Pros: Old buildings include castle and palace and other wonderlands. Cons: Bus prices are high and so is the amount of miles you must hike.
Luckily, I have had the chance to visit Sintra in Portugal several times (4). Three of those times, I visited the Palace and the 4th time I visited the Castle, or rather the many rocks piled on top of one another.
Pros: The best part of Portugal. Beautiful palaces and ruins. Cons: The Palacio Nacional in Queluz is difficult to find on foot.
Queluz and Sintra is a most worthwhile day trip from Lisbon. Getting there is very easy: Trains leave every 15-30 minutes from the Rossio station, and are cheap.
