Pros: A truly great value for the money with great skiing Cons: Getting there
We were part of a larger group - 28 folks to be exact! The ski area we went to is in the Italian Alps in the midst of the Dolomites, a kind of rock/mountain formations that are really striking and beautiful. The rock is soft sedimentary and coral rock...
Pros: Excellent Views, great value, hotels, Skiing, sites Cons: Not much English!
We just returned from a great trip to Italy, including 5 days of skiing in the Dolomites. For those new to Italy, the Dolomites are large range of mountains with absolutely breathtaking views.
Pros: Great mountains, views, bars and food. Cons: Snow can be spotty if no big storms recently.
I just returned from a week skiing adventure with our ski club to the tiny city of Val Gardena in the Dolomites of Italy. We flew from Newark, NJ to Frankfurt, Germany. Changed planes to Venice, Italy and then boarded a bus for the two hour drive up ...
Pros: Stunning mountain scenery, a different side of Italy, great driving Cons: Not even one!!!!
As part of a month-long, 6,000km driving adventure through 6 countries in Europe, I had the pleasure of spending 2 days in the Dolomite Mountains. Getting there is simple. I drove north from Venice and spent the night just south of Cortina. The next day ...
They say: Biggest ski area in the world by novapet ,May 10 '05
Pros: Everything: skiing, view, hotel, you name it Cons: difficult to reach and not much reading material about the dolomites
I thought it was impossible to find the biggest ski area in the world in Italy!! Who thinks of Italy as a ski destination?? It was simply amazing, over 400 chairlifts and "gondolas" (cable cars) and the best skiing ever. On each slope you find a restaurant with great food. Our favourite was Scotoni on the Lagazoi mountain, where Cliffhanger was filmed, (I thought it was filmed in the Rockies) and the descent from that mountain had incredible views. We stayed in San Cassiano a small village of 700 inhabitants in a small boutique hotel, the Rosa Alpina. They also have one of the best restaurants in Italy. The best was the food in the area, literally within 10 minutes drive there were three restaurants with a Michelin Star.
