, peace and quiet, island life Cons: travel to/from (boat only), available groceries
While planning another visit to the island of Jost Van Dyke (BVI), I thought others might like to share this almost private island. Although I would dread too many people, it is too beautiful to keep to myself. My first visit was by chartered sailboat...
Pros: nice accommodations with great views Cons: poor service, expensive food & accommodations
Long Bay Beach Resort is a truly beautiful resort with breathtaking views. Accommodations range from hillside suites to beachfront cabanas. All rooms are spacious and airy. We stayed in a hillside suite which showed its age in areas such as the...
Pros: Quite, beautiful beaches and good food Cons: pricey !!
We just returned (10/28/00) from our third trip to this beautiful island. Having been there several times we pretty much knew exactly what and where we wanted to go. Long Bay is probably the best place to stay on Tortola, although it is not cheap. The...
Pros: Lots of greenery, crystal-clear waters, Cons: Small but expensive (It all depends...)
The British Virgin Islands is known as the sailor's paradise. If you are a sailor, you must already know what I am talking about. The cool breeze of the Caribbean lets you enjoy a good stay there. Fish abound. You can go sports fishing while...
Pros: quite a few islands to visit, unique things at each place, amazing snorkeling Cons: you have to go through customs and pay to leave
I have never actually stayed in the BVi's, but I have visited several times by boat. Each time I was staying on either St John or St Thomas and chartered private tours to explore the BVI's, which is the best way to get to know them.
Each island...

Pros: excellent services and view of the ocean Cons: expensive

British Virgin Islands, Lovely, quiet, and the Baths! by popsrocks in Hotels & Travel, - Top 50,Sep 09 '03
Pros: Can be easily visited for a day trip or more from the US Virgin Islands. Cons: Some parts of the islands are hard to get to
Having taken a side trip to the BVI from the US Virgin Islands just a few weeks ago, I have a few quick tips. Yes, they do speak English. They use the American Dollar not the British Pound. ATMs are available. You do need a passport to get in and out.
These islands are quieter than the US Virgin Islands. They have a gentle trade wind that keeps things comfortable when out of direct sun.
50% of all visitors go to the Baths on Virgin Gorda. They are beautiful. The snorkeling is also amazing!
These islands are prime sailing destinations.

Peter Island was GREAT!!!! by rollinzeba ,Oct 09 '03
Pros: Great beachfront rooms, great service, wonderful food, unbelievable beaches & very few kids. Cons: Slow service at meals.
I went to Peter Island on my Honeymoon. We were impressed around every corner. The beachfront rooms are awesome! The beaches are quiet and beautiful. We were there a week and never got bored. Kids are highly discouraged and there are no programs for kids so it makes it a perfect island for honeymooners and anniversaries. I will return soon. The only negative.. the restuarant staff works on "island time.".... slow service.
