If you live on the East Coast and you don't want to deal with beach traffic, but you still want relax near a body of water for any type of vacation, then I have to recommend the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York. And of those numerous bodies of water I...

Pros: A friendly city Cons: Snow and a few bad neighborhoods
I'm biased: I grew up in Buffalo, NY. I also hate snow, so for 5-6 months out of the year I'd be miserable. That didn't stop me from learning to love watching hockey and rooting for the local Sabres. But most winter sports I could leave:...

Pros: Well Maintained, easy to find, not over crowded, a good amount of things to do. Cons: The bugs ( mosquitos in particular ) can get to be a bit much by evening.
I hesitate to put this here as this is only a County Park and not a New York STATE Park, yet I feel this is somewhere that tourists and local people and those seeking a break would find more than worthwhile to check out. Therefore .. here is my review...

Pros: Every location Cons: The US side of Niagra falls is extremely boring!
Being a suburban rat myself, I get to travel to the city frequently. I guess you can say that I am lucky. All of my friends from upstate haven’t been fortunate to visit the city, are amazed at the stores, subways, buildings and the homeless people. It’s...

Pros: Has something for every walk of life Cons: Lots of pollution
As far as I’m concerned, New York is in Civil War. Its northwest and southeast regions are basically polar opposites. You go from the serene hills and valleys of the Catskills Mountains to the non-stop harassment of Manhattan. Due to these strikingly...

Pros: Interesting rock formations Cons: A little out of the way for most.
You don't have to be a geologist to like a trip to Howe's Caverns, which is a little less than an hour mostly west of Albany.
The cave was carved out by an underground river over the course of the usual thousands of years. It's 156 feet below...

Pros: Great atmosphere, unique experience, beautiful setting Cons: Lots of people trying to go in the summer, could be tough to get grandstand seats
You're at the Saratoga race track, waiting anxiously for the next race to begin. You've placed your bet, and now you're standing along the rail, or maybe sitting in your grandstand seat. The last horse finds its way into the gate, and with a bang the...

Pros: Lovely setting for the baseball fan. Cons: A little out of the way for some.
It's hard to think of a better weekend trip than to Cooperstown if you are within a reasonable drive of it -- particularly from about April to October. Of course, if you are a baseball fan, you've probably been there already.
Cooperstown is a...
