Pros: secluded getaway with white sand beaches Cons: not for the resort types
Culebra – An Anniversary to Remember.
If you are looking for a secluded getaway, beautiful white sand beaches, and a chance to kick back and enjoy “island time” with nothing to distract you, then Culebra is the place to go. Culebra is like...
Pros: One fot the most beautiful beaches in the world. Cons: crowded.
What can I say…the day I spent on the Puerto Rican island of Culebra, I felt as though I was in heaven. Playa Flamenco, the major beach on the island, very much lived up to its acclaim as the second most beautiful beach in North America (the...
Pros: An island paradise with stunning scenery, friendly people and turtles. Cons: Come at the right time of year - and it's getting busier all the time!
Culebra, a sparkling jewel of an island located just off the north east tip of Puerto Rico. Miles of golden sandy beaches, friendly people, stunning seas, amazing weather and, at the right times of the year, leatherback turtles dragging themselves onto th ...
Pros: Great waterfront view, walk to town, nearby dock, nice tropical setting Cons: Many steps, not handicapped friendly. Minimum 1-week stay. No credit cards, but take checks.
My wife and I stayed at Casa Las Palmas on Culebra last year. It is a rental villa right on the bay about half a mile or so south of town, toward the Caribbean side. The main house has three bedrooms (one of them pretty small), a kitchen with a full ...
Pros: Laid back, uncrowded, great snorkeling, cheap rooms. Cons: No hot water, a little inaccessible.
We decided to visit Culebra after consulting numerous Puerto Rico guidebooks that noted its LACK of large hotels, golf courses, casinos, etc. - all the "amenities" that make San Juan so unappealing.
My boyfriend and I visited Culebra at the end of April for four days. We took the 20 minute Isla Nena flight from San Juan which is not for the weak-heart! However, the views of the Puerto Rican coastline are absolutely breathtaking and it is extremely...
Pros: deserted beaches, cheap prices, beautiful waters, friendly people Cons: mosquitoes - bring your OFF!!!
GO TO CULEBRA!
I just returned from a 5 night trip to Puerto Rico on the US Air E-Saver fare, $199rt from Philadelphia. We spent two nights in Old San Juan, one night beachfront in the Condado, and two nights in Culebra.
Pros: beaches, nature, unspoiled, easy to get to Cons: no fancy hotels, casinos, similar excitement
We recently spent a week on Culebra, a relatively undiscovered Caribbean island, although it's right under the area's busiest air route, between San Juan and St. Thomas. Culebra is easy and inexpensive to get to as far as Caribbean destinations go. Many...
Pros: snorkeling, good beaches, reasonable Cons: Rustic, can be buggy
If you want a rustic, reasonable beach vacation with good snorkeling, Culebra might be the place. I'm not into the generic resort scene at all, so Isle Verde in San Juan does nothing for me, plus there are too many people. To get to Culebra take a bus,...
Pros: idyllic, friendly, cheap Cons: flight in can be a bit scary
Culebra is the Caribbean before big anonymous resorts. Very small and about a 30 minute flight from San Juan it is an undiscovered gem. The island has a few small hotels but we rented a house for the week in high season(winter). At $1000 for the week...
Pros: Flamenco Beach is beautiful
Culebra Beach Villas are right on Flamenco beach (steps away) Cons: The villas are poorly managed
The villas in the main building smell musty
Just visited Flamenco Beach in Culebra this past weekend. The beach is beautiful. Even if you're submerged up to your neck in the water you can still see your toes. Crystal-clear! The villas, however, were another story. They are poorly managed. ...
We visited this so called resort for two days in February 2003. When my wife and I arrived, the office was closed and no one was around. Finally after finding someone, we were told the room was not ready. They suggested we spend the day on the beach out...
Pros: Fantastic, relatively isolated beaches Cons: No nightlife and very few restaurants
About halfway between the main island of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands lies the beautiful 7-mile long island of Culebra. Culebra's proximity to the U.S. Virgin Islands partly explains the exquisite beaches on this island (i.e., the beaches are...
Pros: Absolute quiet and relaxation at off-peak times. Cons: Few restaurants, no nightlife.
Culebra is a wonderful choice for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation away from the tourist scene. Avoid holidays, and you’ll have the beaches all to yourself. My boyfriend and I arrived Labor Day Monday as everyone else was returning to...
Pros: non commercial, low-key, pristine beaches Cons: bugs galore, jeep rentals are pricey
just got back from culebra. beautiful island. zoni beach is total paradise, very secluded and worth the rough ride to get to. as far as accomodations go, Club Seabourne is great. nice outdoor bar and excellent restaurant. airy rooms with a/c and hot...
Pros: VIRGIN-untouched-untouristy island. Extremely friendly locals-Quiet and natural, roosters, turkeys, chickens are everywhere Cons: Merciless Mosquitos, Beaches have no hotels nearby
Culebra is a must when visiting Puerto Rico..But please be assured that it is a very much a virgin island..So if you are into nature and snorkeling and waking up to the sounds of roosters--It's a great place. I would recommend staying at Kokomo's Hotel, right off the ocean, where the ferry stops. It's clean, comparatively cheap, and the American owners are very pleasant. Go to Mamacitas for dinner and breakfast--they also have excellent music when it comes to nighttime partying. Their most famous beach is Flamenco...if you go there towards evening time PLEASE BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT!!Unless you want to be eaten alive..Also, do not expect for the beaches to have hotels around them---They don't!! So either take a very early ferry from Puerto Rico to Culebra and spend the day there, or if you have a tent, you can camp out on the beaches.. Enjoy and I hope this review helped b/c I just got back from Puerto Rico on 7/6/04
I went last weekend. Stayed in Villa 18 and it's been totally renewed. 3 bedrooms, 2 bath. A/C, kitchen, BB-Q,terrace all around the house and one of the most beautiful beach of the world. Rent a car. Buy groceries. And your set. For a group of 6-8 is a bargain.
