Pros: Architecture, easy to reach, legends, vistas Cons: None
I was always very much interested in the religious architecture and used to compare styles, details, even atmosphere inside various churches and cathedrals. So the topic seemed a fantastic one.
London can boast many religious buildings, there are...
Pros: All that history--some of it under your feet Cons: Can get very crowded and hot in summer
If it's Kings and Queens you want, you must go to Westminster Abbey. Of all the places in England YentaKvetch has been, it is one of the places where you feel the closest to all that tradition. After all, it is in the Abbey that monarchs are crowned and...
Walking into Westminster Abbey is like stepping into a time machine. Within these vaulted walls are roughly a thousand years of British history. Even as you approach the outside of the building, you feel a sense of awe and amazement that continually...
Pros: Adventuring to the Land of Enchantment and Cathedrals Cons: Budgeting to embrace yourself with treats!
Greetings...There are so many wonderful places and people to meet in London and her surrounding towns. If you are unable to stay with friends in the U.K., I would encourage you to research a "London Break-Away" special.
Sir Christopher Wren's cathedral is quite a work of art and a sight to see. I went there for a couple reasons, one of which one of my relatives is buried there (Arthur, Duke of Wellington), my "great" something-or-other, or so my aunt says....
Pros: The most beautiful church in England Cons: Lacks the antiquity of other famous English churches.
St. Pauls Cathedral is one of the jewels in the crown of British heritage sites. Although it is not as old as other cathedrals like Westiminster, Winchester and Salisbury, it stands out as a magnificent domed design by famous architect Sir Christopher...
having such tremendous respect and a strong belief in the Christian faith, my visit to Westminster Abbey is one of my most valuable memories.
i attended on may 7, 1995, Third Sunday after Easter.
Pros: Historical, educational Cons: Heritage sites only open until 5-6 p.m. usually
If you really want to experience larger-than-life artwork, whether it's stained glass or beautifully carved monuments, count on spending the entire day at Westminster. Get there for opening, there will still be a line-up, but you can get ahead of most...
No trip to London, or Europe for that matter, is complete without a visit to Westminster Abbey. I have visited the Abbey--the official Church of the Royal family, wherein coronations, royal weddings, funerals, etc. have been held for centuries--four...
Pros: Jaw Dropping Cons: Large groups of people, sometimes distracting
Absolutely awe-inspiring is all I can ever utter when someone asks me about Westminster Abbey. You may run into large crowds, but the contents of Westminster Abbey are so incredible, you instantly focus on the grandeur around you. Upon entering, your...
I went on a trip to England this past August, not knowing what to expect. It was a wonderful trip full of history. I even took a picture of the queen! One of the best experiences was going to St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. It is both scary...
Pros: Beautiful Designs Cons: none at all possilby conceivable
I have only traveled to England once in my life, and when I arrived I immediately wanted to travel to the other cities. I was astounded by the vastness of the several churches. The old architecture and design inspired me to persue a study in the field...
London is an amazing place to visit with a ton of sights to see but it Westminster Abbey is a place that is a lot of hype. The church is a beautiful sight with high ceilings, arches and stained glass. The coffins and plaques for all of the important...
Outrageous Entrance Fees for Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's by markdirect ,Aug 13 '07
Pros: Westminster's Poet's Corner and St. Pauls' tombs of Nelson, Wellington, and Wren. Cons: Price gouging on admission fees.
Just returned from London, one of my favorite cities. I have travelled to London many times, but was shocked at the entry fees that churches such as Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's now charge tourists. For two adults and two children, the cost of entry at St. Paul's is US$45.00 (GBP 22.50) and at Westminster US $56.00 (GBP $28.00). I certainly don't mind contributing something to maintain these world landmarks but felt ripped off paying Disneyland level prices. It seems that these national heritage monuments are now depending on foreign tourists to keep themselves solvent. There is just something unsavory about a church, any church, charging admission fees at this level.
