Great place for a family vacation

by pehr , Sep 28 '07
Pros: Weather, weather, weather - particularly in September
Cons: A little pricey, the wine tasting is not great
I went with my family to Santa Barbara in early September for a week's vacation. We rented a large house for 10 people (two families of 4 + 2 grandmothers) in the "Riviera" area of town, which overlooked the ocean. We had a fabulous time - here are ...

Great for mini vacation

by lutefiskhater , Aug 27 '06
Pros: Perfect weather, no car needed, lots of charm and history
Cons: Expensive and lots of homeless (occasionally verbally abusive to tourists)
The wife and I love to visit SB one or twice a year. We often go there for a 4-5 day long weekend. Cars are not needed, and actually a burden, as parking is nearly impossible. Everything you need or want is within walking distance or by the 25 cent ...

Santa Barbara: Go there, do this!

by ursula_b , Jul 29 '06
Pros: Many parks, beautiful location, local wine region
Cons: None
This review reflects a recent 6 day trip I took to Santa Barbara with my husband and toddler. Many of these stops are things we would have done in our carefree childless days. We like to walk as much as possible and eat local foods when we travel. ...

by fivevws , Nov 16 '05
Pros: Live the life of the rich and famous.
Cons: Can be expensive. Lotsa LA people on the weekends.
OK - the epinion police set me straight, this is NOT a review, you check it out , go eat and have you own opinion. I grew up in SB (1969-1987) and spent the past summer (2005) there and these are my favorites. I have eaten at all. Norton's Pastrami ...

Can't miss spots from a former native

by possumspice , Oct 22 '04
Pros: Beautiful, great weather, relaxing, friendly people, good food.
Cons: Lodging is expensive, not many cultural activities.
Having lived in both L.A. and S.F., I am what you might call a bit of a city girl. However, when my last job took me to Santa Barbara, I had the chance to discover the joys of a more laid-back lifestyle. Santa Barbara is a ridiculously picturesque ...

When in Santa Barbara, do what the locals do

by doglover , Sep 27 '04
Pros: wonderful climate, beautiful and peaceful community
Cons: a little pricey
I had the occasion to travel down to Santa Barbara for the first time this last Memorial Day weekend. What can I say? I have lived in California for most of my life but since I have been fortunate enough to live in both the San Diego and San Francisco ...

A nice change of pace from busy L.A.

by atrue , Jul 21 '01
Pros: laid back atmosphere, small yet plenty to do, beautiful scenery, terrific weather
Cons: a bit pricey
Just returned from our first trip to Santa Barbara. After spending 3 days in LA, fighting traffic and becoming totally stressed out, I could not wait to kick back and relax for a few days. When we arrived by car (a short 1hr and 30 minutes from Malibu) I...

Santa Ynez Valley

by zygoat , Jul 14 '01
Pros: Beautiful country. Well traveled, but not hugely crowded.
Cons: Might be very hot during mid-summer.
I traveled to Solvang, CA in July of 2000. Mainly I went to attend a Monty Roberts Join-Up Clinic at Flag Is Up Farms. What I didn't know is that there is a little town
out there that is somewhat of a replica of Danish culture. There are all sorts...

Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Last summer, my family and I took a road trip up the coast of California. One of our “overnight” (we ended up spending a whole week) stops was the little town of Santa Barbara. I found Paradise. Gorgeous white sandy beaches and huge, green luscious...

Pros: Great food, nice hotel.
