Pros: Easy to travel by rental car, taxi or bus. Fine beaches. Many speak English. Cons: Except for the beauty of the beaches the area is flat with just scrub brush.
My wife, family and I have been fortunate enough to visit the Yucatan Coast a number of times staying in resorts, being off on our own traveling from place to place in a rented car, and also stopping in on port of call destinations via a cruise ship. ...

Pros: Beautiful, travel-poster beaches, lots of secluded tourist-free places Cons: Very hot and humid in the summer, swarms of mosquitoes and fleas
WARNING! This is a VERY long review. I tried to cut it in half and post it as Part 1 and Part 2, but the EP system wouldn't let me. So I've highlighted each topic so you can pick and choose what you want to read.

Pros: Clean quiet beaches, totally free of commercialism Cons: Very remote
Really great getaways always have one thing in common -- seclusion. Being totally out of touch with anyone and everyone. No phones. No television. No radio. Nobody bothering you about anything. Now THAT'S a vacation! And that's just ...

Pros: Small, great food, great location Cons: Long ride from Cancun
We just got back from a wonderful week at the Sunscape Tulum Resort. We wanted to share with others our views on this terrific hotel. The Sunscape Tulum is located approximately 100 KM from Cancun and takes about 1.25 hours to and from the ...

Pros: See review - Cons: Not for families with children
Looking for that special tropical destination for just the two of you. This is it!! My previous Yucatan peninsula visits had been confined to Cancun proper and while those were thoroughly enjoyable, when it came time to choose the perfect spot to ...

Pros: North America's best Sportfishing location. Cons: I always run out of time before I run out of money.
Years ago I worked for one of the ten largest banks in the United States. As a corporate officer, one of my responsibilities or duties if you prefer, was client entertainment. I know what you thinking, its a dirty job but somebody has to do it. Since ...

Pros: A perfect all-inclusive with great food, on a beautiful beach Cons: Secluded, far from the "action" of Cancun or Playa del Carmen.
This brand new resort, opened in December 2001, is about a half hour south of the Cancun airport, in Puerto Morelos. Our visit there in January 2002 was a complete pleasure. The service, the facility, and the food were all top notch. Indeed, in our 20...

Pros: Phenomenal snorkeling, plentiful wildlife, stunning natural beauty Cons: Can be crowded
On my family's recent trip to the Mayan Riviera (about 50 miles south of Cancun, in the Yucatan Peninsula) we decided to visit the ruins at Tulum. On our way back, we noticed a nature reserve called "Xel-ha". The weather was hot, the kids were droopy,...

Pros: Incredible ruins overlooking the Caribbean, relaxing, picturesque lagoons at Xel-Ha Cons: The snorkeling is not the best on the Yucatan at Xel-Ha
It is surprising that only 600 Mayans chose to live in such a beautiful place. The Castillo, or castle, of Tulum stands tall on a 40 foot cliff overlooking the clear Caribbean. Below this temple, which was also used as a fortress, tourists can...

Pros: Great beaches, great snorkeling, nice weather Cons: Cancun can be a bit crowded
Our more than 8000 km trip started on the 13th of March 2000. We bought the trip through a company called Apollo here in Norway. It was sort of a package deal where we got the flight and the hotels arranged. First we had to go to Oslo and then we had to...

Pros: Beautiful scenery along the water, Ruins of Tulum Cons: Poor snorkelling, dirty bus, bad equipment
If you care to leave the beaches of Cancun, take a day trip to Tulum and Xel-Ha. We took a tour that was included in a paid-for company vacation. The bus that took us to Tulum was a very old, rather dirty bus. But it did have air conditioning. We passed...
