Pros: cheaper, great mix of terrain, closest to SF for day-trippers Cons: Located over the pass and further away from Tahoe City, windy, medium-sized mountain
Summary: I just returned from my first trip ever to Sugar Bowl and was delighted by what I found. Like many of the other reviewers wrote, Sugar Bowl is under-hyped and much less visited than the other major North Lake Tahoe resorts. In my 2 years of skiing at ... read more

Pros: Closest ski resort to the Bay Area, great service, great runs Cons: Lines can get long, Small
Summary: This is a great family place. Sugar Bowl has a great ski school for all ages. It is even better because they just put in a new Express Quad to the top of Mt. Lincoln. It has 2 terrain parks and many runs that range from easy to super hard. I have ... read more

Pros: Its closer to home but is it worth it? Cons: Too expensive, NO vertical drop
Summary: So you live in the are and you keep hearing commercials for how much closer Sugar Bowl is, and for a quick second you think that is a great idea, I can go skiing and have fun and its closer to home so I will save time as well, right? Well forget all ... read more

Pros: Close to the Bay Area, Great coverage, large mountain means small crowds Cons: slow gondola from the base
Summary: Sugar Bowl has it all for the family and the solo adventurer, from expert to beginner, and it is the closest ski/snowboard resort to the Bay Area. I fully recommend it over some of the other larger ski resorts, not only for price, but for entertainment ... read more

Pros: Tasty cocktails made from scratch Cons: Austere bar area
Summary: Some judge a ski resort by its slopes. Others by its ski instructors or high speed lifts. As a novice snowboarder who spends plenty of time on my backside (and knees, and arms, and head...), I often need a break. Accordingly, I judge a resort by the ... read more

Pros: good food Cons: to many hard runs
Summary: I just arrived home from my second trip to SugerBowl and man was I disapointed. They haven't gone out of there way at all to make this place better for the people. Also the place is covered in rocks.
I think that they should add some terrain ... read more

Pros: location (closest to SF), varied terrain, lots of snow, low-key atmosphere Cons: slow Silver Belt chair, not as much terrain as Alpine or Squaw
Summary: OVERALL
Sugar Bowl is one of my favorites in the Tahoe Area. I've been there many times over the past 20 years. The location and varied advanced and expert terrain and low-key atmosphere are big plusses, and make up for the slow lift on Mt. ... read more

Pros: Challenging runs, great for the expert Cons: Service was a joke
Summary: A note on my experience as a skier: I'm not a diehard shredder, but I'm comfortable on intermediate and most expert slopes. I've hit a few double-diamond slopes over the years and learned my limitations. I'm not the best-travelled skier in the ... read more

Pros: varied terrain, close to the highway Cons: It's a slow drive from Truckee if it is storming hard
Summary: Truly a resort with something for everyone, I think Sugar Bowl is one of the best resorts in the Tahoe area. Beginners, intermediates, experts, families, powder hounds, huckers, jibbers, backcountry riders, skiers or snowboarders, there is a lot for ... read more

Pros: Good beginner package, slopes and lifts. Easy access off I-80. Cons: Parking gets very full and rentals run out.
Summary: This past President's Day weekend I entered the world of downhill skiing for the first time. It was spur of the moment, although my girlfriend (who is a skier) has been hoping I'd try it for a while. The snow was there, the long weekend was there, and ... read more

Pros: Close to San Francisco Cons: Small and poorly designed; horrible rental process
Summary: I took a day trip to Sugar Bowl on Saturday of President's Day weekend. Although I found the skiing to be quite good (it had snowed the week before), I was disappointed by several things.
First, the Mt. Judah side of the resort has fast ... read more

Pros: Good Runs Cons: Expensive Lift tickets(except Wednesday)

Pros: Excellent conditions, amazing halfpipes, incredible runs! Cons: None
Summary: Sugar Bowl is an incredibly fun resort I recommend especially to SNOWBOARDERS! The runs aren't extremely long, but they're just long enough. This makes for more runs by the end of the day. It isn't usually very crowded, so long lift lines rarely ... read more

Pros: Mt. Judah is convenient and a delight Cons: The older section needs the promised upgrade
Summary: Some of the sweetest skiing in California is also at one of the most convenient resorts. With the addition of the Mt. Judah area Sugar Bowl leaped out of its old past with the quaint but inconvenient lodge where you hiked up to the chair lifts. Please ... read more

Pros: Close to Home Cons: Not Much Off Trail
Summary: Sugar Bowl – Sweet Rides
Sugar Bowl packs in a lot of varying terrain in a small area; the recent addition of the Mt. Judah lifts has really helped what was becoming a very congested mountain. Sugar Bowl is the perfect resort to hit for a day ... read more
