San Pedro De Atacama Chile. The Dusty tourist focus for region I&II El-Taito Geysers

by travelgall Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Dec 19 '05
Pros: Beautiful natural phenomena, well oiled tourist facilities
Cons: It's a desert! Nothing much to do once you've seen the main sights.
On the Gringo trail, San Pedro De Atacama is the town you are most likely to stay in if you head for the rugged, hot and uncomfortable region I or II if you’re a tourist rather than a copper miner. It is the focus for the outstanding El Taito ...

Questions of Chile

by Urbanist , Jan 17 '04
Pros: almost military EFFICIENCY
Cons: almost MILITARY efficiency
Have you ever gone somewhere, come back, and found that you have no opinion of it, only a collection of sensations that just won't cohere? Two weeks after returning from Chile, that's what I have. The impressions that follow might be called "things ...

over the Bermuda Triangle and off to CHILE!!

by kevlog , Sep 01 '00
Pros: the people are wonderful! even the school bully became my friend
Cons: much poverty
Well, since this is the only foreign country I've had the privilege of living in for an extended period of time (although I've passed through Canada plenty of times, enjoying Tim Horton's coffee when doing so!) I may as well share my experience with...

The surreal wonder of Valle de la Luna in the Atacama Desert

by neatdesign , Feb 26 '08
Pros: Want to feel like a speck in our vast universe? Camp here overnight!
Cons: Don't hike back to San Pedro; arrange a pick-up instead!
I lived in Santiago, Chile as an expat for two years after moving there, sight unseen, one month after college graduation. I had a lot of interesting and life-changing experiences in Chile, but one experience stands out above the rest: The night I spent ...

A Village Visit in Chile May Be Just What You Need...

by profesadora , Mar 31 '05
Pros: We would return to Chile in a minute. The places and people were fascinating.
Cons: To enjoy Chile, you must be capable of relaxing and going with the flow.
INTRO In the tiny village of Olmue (about two hours by car north of the Santiago airport), there is a quiet resort called Hosteria el Copihue (at www.copihue.cl.) Its clientele is Chilean; we saw only one foreign family there during our ten days in ...

Concepcion

by Darkmistress Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Aug 02 '08
Pros: The people are friendly and the food is good.
Cons: Cold and damp, damp, damp, and hard to get around.
I came to Concepcion, Chile for a job. I was warned before I got there and immediately after I arrived that there wasn't much to do. Over time, I discovered that to be absolutely true. Concepcion is about a third of the way down Chile's long coast. ...

Not entirely what I was expecting........

by roccco , Feb 21 '03
Pros: Geological Diversity. Very friendly people. Safest country in South America.
Cons: Conservative country. High prices. Distance from USA.
After going to South Africa and Zimbabwe in March, 2002, I had to be a travel junkie and squeeze in one more trip before the year ended.

Being that I don't like cold weather, anywhere in the northern hemisphere did not warrant consideration....

Skiing in the Middle of USA's Summer

by LynnSchneider Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jul 18 '01
Pros: Snow in mid-summer!
Cons: Can be a hassle to travel there, not many direct flights.
Have you ever wanted to go skiing in the mountains of Chile in the middle of summer? Well, that's what my husband is going to do next week! It's something he has talked about for years, and now is finally doing it.

This is really a...

A few important considerations re: travel in Chile

by nitz , Dec 06 '00
Pros: nature, outdoor sports, ultra-urban Santiago with easy acces to ultra-rural
Cons: State of semi-development - somewhere between Argentina's "european" feel and Bolivia/Peru's rustic nature.
I am writing primarily because I have identified a few points in other opinions that I feel need further discussion. Having spent a number of months living and studying in Chile, I would agree with other reviewers that the distances are significant, but...

The Skinny on Chile

by ianwatt , Oct 05 '99
Pros: Great place, people, nature
Cons: gruffness of people, distances.
Chile is an amazing place of extremes in terms of places, nature and people. It is coming out from a dictatorship, indeed many people are very concerned about the future of democracy there. The people can be very reserved and mean, but also love to...

Good for sightseeing, but quite boring if looking for fun

by vinnyflfl , Mar 29 '00
Pros: beautiful country, nice sightseeing
Cons: boring if looking for nightlife
Chile is one of the most beautiful countries in South America. Its great for sightseers. The Andes mountains are much more impressive during the winter season in Chile. From Santiago ( the capital and largest city) if there during winter, the snow...

Is Chile Like Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville? Check out the many adventures

by charles Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Oct 24 '99
Pros: Strong, beautiful people, great architecture, Lots to do in the back country...Measure yourself against the Andean sites
Cons: No complaint
What is clear about most Chileans that I have met is that they know how how to have fun. Chile is not all about Pinochet and the news of his detention for the crimes he committed while in power. A few years ago, I attended an international seminar with...

Chile

by london , Sep 20 '99
Pros: Seeing the stars from mountain tops of Chile
Cons: Air flight is expensive ranging between $1000 to $2000
Chile is an amazing country. I visited Santiago, the capital, and Arica, the most northern city near the border of Peru. Santiago was very smoggy and big. A lot of culture. I traveled in August which is their winter. The weather was a little rain...
