Pros: Reasonably priced; easy to navigate; interesting exhibits and add-on experiences.
Cons: A few dated exhibits; didn't see many African animals.

Summary: I love a small but well-designed zoo, and the John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids, Michigan is exactly that. While older reviews for this facility are mostly subpar, it’s clear a lot of work has been putting into sprucing up the place in recent ... read more

Pros: Great fun, Great Animals, lots of things to see, fun things for kids to do.
Cons: Gift shop & food shops are a little pricey. weekends are packed!

Summary: John Ball Zoo has gone through quite a bit of changes. They have recently added quite a few new animals to their collection. The Zoo has over 1100 animals representing the wilds of Africa, Asia, South America, Australia and the United States. They ... read more

Pros: Small, easy to see in a few hours, informed workers
Cons: Not many animals, boring presentation

Summary: We've been to all the zoos in our area, and this is the only one we have been disappointed in. It was small, there weren't many animals, and it took us less time to see the zoo than it took us to drive there. I'd never take another trip just to go to ... read more

    Pros: Occasional free days.
    Free parking.
    Picnic area.
Cons: Small selection of animals and aquatic life.
No lions, tigers, or bears... OH MY!

Summary: I grew up in Ohio and the Columbus Zoo was my "hometown" zoo. I guess that is what I rate all other zoos against. I mean, the Columbus Zoo has Jack Hanna! Anyway, I have also lived in San Diego and now Grand Rapids, MI. Everyone rants about San Diego so ... read more

    Pros: Previously beautiful park land
    Cons: Wretchedly inadequate facilities

Summary: John Ball Zoo is a woefully inadequate facility that was first developed prior to the consideration of the animal’s dignity. I welled up with tears when I saw the pens for the big cats. Prisoners are treated with more respect than the animals of this ... read more

Pros: kids love the petting zoo
    Cons: needs community involvement

Summary: Every year our family goes to Michigan to visit family and a staple of that visit is to go to John Ball. Unfortunately, only the kids really enjoy this. This zoo has potential but the citizens around the zoo are fighting to prevent the zoo from ... read more

  • If you're in the area, it's a nice little zoo.

Pros: It's nice for kids. It's do-able in a couple hours.
Cons: Need more animals & more space...entrance is lack-luster.

Summary: Yes it's little, and it should have more animals, and it's kinda old, and it's in a shady part of town...but it's a nice little zoo. A city the size of G.R. should have a better zoo, (The voters turned it down! Don't even get me started...)

Summary: I grown up going to JBZ. I'm a member, a sponsor of their wallabies and I voluteered there last summer and planto this year if I can as well. JBZ is not a large or fancy zoo, but it is great and has a loving atmosphere, in which, it would seem everyone
