Pros: The bus tour is an education and entertaining Cons: None

I am not exactly a zoo connoisseur, but I have been to a bunch of different zoos in different cities. Living in New York, I have been to the Bronx Zoo maybe 25 times in my 30 years of existence.

Pros: fun and beautiful Cons: I wish it were closer - I would go all the time
The San Diego Zoo is by far the most wonderful zoo in Southern California. I have always loved zoos and have been to many of them. The San Diego Zoo is the prettiest with its flowers and landscaping around the park. The San Diego Zoo has the happiest...
Pros: lots of animals, free October, free parking Cons: hills, lots of walking, hard to get to areas
I don't understand the fascination with this zoo. It has a lot of animals including the new Baby Panda, but to me it is not worth the money to deal with ALL the hills of this zoo. You have to be physically fit, I felt like I was mountain climbing at...
Pros: Hippos, Polar Bear, and Alaskan Brown Bear Cons: Poor exhibits, small sized animals, poor layout.
Here's the scoop from a local: the San Diego Zoo is (I hate to say) just average. It's a product of its own hype. Our zoo's slogan is, "The World Famous" San Diego. The only thing famous about our zoo is that it continues to fool people into ...
Pros: Lots of cool things to see at this zoo Cons: Lots of walking

Pros: Beautiful, great animal enclosures, good variety. Cons: Can't think of any
I was lucky enough to grow up in San Diego, and spent many happy hours at the Zoo. Since I've grown up and moved away, I've had the chance to visit some other zoos, and I have to say, San Diego's is the best, and they just keep improving it!
My family went to the zoo, late spring on a weekend. We live about an hour's drive from the zoo. It was our first time visiting so I checked out the zoo's website to get a feel of things. We were especially excited to see the Panda's. I feel I must...

Pros: A bus ride is available for a fee, for those who can not walk distances. Cons: You can not visit often enough to see it all!
Old Zoos too often seem dismal and neglectful. Their simple cages annoying the best of us who cherish our own family pets. The San Diego zoo is leaving this image far behind them.
How can we describe this zoo except as MODERN? I was struck...
Pros: Huge with lots to see and beautiful! Cons: Lots of people on the weekends.
I lived in San Diego for many years and the San Diego Zoo was one of my favorite places to visit. It's a must see if you ever are in San Diego! It's on acres and acres of land and takes a long time to walk and see everything there is to see. It's...

We went to the San Diego zoo in early June on a Monday. We were in the area for a wedding and how can you NOT go to the zoo when you are in San Diego? My 2 kids (both under 3) were absolutely in heaven. The variety of animals and attractions was so...
If you have to make a choice between the San Diego Zoo or its sister the Wildlife Park, choose the Wildlife Park. The Zoo is very nice, but if you come from any major metropolitan area chances are your zoo is just as nice. Think how much better your zoo...
Pros: Great attractions and staff makes u feel welcome Cons: Best zoo in the world, no cons
It is a treat every time I go down to San Diego California to get a chance to spend some time at the zoo. The animals come from all over the world, and the zoo does all it can to make the zoo experience seem the most entertaining. The envirements that...
Pros: Great animals Cons: Hilly, little water life
The San Diego Zoo is a great experience for anyone, including adults.
The animals are great and the diversity spectacular (although if you want much sea life, you have to go to San Diego's Sea World).
The monkeys are my favorite, and there...
Pros: We enjoyed the shows, the foliage was beautiful, and the exhibits were informative. Cons: Way too much traffic for a zoo, too expensive for a large family.
I am from the east coast and recently visited California for the first time with my family. When in San Diego, of course you need to visit the San Diego Zoo, right? I no longer think so. I could not believe the sheer number of busses they had ...
Pros: Reputation, cleanliness Cons: Price, I did not see any penguins!
I have lived in Los Angeles for over 17 years and I had never visited the much hyped about San Diego zoo. My family from San Francisco came down to LA this easter and well we decided to go to the "World Famous San Diego Zoo" it took us about 2 and a ...
Pros: A great zoo! Cons: hilly, vast...and lousy food!
Convenient to get to from downtown and outlying areas, this is a great zoo! Most animal habitats are (as near as i can tell) accurate and large...but this can give some animals a chance to hide! When they're out (and they were when we were there) the ...
I've always heard about the World Famous San Diego Zoo, and now I've finally seen it!! It's an amazing place, but may seem daunting after looking at the map. We bought a deluxe admission ticket which includes zoo entry, a guided bus tour, unlimited...
Pros: Panda exhibit, elephants, giraffes, the trolley and areal tram. Cons: too many hills, needs updating, expensive
I've heard the SD Zoo was "the" zoo and a must see while in San Diego. While it was an enjoyable day trip, I felt it didn't live up to the hype. Also, $50 a person (including the Trolly and Tram pass) to get in was quite steep in my opinion.
...
Pros: Lovely setting and landscaping. Cons: Boring and overpriced.
I wish we had gone to the Wild Animal Park instead!
There is so much hype about the pandas but they had moved them and the signs redirecting traffic were the equivalent of a paper flyer tacked to a light post. After we did FINALLY find the...
Pros: the tram service inside the park Cons: just about everything else
What is so big about the San Diego zoo. It is no different from any other except for the fact that it has 2 Panda bears. Oooohhhhhhhhh, big deal. I stood in line for about a half an hour to see them. When I finally did get to see them, there was only...
Pros: Lots of animals, good food. Cons: Nothing special or extroadinary.
I went to this zoo on a trip to San Diego with my friend. After spending the whole day there, the two of us regretted going. Its not that we dont like seeing animals, its just that this zoo didn't seem any better than the two not world famous zoos where...

Pros: Uncrowded, clean, manageable Cons: hot, bit of a drive
I recommend visiting the Wild Animal Park with small kids. We visited in August with our 5-year-old, 3-year-old, and 4-month old. We got a "stroller car" for the 3 year old, our stroller for the baby, and had a great day. It is a manageable...

Pros: Pandas and koalas were neat to see..... Cons: Not that impressed....lots of foliage and wayyyy too many hills!
Maybe it's because we live near Chicago and have a fantastic zoo (Brookfield), but I just wasn't that impressed with San Diego Zoo. The hills were exhausting and there weren't too many different animals that I hadn't seen already at our zoo back home. Plus, there was so much foliage that animals were sometimes hard to find. We did seek out the pandas and koalas, though....because we don't have them back home. I guess the bottom line is that if you don't live near a world-class zoo, you'll probably like it. But, if you have already visited large zoos frequently, it's not that big of a deal.
Pros: Magnificent grounds Cons: Disappointed in the number of animals and concerned with the size of some of enclosures.
The San Diego Zoo is full of lush tropical foliage and is well maintained. I visited the Zoo in February 2004 and they do not open all the areas during the winter months due to the cooler weather and I would recommend visiting it after April when all the animals are exhibited.
Pros: Has rare animals like the pandas, koalas, and a polar bear. Cons: Entrance fees are a bit high, unless you are able to find discount tickets.
This is a nice zoo to visit! It has a sky ride and bus tours in the zoo. Lots of animals! Lots of walking! Love the koalas, pandas, and polar bear! Very rare in other zoos. Entrance fees are a bit high unless you can get discount tickets. A nice one day trip!
