Pros: Big Mountain, "Champaign Powder", Long Runs Cons: Crowded, Expensive(but what isn't?)

Pros: Great skiing for beginners to the highly skilled. Cons: A bit challenging to actually get there. Somewhat expensive.
As novice skiers, my husband and I absolutely loved Steamboat Springs. The local people could not have been more friendly, and there was so much to do--both on and off the mountain. The appealing thing about Steamboat was that it was a great vacation for us (as a couple), but was equally family-friendly. I would go back with kids, or just with friends. Ski school is a must, in my opinion. Definitely worth every cent. We started out as level 1 and graduated to level 5--level 8 is expert. (FYI, you are supposed to tip your ski instructor. We weren't aware!) The base of the mountain got a little crowded in the afternoon, and we heard it's especially crowded over Christmas and spring break. Stemboat is famous for its "champagne powder" and it lived up to its reputation. Great skiing. Venturing into town to eat was also a delightful experience! Breakfast at The Shack was so good, I went twice in four days. But, for us, the best part had to be literally skiing off the mountain right into the bar on the slopes! Its the best thing in the world after 4 hrs of skiing.
