Audubon Zoo Only Gets Better As Time Goes By

by Birdfeather Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Feb 25 '02
Pros: All natural habitats, lots of animals, and renovations!
Cons: Summer heat!
The Audubon Zoo was always my favorite zoo to visit as a child. We lived approximately 70 miles from New Orleans but always made sure we visited the zoo each summer. This was quite an event since all the cousins came along!

The...

Zooropa

by disinclined Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 03 '03
Pros: Even better than the real thing.
Cons: Who's gonna ride your wild horses?
Whenever I’m putting together a vacation, my itinerary – for there is an itinerary, and a comprehensive one, too – includes must-do activities that I really want to check out, plus some alternates or fill-ins, in case plans go awry or we have ...

The Audobon Zoo - #1 of family friendly New Orleans

by wego2wdw , Jun 04 '00
Pros: great zoo
Cons: no major cons
Note: This is my first of five articles on great places to take your family while in New Orleans.

There's an old song in New Orleans whose lines include "Get on down to the Audubon Zoo and they all asked for you. The monkeys and the...

I Went on down to the Audubon Zoo and they all asked for YOU

by AlexisO , Oct 24 '00
Pros: Animal Friendly habitats, lots of view space
Cons: The smell naturally.
As a native New Orleanian, I just had to visit our zoo. I remember going when I was younger and not being very impressed with the sights. I was impressed with the animals of course, as most children are. But to tell you the truth, I only have vague...

Way down in the Bayou

by Guildencrantz Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jun 05 '00
Pros: Monkey Hill, Orangutans.
Cons: I wish it was open more hours each day.
Well, the Garden District of New Orleans isn't really the Bayou, but there is a section of the zoo dedicated to the Louisiana wildlife.

I must say that I love the Audubon Zoo. I have been there three times now (I didn't go my first semester...

A family vacation must

by tracim , Jun 16 '00
Pros: the best zoo I've been to, very family friendly
Cons: can be too hot to enjoy it in summer
Even though we live 3 hours away, I've been to the Audubon Zoo at least a dozen times. I never get tired of it. If your zoo experience has been mostly with smaller city zoos, you'll be amazed at the one in New Orleans.

Instead of putting the...

Best Zoo in Louisiana

by CJ71354 , Sep 23 '00
Pros: You can bring your own wagon and ice chest in to the zoo. Many people had 2 wagons 1 for kids and other for the ice chest. Cost to rent 1 of the zoos wagon is $10.00
Cons: Try not to go when it is 95 or higher outside. Most of the lions and tigers will not be as active in the heat
We choose the New Orleans zoo because of the butterfly exhibit and white alligators. They have over 1500 species. The kids had the best time playing in the water sprinklers that they have throughout the zoo. It was 108 when we went so we were pretty...

A Great Family Fun Day!!

by ritalee76 , Sep 02 '00
Pros: great zoo all around
Cons: too many gift shops, parking could be improved
The New Orleans Zoo is located in uptown New Orleans right by the Garden District. Just getting there is a beautiful drive. Its only a preview of whats to come. Once inside you'll see the usual zoo animals but in a wonderful park like setting.

To my days off!

by Maja , May 29 '00
Pros: lots of exhibits, animals, activities, and fun
Cons: There's so much to do and so little time!
I live right across from the zoo at Tulane University and about twice a year we go to the zoo, whether it be with friends from home who we're showing around or for fun on our own. Audubon Zoo is huge, its right on the Mississippi and right across from...

What a great zoo!

by mrkleinf , Oct 24 '00
Pros: Unique Setting, Good Size
Cons: Location - far from the French Quarter
The following is an excerpt from my travel log to New Orleans in 1998. Overall it was one of the best zoos I've been to.

The zoo was great! The design took advantage of the existing trees and water to make very...

Great Natural Enviroments

by tcast13233 , Dec 15 '00
Pros: wonderful for children and adults
Cons: none
My husband and I took our two children to Audubon Zoological Gardens in New Orleans so they could experience the joy of seeing other animals other than the few wildlife that live around our home. We went during the month of July and it was very hot but...

My first visit to a zoo

by shirlena , Sep 20 '00
Pros: Overall good place
Cons: going late evening you don't see a lot of the animals
At age 27 this was my first zoo experience and on the whole I enjoyed it. With out a doubt I was the only redneck there. How do I know that you ask? Well I had worn new shoes and it hurt so bad I had to take them off. I was the ONLY bare footed person...

The Best Zoo I have been to yet

by JessyBird03 , Sep 28 '00
Pros: AWESOME zoo! Lots of animals, roman candy, elephant rides
Cons: weather can sometimes be too hot a humid to go
The Audobon Zoo holds a special place in my heart. I used to go there every weekend when I was a child with my father. Every Saturday. This was back in the day when playgrounds still had "character" and were made of wood, not plastic....

The one kid friendly thing in the Big Easy

by BETSYRBERG , Nov 13 '00
Pros: Beautiful setting great animals
Cons: it can get very hot in the summer
I grew up in New Orleans and have been to this zoo a lot. When friends ask what the can do with the kids in New Orleans I always say take the streetcar to the zoo and spend the day. The swamp area is a microcosim of Cajun life and the food served there...

by jezzie1 , Aug 12 '08
Pros: Beautiful zoo, lots of shade, good price.
Cons: A little hard to find.
I lived in New Orleans for 10 years, and moved back to Maine in 2001. I go back to visit yearly, and was so pleased to see that the Audubon Zoo survived hurricane Katrina. It is one of the best zoos I've ever visited. It is well laid out, has lots of ...
