Pros: FOOD, NIGHTLIFE, CHEAP Cons: Super touristy, COLD at night, getting approached to buy postcards/finger puppets every 2 min
Cuzco is simply, amazing. Amazing food, great nightlife and beautiful city. I did research there in Altitude Mountain Sickness for a month there and enjoyed everyday there. People spend way too little time there. I would recommend at least a week. ...
Pros: Wonderful ruins and historic buildings Cons: You won't feel safe here, dirty
We spent about 8 days total in Cusco, before and after our hike to Machu Picchu and 2 night stay in Agua Callenties. There are many beautiful ruins and sites to see in Cusco, but, the city is disgustingly filthy, you will be hounded by street beggars, ...
Pros: Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, an awesome experience. Cons: The altitude can be a problem, child beggars.

Picchu, Cusco has to be one of the most incredible cities on earth, and is overlooked at the traveller's peril. Quite rightly, the Inca Trail and the famous ...

What a memorable summer it has been! As many of you know, I've been spending these last couple of months travelling the four corners of the earth. While all my trips have been...
Pros: Elegant Architecture, Machu Picchu & the Inca Trail. Cons: The tourist is a marked money making target.
Cusco is one of South America's oldest cities with a proud and illustrious history. It is beautiful to look at with an abundance of classical buildings that are open to the public. The town sits in the shadow of the Andes mountains and their snow capped...
Pros: Beautiful architecture, elegant colonial buildings, abundant nature, flora and fauna, vibrant city Cons: Plaza's aggressive guides
Even if you were never interested in travel writing, a visit to Cuzco and a trek to Machu Picchu would inspire you to jot down a few lines expressing your joy and personal transformation. Such was my experience back in 1998 when I was...

29 March 1999, too early in the morning – Lima airport
Yet another early morning wake-up call (3.30 a.m.!) after sightseeing all day and partying all night. Remind me not to travel with a day...
Pros: charming colonial city, good archaeological sites Cons: High altitude

I tried to book Hotel Libertador through Avanti Travel, they told me it was full (because Monasterio was more expensive). Actually, it is an interesting old monastery only 2 blocks from the central...

Pros: Lots of activity Cons: People begging for money & thieves

Comments: - Do not recommend Hotel Presidente nor would I use a tour guide service. I would take taxi to Ollantambo, take train from there to Augas Calientes, get room, then go to ruins and come back for evening in Augas Calientes. I think this would be...
Pros: Inca Ruins, Architecture, Indigenous People, Scenery. Cons: High Altitude, Possible crime
We flew from Lima to Cuzco. Sit on the left side of the plane and if it is a clear day, you will be rewarded with one of the most spectacular sights five minutes prior to landing. The top of mountains jut out through the clouds. When you realize you...
Pros: High altitude pills might help to prevent the altitude sickness. Cons: Avoid eating heavy dinner and consume less alcohol that will help to prevent altitude sickness.
I travelled to Peru, stayed in Lima and Cuzco and visited Machu Pichu at the end of July 2009.The trip was organized by Gate1travel.I have wonderful memories of the trip.Cuzco is a nice little mountainous town with narrow, cobbled streets and friendly people. You feel the presence of Inca and Spanish civilizations everywhere in Cuzco. It is very enjoyable and safe to stroll these ancient streets even late in the evening. The tourist police is everywhere protecting the visitors.Andean cousin is worth trying.I loved the different kinds of soups and Peruvian national drink Pisco Sour. Drink plenty Cola tea.It tastes good and helps to prevent altitude sickness. The restaurants have live folk entertainment in the evening with the performers dancing to the tunes of Zampona, which is Peruvian folk instrument. The views from Machu Pichu are breathtaking.Peru truly is an amazing country and Gate1 is the best company to organize the trip.Their guides are very helpful and friendly.Everything seems so easy because of them, they even check in your language for you and that helps to avoid extra stress.Hotels are clean and comfortable.Prices very reasonable.I highly recommend visiting Peru or any other country with Gaste1.
