Vienna 2008 (and Christmas Markets 2007)

by masonbarge , May 08 '08
Pros: Fabulous music, art, architecture, and excellent public transportation. World's best coffee.
Cons: Expensive! (And, if you are overweight, embarrassing.)
Background and Christmas Markets: My wife and I visited Vienna (Wien, in German) for the first time in December-January, 2007-08. I had always wanted to see the Christmas markets in Austria and Bavaria, so we put Vienna as the start and end point of ...

A trip of a life time full of memories

by ovni68 , Jul 26 '06
Pros: You learn so much more history that the textbooks teach you
Cons: with a weaker U.S. dollar it will cost you a bit more.
We recently visited Vienna in June of 2006 and I found this city to be as magical as the Johan Strauss waltzes describe it. It is full of culture and it is a “must” destination for art and opera lovers. It is very cosmopolitan as many ...

Vienna Sight Seeing Tour and Royal Tour review

by va3wyu , Jun 04 '05
Pros: Royal Tour is better value
Cons: Vienna Sight Seeing Tour over priced, not professional
We went to Budapest with Vienna Sight Seeing Tour (http://www.viennasightseeingt ours.com), and to Prague with Royal Tour. We were very disappointed with Vienna Sight-Seeing Tour. There were only 7 of us in the tour. The tour was actually done by Euro ...

A trip to see some dancing horses and pretty buildings in Wien. Vienna Austria

by travelgall Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Sep 15 '04
Pros: Beautiful Buildings, great Coffee and cakes.
Cons: More than a tad expensive. Dislike Opera? - Vienna isn't the place to go.
Getting into Vienna involved a pretty easy train journey from Bratislava in Slovakia. The journey takes about 1 hour; they run frequently and get you within striking distance of civilisation. We arrived at the SudBahnhof in Vienna, and then took a 10 ...

How Shall One Say, Direktor? … Too Many Notes …

by AlanCrax , Nov 01 '03
Pros: A beautiful, fascinating, historic, cultural masterpiece of a place
Cons: Time is too short!!
I have been captivated, my heart has been captured. Circumstances dictated a change of vacation this summer. So, instead of going to Florida (as usual) we chose a week’s break in Vienna, capital of Austria. This city is a beautiful, fascinating, histo ...

Vienna: Grand city of Imperial Nostalgia

by actonsteve , Jan 19 '03
Pros: The Austrian culture, architecture, baroque churches and sheer elegance
Cons: Maybe a little quiet for some - not as rocking as London or Madrid
Vienna is one of the legendary cities of the world. It was the centre of one of the greatest and longest living empire's that Europe has ever seen. And reminders of this past greatness are on every street corner and also it is a city poised to take...

Vienna off-season

by fredddy , Nov 25 '02
Pros: historical sites, culture, public transport, friendly laid-back city
Cons: only in the eye of the beholder
We stayed in Vienna for two weeks in November 2002. One of us spent a university year in Vienna many moons ago. We are recently retired and travel frequently, trying to time our trips to the off-season. While Vienna started off as an exercise...

Great place to visit...

by csimpler , Jun 21 '02
Pros: Great museums, plenty of gelato.
Cons: Significant travel time from core European countries. Smokey cafes.
Vienna is described in many travel books as 'the Easternmost of the Western European countries...' I think this is actually a pretty fair description. My wife and I spent three nights there, toured several museums, and enjoying local restaurants.

Vienna: A Place that's what you make of it.

by wiffleman19 , Apr 25 '02
Pros: Upscale/civilized, Viennese Coffee and desserts, classical music.
Cons: expensive, very cold in the winter
As a student, Vienna is definitely a place that one must watch his wallet. Thankfully, there were numerous ways of keeping expenditures somewhat reasonable. As I said earlier, Vienna is a place that can go either way for the typical American student...

Not entirely unworthy of a visit

by verbatima , Jan 30 '02
Pros: Very clean
Cons: Too many to list here: see review
I lived in Vienna for a month when I was 13. I thought it was boring and provincial. I revisited twelve years later with an open mind -- and I was disappointed again.

Looking at Vienna today, it was difficult to imagine the hustle-and-bustle...

Pros: Scale, Pace, Transportation, Art, Architecture, Cleanliness, Desserts
Cons: Not the most cosmopolitan of major European capitals (people-wise), Food (for some)
