Pros: Navy Pier is fun, exciting, and has several delicious restaurants.
Cons: Can be expensive.
Navy Pier in Chicago began as a building project initiated in 1909. This project envisioned five piers along the waterfront, with a major pier reaching a mile and a half into Lake Michigan for recreation as well as freight and passenger shipping. ...

Ten Fun Things to Do at Chicago's Navy Pier

by chelledun chelledun is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Hotels & Travel, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Jul 02 '08
Pros: There is a lot of fun stuff here.
Cons: Can be very crowded, easy to spend a bunch of dough.
As one who likes to consider myself a Chicago “local”, one part of me thinks that Navy Pier is an overhyped, overpriced tourist trap. The other part, though, will admit that the area is worth a free trolley ride and has some downright fun ...

How I spent my birthday at Navy Pier

by Redlass Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jun 18 '01
Pros: Lots to do for all ages.
Cons: Everything costs, though usually it's reasonable.
I'd have a hard time remembering when I've had a more perfect birthday. Perhaps in 1986, but with age my memory grows fuzzy. So I'll just say that this past year was the best birthday in recent memory. Will you indulge me while I tell you about it? ...

Take Your Sweetheart Once A Year To Navy Pier.

by badbonz0007 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Mar 19 '01
Pros: Inexpensive day with your loved ones and family.
Cons: Lots of people to run you over.
My girlfriend and I attended this year's flower show. I didn't know which was more beautiful, either the pretty flower in my arm or the one's at the show. The beauty of both of these were awe inspiring. They would make you want to plant a new garden or...

A place for the whole family.

by PHOTOGIRL814 , Sep 04 '01
Pros: Something for everyone, lots of different cruises leaving from the Pier.
Cons: Crowded
Navy Pier became a sort of central location for my daughter and I on our recent trip to Chicago. I found it easy to park there and from the Pier you can catch buses, trolleys, or water taxis to popular locations around the city.

Navy Pier...

Navy Pier - Fun for everyone!

by GOkinaka Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Feb 17 '02
Pros: Great for the whole family!
Cons: Parking fees are a little high, and it can get crowded.
So, you may be asking......what exactly is Navy Pier?

Well, Navy Pier is one of Chicago's historic landmarks that started way back in 1909 and was to be both a shipping and entertainment facility. It is an actual pier off of Lake Michigan,...

by blimbach Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Aug 20 '00
Pros: Lots to see and do, safe, fun, much is free
Cons: Entrance fees can add up, parking is costly
I LOVE CHICAGO. I can say that because I do not have to battle the traffic and high costs associated with living there. I live 50 miles NW of the city, so I visit Chicago because I choose to.

One destination for a day is definitely Navy...

Chasing Toddlers Through "Their" Museum

by education1 , Jun 12 '01
Pros: The Children's Museum at Navy Pier is a wonderful experience for children.
Cons: It's a little confusing if you haven't been there before.
My son and daughter-in-law have a family membership for the Children's Museum at Navy Pier which admits two adults and two children for a year. When we the grandparents, our son and his 19 month old boys entered the gift shop of the Children's Museum, it...

Culture AND Kitsch

by telefrog , Mar 15 '01
Pros: Great for a family outing, or for a more sophisticated evening out for adults.
Cons: Usually crowded, parking expensive and virtually nonexistent during peak times.
Navy Pier has a long and mostly rocky history. Originally intended for heavy cargo shipping, it failed in that venture and eventually was taken over by the US Navy for use as a training area (G. Bush Sr. trained there, and local divers like to visit the...

Pros: Interesting things to do and see, esp. for families
Cons: A bit dull on return trips
Everyone I talk to seems to love Navy Pier, but I'm still not completely sold. It's a good place to go once, but not repeatedly. Some of the interesting attractions on Navy Pier that may interest you:

Cheap fun for everyone

by Chi106 , Feb 04 '00
Pros: Something for everyone

This is a good destination for first time visitors and can be cheap fun for locals. Also not a bad place to park about $20 for most of the day. From here you can walk, take the bus or the free trolly to a number of other destinations including Michigan...

Navy Pier a work in progress

by WBDBaj , Jan 13 '00
Pros: centrally located for all ages
Cons: ?
Navy Pier is visible from anywhere along South Michigan Avenue or Lake Shore Drive (skyscrapers do get in the way a bit, I guess), by looking at the ferris wheel on the water. With a new Shakespearian theater, small shops and vendors, a Children's ...
