Pros: A wonderful pedestrian only area with a terrific night time show. Cons: Some sketchy characters outside the area.
Update: This is now the 4th year we have been here. Still the best show in town!
Three years in a row we have gone to Las Vegas and Downtown or The Fremont Experience is always on our list. This was the first year we went...

Pros: Free Elvis shows, see pictures being spray painted. Lots to see. Pedestrian only Cons: Can be difficult to park. We got lucky.
I saw the category and wondered: What the heck is Downtown Glitter Gulch??? Then I realized they must be speaking of the Old downtown Las Vegas, the place that has been renamed Downtown Glitter Gulch!
My favorite part of Las Vegas has to be...

Pros: light show, things to do Cons: no benches, offensive shirts
I agree with remnjava; I was confused on what the Downtown Glitter Gulch was, but then I realized that it was referring to Fremont Street!
Fremont Street is a part of historic downtown Las Vegas. Today, it is more...

Pros: Great atmosphere, fantastic overhead light show Cons: We only spent a few hours here
After a couple of days in this town we were ready to write Las Vegas off as some strange fantasyland until we visited Fremont Street one evening. Here at last was something I could understand! This place seemed to have the soul that was lacking from the ...

Pros: It's free Cons: Tawdry, vulgar, tacky atmosphere - not a family place
Did I leave any other adjectives out that could convey the mood or ambience of this Fremont St. experience? I stumbled onto this topic by accident and was so surprised to see so many people rate this so highly on their experience list. I'm sure they ...

Pros: Great Lights, Clean, Couldn't get enough of the lights Cons: The Show didn't last long enough.
My husband and I have been to Las Vegas many times. We normally stay at a hotel on the strip. When we first started going to Las Vegas, we always took a trip downtown, mostly just to visit the Casinos. We were there in the early 90's and decided then...

Pros: It's old school Vegas, and the big screen show is fun. Cons: This is the seedy, tacky side of town, and I didn't want to stay long.
I wanted to see "Old Las Vegas", you know, the place with the Cowboy waving his hand, and the Cowgirl kicking her legs up in bright neon. It is NOT along the famous (or infamous) STRIP, it is in a section now called old Las Vegas, Freemont Street ...

Pros: It's just wonderful!! Like a smaller version of the Strip, but with more tranquility, peace! Cons: Parking, parking meters & an army of ticket-happy meter maids on watch.
WHY FREMONT STREET? Fremont Street, also very notoriously known as Downtown Glitter Gulch, has pretty much the charm, magic, glitter & elegance that you'd experience on the Strip! Next to the Strip, I like this area also! I believe that ...

Pros: A weird and interesting place that is unlike any other I have visited Cons: ex-cons, desperation, public drunkenness and the stench of sin-it's all part of the fun
That line from "Ooh Las Vegas" by Gram Parsons is a great place to start. In a lot of ways Las Vegas is not a place for a guy like me: I'm not wealthy, I don't gamble (I spent about 20 bucks total and won most of it back while playing bingo and sipping...

Pros: Great mix of people, sights, smells and experiences Cons: Less refined, gritty crowd at times.
I consider myself to be somewhat experienced in what Las Vegas can offer. Due to work and pleasure trips, I have visited Vegas about 20 times in the past 9 years. Although a fair amount of that time was consumed by work, each trip has included some...

Pros: fun, casual, one-of-a-kind Cons: Watch your wallet!
If you want to experience what Las Vegas was like in the beginning, you don't want to miss Downtown Vegas. You will exchange the beautiful architecture, million dollar views and posh strip life for the glitzy, greedy glitter gulch.
Sites...

Pros: LEAST COSTLY ROOM RATES/BETTER WINNING ODDS. Cons: ROOMS NEED UPGRADING/NO BIG ENTERTAINMENT SHOWS
When I hit age 21 my older sister introduced me to Downtown Las Vegas where it all began. I can still remember the day I was mesmerized by the neon lights of the Golden Nugget, Binion's Horseshoe, Four Queens and Fitzgerald's. I wondered which gangster...
