Pros: too many to enumerate! Cons: better get used to driving on hills!
I just read "butter melter's" review of Maine as a place to vacation, and as I was commenting on the opinion, I found myself just going on and on about Maine in general and Bangor, in particular. The site prompted me that my review was long...

Pros: large city with most everything you could need nearby Cons: Once leaving Bangor, you are at least an hour and a half drive from another major city
Remember the old Roger Miller tune "King of the Road"? You know..."Trailer for sale or rent, rooms to let fifty cents..." One of the lines ends up something like, "Destination Bangor, Maine."
I've actually met...

Pros: Beauty, food, fun Cons: Time to be there is too short
You may think of Maine as a cold, unfriendly, unforgiving spot on the Northeast Coast. However, none of this is true. There is a warmth to the people and if you travel in the summer, there are warm (even hot) days where you'll be happy to stick your...

Pros: Rugged beauty Cons: Can't think of any
OK, who wants to go back with me? Given that the first three visible epinions of Maine are all five stars, a traveling partner shouldn't be hard to find. If you haven't gone to Maine yet, start looking at your calendar for vacation time.
I...

Pros: Great places to eat...yummy food....unique dining experiences Cons: None
Disclaimer: Take it from me. I'm a Mainer.
The best places to eat in Maine. PAY attention:
1) Clambake in Saco. It is located off Route 1 headed toward Pine Point. It is somewhat cheaper seafood with all of the quality of the...

Pros: Fun and A day trip Cons: a little expensive
I went white water rafting two years ago on the Kennebec River in early August. I went with 6 other people, and it was about 90 a person. We went through Maine Whitewater, Inc. The trip starts in Bingiham, Me. This trip is a day trip, there are trips...

Pros: Fun and Relaxing Cons: half mile portage
This summer I went canoeing on the Saco river with some friends of mine, in early August. It was a group of 7, and cost about 30 dollars a person. It was a good time to be on the river due to it being in the 90's at the time. You start your trip out...

Pros: Unspoiled Cons: Can't get there from here, easily
Review Topic: Sights & Attractions
When the world thinks of Maine they usually think of lobster, rocky coastlines, and "ayuh". If you look deeper than mainstream images you can see much more.
Perusing...

Pros: Beautiful location, wonderful hosts, excellent accomodations Cons: A weekend isn't long enough.
Not far from Freeport, the home of L.L.Bean, and just outside of Brunswick, the home of Bowdoin College, is the town of Harpswell. We decided to make Harpswell our "center of operations" for our weekend stay in the Mid-Coast region of Maine....

Pros: Really far from anything else Cons: Really far from anything else
Castine, Maine is America the way it's supposed to be--towering elm trees, deserted waterside paths, and perfectly preserved clapboard houses surrounded by delphinium, many of which have adirondack chairs set to face the ocean. One gets the sense...

Pros: Lighthouses at night Cons: NONE
I had the pleasure of visiting Kennebunkport a few years ago. I went in mid February. Instead of snow, it was actually sunny and 60. From it's rock beaches to it's white sand beaches this itty-bitty town has lots to offer. I stayed with my father whom...

Pros: Fun, plenty to do (even for kids), best seafood ever, Cons: Can be a bit expensive with all the tours and seafood dinners.
Once a year, my wife and I get together with a group of people I grew up with and pick a place to go to for 3-5 days. This year it was Bar Harbor, Maine. Without a doubt this was one of the nicest vacations we had ever been on.
Having just...

Pros: Beautiful, plenty to do Cons: Off-season travel-some things closed
For all of you considering a trip to Maine, Bar Harbor is the place to go. It is minutes from Acadia National Park (which is beautiful). There are so many wonderful shops in town and plenty of great places to eat. You can imagine the amount of...

Pros: scenic, comfortable, great bed and breakfasts, stuff to do! Cons: winter gets a bit cold, summer gets a good deal of traffic
I have to admit i'm a little biased in my review of the kennebunks. my boyfriend lives in kennebunk, his family owns a bed and breakfast there, and i have had the privlege of being able to spend the last year seeing all of the seasons there. all of them...

Pros: great hiking and scenery Cons: Bar Harbor is touristy
Haven't been to Acadia National Park lately? It's new and improved with a series of carriage trails built by the Rockefellers which are ideal for bicycling. For those on foot there are walks (these are scenic but easy), and hikes for the more athletic....
