Pros: Great place for early season skiing
Cons: Very expensive, Very remote, No nightlife.
I skied at Hemsedal November 27-December 3, 2004. The resort had just opened for the season. The snow quality was good and everyone was friendly. I stayed at the Molla Sportel, which had nice cabins that were clean. However, the Molla is almost 2 km from the slopes and you will need a car to get around. The town of Hemsedal is small and quaint with limited choices for food. It is located about 4 km from the Hemsedal ski resort.
The prices of everything in Hemsedal are VERY expensive. Grocery and Restaurant prices in Gstaad, Switzerland are a deal compared to Hemsedal.
The resort is a four hour drive on a two-lane road from Oslo. Be prepared to pay several tolls along the way. Some toll stations are unmanned so make sure you have at least 80 kroner in coins before you leave.
