Pros: Place is beautiful by night Cons: Expensive... and buildings are a little worn down
Growing up, almost everyone hears about the city of Venice... wonderfully romantic, very beautiful. Although as in most places I've travelled, the dream doesn't completely match reality, but by night, this place does come close.
Pros: A beautiful city with a rich history Cons: Touristy, hot, expensive

Pros: Churches, canals, palaces... everything Cons: American tourists

The Atmosphere of Venice
In Venice, you always feel like you're in a movie, or a dream. Everything seems too unreal, the gondolas, the outdoor restaurants, or the water filled streets. That is probably one of the reasons why Venice is my favourite...
Pros: Its a quaint, romantic and unique city. Cons: Street peddlers everywhere

Pros: Beauty of architecture, marvel of engineering Cons: price are highway robbery
Venice is truly enchanting. It is set on 119 small islands and has been called the "Queen of the Adriatic." The only city that brags that it

Pros: unusual and beautiful city Cons: easy to get lost, canal water is disgusting!

Pros: Beautiful city, friendliest of people, very unique place Cons: The calling card incident was not the highlight of the trip
Venice was the last stop on our week long vacation in Italy, and we really didn't know what to expect. That was apparent when we discovered our driving directions didn't say how to get to our hotel in "downtown" Venice. No problem, we'd just...
Pros: a truly unique city Cons: Expensive and lousy food, tourist traps
If you've heard of Europe, you've probably heard of Venice. Everyone seems to have their own opinion about the place, but it's hard to get sensible advice on how to plan a trip there. First of all, many people probably read these opinions to help...
Pros: architectural grandness and charm Cons: the smell, the crowds, and the pigeons.
Venice is an amazing town and I only wish I would have been able to see it fifty years ago. Unfortunately I didn't so what I got to see was a beautiful city that was overcrowded, overpriced, and smellier than any other place that I have ever been (that...
Pros: Beautiful as all get-out Cons: Tourist per square foot quota too high. Expensive
When Venice was built, the Venetians had a sneaky plan to deter enemies. They made their streets such an insane maze that only a born and bred Venetian could find the way. These days it serves to fascinate and/or frighten the droves of tourists. As the...

Pros: endlessly charming and unlike anyplace on earth Cons: expensive; not for anyone counting on wheels

Pros: Beautiful architecture, peaceful back streets Cons: You can get ripped off, only one public toilet, so you have to use the ones in the cafes.

Pros: Being able to say that I've been on the world famous canals. Cons: Once you've looked at the scenery, there's not much else to do.
Drifting down the canal under the moonlight with the one you love - the gondola driver singing Italian love songs to you - peaceful, romantic tranquility. Only one problem... that only happens in the movies.
Pros: Interesting architecture and history--read about it first Cons: Overpriced, overcrowded, depressing
I went to Venice in early April. I had wanted to see what is considered by some to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and certainly one of the most recognizable.
I found myself disappointed. Coming off the train, you are...
Pros: Gondola rides and museums galore Cons: Didn't like our hotel too much, but city was fantastic

Pros: You get lots of exercise when you walk, it's the most romantic city. Cons: It's hard to find the signs sometimes.
To know the difference, streets are called, "Cali" and squares are known as "Campo" in the pedestrian only, multi-bridged, boat-dominated Venice. Signs, on the side corners of buildings, point out the main directions. They will say,...
Pros: tradition Cons: overcrowded for the Carnival and "dead" atmosphere for New Year's Eve
I’ve been to Venice two times, once for the Carnival in February 2000. and now to celebrate the New Millenium. People say that if you have good company, you will have great time wherever you go, and that is true. Both of these my two Venice experiences I...
Pros: good food, compact city, not hard to get around Cons: water taxis were fairly expensive and ferries were crowded
Venice is a truly stange and fantastic city. For one, it is an island city. This is not so strange, in and of itself. However, it is built on over 100 islands. To my knowledge, this is fairly unique :).
Cars, from what I could tell, are...
Pros: Fairytale city, unique, historic, atmospheric, fantastic Cons: Very expensive accommodation
My wife and I managed to escape to Italy for 7 days, 3 of which we spent in Venice (Sept 2002). My expectations were mixed having read many reviews on Epinions and Fodors, but I must say there is no place on earth like Venice. It is a city of palaces,...
Pros: A novelty, nice piazzas, glass factories worth seeing Cons: HOT, dirty, bad food, rude people

Pros: the pasta Cons: dirty, slummy, crowded, the pidgeons
Granted, it's been over 10 years since I went to Venice, but...I'll share what I experienced. We took a water taxi to get there. The first thing I noticed was how FILTHY dirty the water was and all the slums along either side of the water. I was really...

Pros: Beautiful City, Great Food Cons: Buildings a little dirty from pollution
The city of romance is remarkable to not only lovers. A city built on water, from the motoscafo (airport shuttle boat) to Piazza San Marco, about an hours ride, one is instantly overcome with awe. The city is quiet, other than the hustle and bustle of...
Pros: Great, if you like being on the water. Cons: Not so good if you get seasick.

Pros: The best I can say is that there IS a baggage claim. Cons: Untrustworthy

Pros: Many choices. Cons: Some can be very expensive!

Pros: Sexiest city in the world - unbelievably beautiful. Cons: High prices.
Lots of pickpocketers.
Very hot and crowded with tourists in summer.
I was floored by the experience of Venice from the moment I got out of the train station, and I've been to many lovely European towns and cities. Venice is stunningly beautiful - much more romantic than Paris, that city of dog doo-doo.
Fairy Tale with a few glitches by emle1183 ,Jul 26 '05
Pros: Picturesque! Cons: A little dirty and very confusing
Venice was picturesque in every way I had imagined it to be. It was the very fantasy land I grew up dreaming to go to. The canals, the bridges, the gondolas. They were all so romantic and exciting. One thing that kinda caught me off guard was the cleanliness. As far as I understand, the canal are also the sewage drains, which as you could imagine do not leave the city smelling as beautiful as it looks. It is also very confusing and incredibly easy to get lost. With narrow walkways and tall buildings, you could be wandering through the immense maze for hours without a clue of where you are. Bring a friend, and it may help to know the language!
Avoid Crowds and Visit In March by jeanettr ,Mar 16 '07
Pros: Very few tourists in March so it was easy to get around and little crowds. Cons: The presence of gypsies who pick pocket tourists.
Venice is beautiful in that it is on the water, there are historical sites to visit and plenty of shopping. I enjoyed trying the gelato. I liked the gondola ride. The red wine there is excellent and isn't to dry. If you are a collector of art, artists paint and sell their work in the streets or in the squares for good prices. I had a difficult time learning and remembering to speak Italian, but knew a little Spanish. Many Italians also speak Spanish so I was able to still get around. I was taken out on the town by a couple of Italians I met at a restaurant. They were warm and friendly. The only thing to watch for it is high tourist areas, there are gypsies who will try to pick pocket tourists wallets. So make sure you keep your wallet in a place they can't get to and don't set your purse down anywhere.
