Pros: Quality artisanal works and nice people Cons: Av. Revolucion is a bit beat
Millions of gringos cross the border at Tijuana for a day of shopping, dining, drinking, or maybe just for a brief glimpse of the largest of Mexican border cities. Yet Tijuana -- with its sometimes grim, mercenary population of transients and its...

Pros: Top-notch food and more tequilas than you knew existed Cons: Be aware of the dress code
The one fundamental aspect of a restaurant that really makes it jump to the top of my list of favorites is passion. No, I'm not talking about romantic restaurants, I'm talking about restaurants having a passion for excellence -- plus a passion for...

Pros: prescription drugs; t-shirts; unique experience for sheltered Americans Cons: aggressive sales techniques
No visit to San Diego is complete without the obligatory day trip to Tijuana, the most tourist-visited city in the world.
We got a cheapish motel room in San Ysidro, California, which is basically the American version of Tijuana. A suburb...

Pros: When you get away from the horrible Americans and their disgusting behavior, it is Mexico Cons: Frat boys, bimbos, jarheads, and other American excrement polluting the town.
It was 7:30 in the morning and we were already running late. If we wanted to crack the border by 10 we would need to take our motion up to 11, pronto.

Pros: good fresh bread! bargains to be had Cons: umm...poverty.
One of the obvious temptations of being in San Diego, so close to the Mexican border, is a trip to legendary Tijuana. My brother had warned ahead of time, saying things like “don’t bother”, and “you’ll leave there depressed,” but I wanted to see it for...

Pros: Energy, cultural frisson, weirdness, and astonishment every three feet. Cons: Cons so obvious that I'll leave them to others.

Pros: Good Food And Cheap Beer. Cons: Don't forget the rain coat!

Pros: wonderful people, very cheap prescription drugs and cigarettes, and an atmosphere of fiesta all the time. Cons: Border crossings can be painful -- take care to know the rules.
Tijuana has a bad reputation. And it's not all just an urban legend. Recently, the police chief was murdered, execution-style, after hit men were paid by a deputy to knock him off. Bribes abound. It's a poor country with many desperate, destitute...

Non-stop fun, fun, fun

Pros: Rosarito Beach Hotel - $78.00 a night for 3 which includes 3 dinners, and margaritas. Cons: The free drinks at the strip club end up costing a lot of money.
Just got back from a 4 day trip to Tijuana and Rosarito Beach. Went horseback riding at sunset on the beach, 4 wheeling, caught over 200 fish, dancing, bought some art, a leather jacket, had 3 nights in a 5-star hotel for 3 people, 30 beers, 30 margaritas, and 10 meals for 3. The total cost was just under $700. There is no place else that you can live so well for so little.

Tijuana and Rosarito
by kmdrizzle ,Jul 22 '05
Pros: Cheap food, cheap alcohol, fun clubs, cheap STUFF Cons: LA POLICIA, pressuring sales people, and poverty filled areas
I spent four days in Mexico, two days in Tijuana and 2 days in Rosarito. I had an excellent time! Everything can be bargained in Mexico, the sellers all start at 20 bucks as a base price but you can bargain it down all the way to 8 dollars if you are a great talker. Key is... be persistent with what you want to pay and if you dont hear the price you want, slowly walk away and they will call you back 9 times out of 10 with your price. The food is great, and the alcohol is cheap. Try to stay away from La Policia (the police) because they will find any thing to pick on you. My buddy accidently dropped his coke and this officer walked up to us and said all types of crap talking about we shouldnt litter, and if i wasnt there to save my buddies ass, he would have for sure had to bust out some bribe money! Partying in TJ and in Rosarito can be the time of your life, just as long as you act cool, calm, and collected.

Tijuana! Close to USA, but totally different experience
by emle1183 ,Jul 26 '05
Pros: Wonderful experience, new culture, kind people Cons: can be a little wild at night, just be cautious
If you are looking to dive into another culture, but are not ready to travel far, then Tijuana is a good choice. There are many reasons to take a trip to Tijuana. Personally I was there on a mission trip with a group of college students. We stayed at an orphanage just outside of the city and worked at a nearby church. We spent one night in the city going to clubs and getting a feel for the culture. People are so welcoming as long as you are not an obnoxious American thinking that you are better than them. Many seem nice because they want you to spend money in their stores, but most are genuinely good people. They were so helpful and patient! It is such a different way of life, but they are happy and proud people. I think that they know more about the meaning of life than many of us in the US do simply because they cherish relationships so much more. The things we take for granted are things that they see as blessings. My experience really opened up my eyes and changed my life.

Christmas Gifts at El Dorado Gifts
by ncdavies ,Mar 21 '05
Pros: Honesty, interesting specialty gift areas, speak English Cons: They don't carry certain types of gifts but can get them from other stores
El Dorado is located in Tijuana, Mexico at 1332 Revolution Avenue (Avenida Revolución #1332); on the east side of Revolution Avenue about 5 stores north of the intersection of 7th Street (calle Hidalgo, calle 7ma), looking north toward the tall arch.
I just bought some great Holiday gifts for my family: a light tan leather business card wallet, a brown leather vest for my son, a fleece vest for my grandson, serapes for my daughter & daughter-in-law; all of which cost less than $60. In the states, it would have been hard to touch for under $200.
I have been there several times and they sport a variety of tourist gifts. The owner also does jewelry repair on-the-spot.
Everyone in the store speaks English very well.
